Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Farewell, Roger Pirates...
Just as Orin had expected, things unfolded in a predictable way.
Ever since returning from Laugh Tale, Roger had officially been crowned the "Pirate King."
Countless newspapers rushed to publish the news.
In an instant, the Roger Pirates, a crew of less than thirty, found themselves thrust to the center of the world's attention.
Naturally, the status of Orin and the other crew members soared as well—after all, they were the crew of the Pirate King who had obtained [Wealth], [Fame], and [Power].
Waves of pirates flocked in, hoping to defeat Roger and seize the legendary treasure.
Even the Navy joined the hunt, dispatching elite fleets to search for any sign of the Roger Pirates.
And so, when their fame and influence reached its peak, on an ordinary evening, every member of the Roger Pirates gathered on the deck.
Captain Roger stood before them, smiling as he delivered his final speech.
"Looking back, it's truly amazing. I, someone with so little time left, managed to make it this far. I can't thank you all enough."
Even the usually serious Gaban couldn't help but grow a little shy.
With Roger suddenly being so sincere, even Orin felt a bit awkward.
Roger looked at all his crewmates with deep fondness, but there was something he had to say.
His smile slowly faded.
"Well, it's time I said it."
Everyone straightened up, listening intently to the man who had led them on this journey—the Pirate King.
He smiled and declared:
"The Roger Pirates are hereby disbanded!!!"
So it was finally over.
Orin felt a deep sense of sentimentality and reluctance.
As the ship sailed past Fish-Man Island and ventured toward the Four Seas, the first destination was the South Blue, where Roger would disembark.
That night, the crew held a grand feast. With every passing day, chances to celebrate like this would only become fewer.
Even if they wanted the journey to last longer,
The sea breeze carried them forward,
And the Oro Jackson eventually reached its destination.
South Blue, Baterilla Island.
Roger disembarked, carrying luggage and medicine.
Everyone cried their hearts out. Even Orin couldn't hold back a few silent tears.
"Goodbye, Captain Roger."
After the farewell, the rest of the crew continued their voyage under Rayleigh's lead, heading toward the New World and Wano Country.
But to everyone's surprise, the second person to leave the ship wasn't Oden,
It was Orin.
On the way to the New World, as they were coating the ship at the Sabaody Archipelago, no one expected Orin to suddenly choose to disembark there.
"Hey, Orin, why are you in such a hurry to leave? Why not stay with me and Shanks..."
Buggy, upon hearing Orin was leaving, cried the hardest. His snot nearly rubbed off on Orin.
Orin, however, had his reasons.
"Sorry, Buggy. Before I officially begin my journey, I want to spend two years growing in Paradise. But don't worry—we'll see each other again soon. My Observation Haki never lies."
"What Observation Haki?! Yours can only see a few seconds into the future!"
Though Buggy grumbled, deep down, he respected Orin's decision. He sobbed again.
Orin packed his small bag, brought along some treasure, his sword, and his gun, and bid everyone farewell.
Before leaving, he hesitated for a moment, then looked at Oden and offered him a reminder.
Not for Oden himself, but out of the bond they shared from sailing together for a year.
"Hey, Oden. Strength is always the only way to solve problems. Pirates are far more cunning than you can imagine."
"You bastard, what are you suddenly rambling about?"
Oden was confused, but Orin didn't explain further. He simply waved and parted ways.
Truth be told, Orin never liked Oden all that much. This was just a friendly warning.
Oden's death was entirely his own choice. Orin wouldn't interfere, but he would definitely drop by Wano later to join the chaos.
After all, Orin lived by his whims.
Orin chuckled wickedly to himself
As he watched the Oro Jackson—the ship he had lived on for five years—slowly submerge on its way to Fish-Man Island.
"Farewell, Roger Pirates..."
...
"Urgh..."
Orin thought he was mentally prepared. He figured Devil Fruits must taste awful, but he hadn't expected them to be this disgusting.
Worse than stinky tofu soaked in rotten eggs and fermented for three days straight.
Originally, Orin had planned to eat the Warp-Warp Fruit sandwiched between two slices of bread in one go.
But his curiosity got the better of him.
After all, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
He took one bite—
And ended up gagging over a trash can by the roadside for half a day.
Then, with a grimace, he swallowed the rest of the fruit whole.
It was big, sure—but even Buggy had managed it years ago. Orin just had to use a bit more force.
Even with the fruit gone, the awful taste lingered in his mouth like a curse.
He needed food. Fast.
With his luggage on his back, Orin set off, testing out his ability as he went.
It didn't take long before he fully adapted to the power of the Warp-Warp Fruit.
"Interesting."
Strolling casually down the street, Orin moved like a ghost—each step teleporting him dozens of meters forward.
It had the vibe of a rogue antihero.
However, Orin wasn't too familiar with the Sabaody Archipelago. He'd never really explored it thoroughly.
Even with his Observation Haki detecting terrain,
He wasn't sure what each district was for.
He turned left, then right—
And eventually arrived at a street bursting with color. He narrowed his eyes silently.
Was this fate?
Men indulged in pleasure, and scantily clad women sashayed about. Orin didn't need to guess where he was.
Especially with his Observation Haki picking up the "Beauty and the Beast" action scenes playing out in the surrounding buildings.
All this after years on Roger's ship surrounded by men!
"Oh my, oh my... I never expected someone like you to show up here."
