Chapter 17: Chapter 17: The Bottom of the Dungeon
With Orin making the first move, a chaotic brawl erupted!
But due to Marco being the first to be taken out, and Orin suddenly jumping in, the overall advantage still lay with the Roger Pirates.
Not to mention, the Whitebeard side only had Oden as a major combatant, while the likes of Rayleigh were all masters of Advanced Conqueror's Haki. They could flick away their opponents with a single finger.
So rather than a real battle, this was more of a sparring session.
As for Orin, he was charging in headfirst. Though his strength wasn't quite on par, with his monstrous strength and honed dual-color Haki, he managed to hold his ground against Oden despite being at a disadvantage.
Orin finally understood why so many fights in the One Piece world end up in a "fifty-fifty" stalemate.
Even if one side was clearly weaker, as long as the gap wasn't overwhelming, fighting for days on end was totally doable.
Everyone's a tank!
Compared to Captain Roger's overwhelming Haki, Kozuki Oden's power was a notch below. His level of Conqueror's Haki wasn't top-tier either.
Orin probably couldn't win, but it was a great opportunity to train.
At worst, it just hurt a little.
"Ittoryu—"
Zzzzzz...
A dense layer of Armament Haki coated his blade, crackling with strands of Conqueror's Haki. With Orin's monstrous strength and swordsmanship boosting it, the slash seemed to tear the very air apart!!!
This was Orin's first time going all out, eyes constantly peeking into the future.
Oden didn't expect Orin to open with such a powerful move, but he wasn't about to back down either.
His mastery of Armament Haki surpassed Orin's. Twin blades cloaked in Haki, he charged forward with a powerful cross-slash!
"Oden Two-Sword Style!!"
In an instant, they passed by each other, their clash shattering the ground beneath them. While it didn't split the heavens, the shockwaves sent debris flying, the sheer force overwhelming.
Everyone else, who was still brawling or trading basic blows, paused in disbelief.
Wait, are you two going all out?
After that single exchange, Orin frowned as red light flared from his eyes.
What the hell?
I dodged that.
A moment later, blood gushed from Orin's mouth.
This startled the nearby Shanks and Buggy, who were already looking battered!
There wasn't a single cut on him, yet he spat blood—something had clearly gone wrong during the clash.
But Orin instantly understood:
So this is Ryuo?
Thanks to Orin's monstrous physique, even taking a direct Ryuo strike didn't put him down right away. Most of the damage had been foreseen and avoided using Observation Haki.
His body only suffered internal damage from the parts he couldn't react to.
With a body comparable to young Whitebeard's, Orin wasn't going down so easily.
"Ryuo, huh? Internal destruction through flow..."
Orin concentrated, recalling the sensation. His Observation Haki scanned Oden repeatedly, trying to make his own Armament Haki flow the same way.
"That was one terrifying slash."
Truthfully, Oden didn't come out unscathed either. Orin had predicted his block completely.
That slash had landed directly on his chest, tearing open a long wound, blood pouring out.
Fighting someone who could see the future was incredibly frustrating. Unless your power was overwhelming, you had to be ready to keep getting hurt.
No matter how you tried to defend, time itself betrayed you.
The rest of the battle followed the same rhythm. Though Oden's raw power exceeded Orin's, it couldn't overcome his insane Observation Haki and brute strength.
Oden even felt that if it came down to pure grappling, he might lose.
Worse still, as their Conqueror's Haki clashed, Orin kept trying to master Ryuo and Conqueror's coating. His power kept rising, stamina seemingly endless.
Oden had never been this frustrated in a fight.
Not even when Whitebeard or Roger had taken him out instantly.
Over time, the Ryuo that could once hurt Orin now had a hard time getting past his defense.
After two days of fierce combat,
Oden's entire arsenal had been milked dry.
Now that Orin had adapted, Oden could no longer help him grow stronger.
In fact, he had to be on guard against Orin's bizarre slashes and random black spear attacks.
"Gaban-san! Tag in!"
After clashing again, Orin didn't keep attacking. He called for backup instead.
"You really are a freak, Orin," Gaban said. He'd been bored fighting a bunch of undeveloped rookies—he couldn't even kill them. But now that Orin called him over, his eyes lit up with excitement.
"Leave this one to me."
Before Oden could protest, Orin kicked off the ground with Soru and vanished. A moment later, a burly man wielding dual axes lunged in to take his place.
A fair matchup at last. The two began a brutal back-and-forth.
Meanwhile, Orin didn't waste time. Seeing Shanks and Buggy struggling, he launched himself with a burst of speed, arriving beside them instantly.
The Whitebeard division commander they were fighting suddenly felt a chill behind him. Something bad was coming.
He whipped around, swinging a massive chain and iron ball behind him.
But the expected smash never came.
...
Amidst the smoke, footsteps echoed. A tall figure emerged, holding the massive iron ball in one hand.
"Im... Impossible! He caught it barehanded?!"
Shanks and Buggy looked up, faces lighting with joy.
"Orin! Thank goodness!"
They stepped back, blades at the ready, retreating to Orin's side.
"Stay safe, Buggy, Shanks."
Seeing the blood on their faces, Orin frowned. Crimson light blazed in his eyes as he swept his gaze over the approaching Whitebeard crew.
At the same time, his sword and spear became coated in Armament Haki—this time, a different hue.
A slow, burning red Armament Haki.
"There is no victory in your future."
Orin attacked. His spear fired bullets at impossible speeds in every direction. Each one carried the flowing red Haki.
They couldn't dodge it!!!
That was the shared feeling of everyone targeted, even those with high-level Observation Haki. All they could do was cover themselves with as much Armament Haki as possible.
Even veteran crew members were forced into defense. The trainee pirates didn't stand a chance—most were wounded. Getting hit in a limb and losing combat ability was the best-case scenario.
One chubby little guy was hit worst of all. A bullet grazed his neck and tore through his shoulder. He lay on the ground, bleeding heavily, screaming in agony.
Ryuo is incredibly hard to block. If you can't dodge it, your insides take the hit—it's brutally destructive.
Even Orin, with his freakish body, would cough blood if struck.
A few tanky opponents tried to charge him anyway.
But Orin wasn't some squishy ranged attacker. Anyone who got close paid the price.
Future Sight + Brute Strength + Ryuo...
You really thought charging me wouldn't explode?
