Chapter 4: Success and Return
'Black Widow!' Tony almost screamed in shock as he stared at the scene in front of him.
But he held back his surprise as he thought of many things.
The final battle he was expecting wasn't there; the less than 40 armed men were already taken care of and only a red-haired lady in a black outfit stood in front of him with her weapon pointing straight at him.
She was wearing a mask but Tony knew who she was but what he couldn't understand was why she was here.
'This is so not the canon I know. Well, I guess I should have thrown canon out the window the instant I saw that I was only 25 and the events of Iron Man 1 were already playing out in a much different direction.'
Just then, immediately he realised she was about to fire whatever special shield-enhanced equipment she had on her, he raised his missile and the both of them came to a standstill.
"Who are you?" They both asked at the same time
Meanwhile, Yinsen came out at this time.
Natasha looked at him briefly but focused on the armoured figure before her and asked, "Where is Tony Stark?"
"Tony Stark? He's escaped with my help. Why, are you here to save him too?"
"It's none of your business," Black Widow responded as she pressed a button on her belt.
Stark guessed that she might have called for backup.
"I might need you to come with me," Black Widow said as she got ready to attack.
*Sling!*
Stark launched the missile which prompted her to dodge even though it wasn't aimed directly at her.
*Boom!*
The missile landed on a freight container which was where all the weapons were stored in the hideout.
Tony grabbed Yinsen and immediately activated the repulsors, rocketing himself and Yinsen high up into the sky.
Black Widow stood and gazed curiously at the figure that was already far away and ran inside the cave to look for survivors while she contacted her superior to report what had just transpired.
Meanwhile after Tony had flown quite far, the armour began to lose its energy fast.
Stark looked at Yinsen beside him who was praying in a language he couldn't understand.
He wasn't anxious as he had already made preparations and activated a backup plan when he got closer to the group as a parachute was released from the armour.
*Puff!*
Ho Yinsen heard the sound and opened his eyes as he now knew why Stark adamantly convinced the group to provide him with a parachute that it was a special production.
He didn't think it'd work but apparently, their captives weren't so smart that they could figure out his intentions.
Anyway, they had confidence that Stark would not be able to escape hence they let their guard down.
*Thud*
'Crash landing averted...'
________
Unlike in the movies, the armour didn't scatter into multiple parts and was abandoned.
Tony dismantled it into different parts and used the parachute to act like a bag and wrapped up the parts as he dragged it along the desert hoping to see a search team of the army.
*Tatatatata*
"Speak of the devil."
Two helicopters appeared above and he and Yinsen had to shout in an attempt to draw their attention, to which they succeeded.
-----------
Approximately 27 hours later Stark was resting in his mansion on the seaside of Malibu, California.
*Beep!*
A beep was heard as Tony opened his eyes and heard the report of J.A.R.V.I.S and approved.
The door slid open as a beautiful red-haired lady with pale skin walked in wearing a professional all-black business attire, her trousers particularly accentuated her hips.
'Having a beautiful and smart female secretary/personal assistant is a bit of a flex too,' he thought a bit arrogantly.
Facing Stark who stood before a transparent glass wall that faced the sea, Virginia felt her heart rate quicken.
Seeing the handsome Tony Stark whom she had secretly had a crush on for a long while being kidnapped made her restless and also made her stop denying the feelings she had.
Honestly, she wants to keep everything professional as a playboy like Tony was not really on her official list but... things happen.
After meeting Tony again she was in a very good mood.
Despite these thoughts, she carefully hid them in her heart and smiled.
"Welcome back, Tony."
"Hey, Pepps," Tony grinned.
Both of them were very close, so when alone she didn't have to address him formally.
"Looking at you now, you don't look like someone going through a mental trauma from being kidnapped," Virginia chuckled.
"Who says I'm not?" Tony raises an eyebrow in pretence.
Many people had wanted to see him immediately after hearing of his return. Reporters, Paparazzi, Shareholders, and last but not least Obadiah Stane, whom Stark decided to temporarily avoid until he came up with a solid plan for himself in this new world.
Having returned home, Tony felt like he was in a sanctuary of his own and could now properly access his situation and perfect a roadmap for himself after getting more information on the world.
Virginia had a few things to report to him about the company and how Obadiah Stane says he will come to see him on Monday next week and wishes him a good rest.
Today was Friday, so in three days he couldn't avoid meeting the man who made his kidnapping possible.
But before then, he had to make some preparations on his side.
After all, Stane is just like a Level One Boss. Too insignificant before the true powers of the universe.
The sights of Stark were far.
