Starting From Being Adopted by the Second Hokage!

Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Was He Dreaming?

Nighttime, training field.

The blade in Renya's hand sliced through the damp air, and the moonlight reflected off the katana's curved surface in a cold flash of silver.

His sweat-soaked black sleeves clung tightly to his arms, and each swing of the young boy's sword was executed with utmost seriousness.

He recalled the key points taught by Senju Tobirama. With a subtle flick of the wrist, the blade cleaved the silence, letting out a sharp whooshing sound.

"Lower your shoulders, drop your elbows, channel your strength to the tip of the blade." Tobirama's voice echoed in his ears. Every swing was sharp and precise.

Renya continuously shifted his technique, from basic slashes to complex combos. His movements flowed like a stream.

Occasionally, he would suddenly pause, reviewing his previous actions in his mind to reflect on areas he could improve.

Three years ago, Renya had realized that just training his body wasn't enough—he needed to master the use of weapons as well.

In combat, those with weapons often held the advantage.

So, he had proactively requested to learn kenjutsu from Senju Tobirama.

After three years of grueling training, his swordsmanship had taken shape.

At the end of his practice, Renya sheathed his blade.

This sword was something he had bought at a ninja tools shop for a hefty price.

While the material wasn't particularly exceptional, it was more than enough for his current level.

As for a better weapon—that would come after he became a ninja and earned some money.

Today, they had requested early graduation from Senju Tobirama, and he had approved it.

Tomorrow would be their first day as official ninja!

Renya was a little excited about the life ahead.

"I wonder who my team leader will be?"

In his memory, newly graduated genin squads were typically led by chunin or jonin.

Since fresh genin lacked experience, they were prone to mistakes during missions.

At such times, the experience of a chunin or jonin leader was crucial to ensure the mission's success—and survival.

...

The next day, at the Konoha training field.

Senju Tobirama walked over holding a list of team assignments and announced:

"Uchiha Kagami, Mitokado Homura, Sarutobi Hiruzen."

"Shimura Danzō, Koharu Utatane, Uchiha Renya."

"Stay here. Your jonin squad leaders will arrive shortly."

With that said, Tobirama turned and left.

He was a busy man—how could he have time to personally lead a team?

The six of them were left staring at one another on the training field.

Danzō's face instantly darkened.

Damn it, how unlucky could he be?

"Heh, Danzō, never thought we'd end up on the same team."

Just imagining being able to bully Danzō during missions made the corners of Renya's mouth curl up to his ears.

To Danzō, Renya's smile looked nothing short of demonic.

"Danzō, from now on, we're teammates," said Koharu Utatane.

"Mm." Danzō nodded.

Though he looked down on Koharu, she was still better than Uchiha Renya.

Not long after, two middle-aged men wearing jonin vests arrived at the training field.

"Hey kids, I'm Senju Tanaka, and this is Senju Yūsuke. We'll be your team instructors."

Senju Tanaka had a more cheerful personality, whereas Senju Yūsuke was stern and rigid.

Renya wasn't surprised that their jonin instructors were from the Senju clan.

If Senju Tobirama wanted someone to supervise their performance, it made sense to choose a trusted clansman.

"From now on, I'll be your squad's jonin leader," said Senju Yūsuke as he walked up to the group.

"Good morning, sensei." The three of them bowed respectfully.

Senju Yūsuke nodded in satisfaction at their attitude.

"Follow me."

Soon, he led them to a riverbank.

"This will be our designated meeting point from now on."

"Now, let's see what you've got." He paused for a moment before continuing, "The three of you, work together."

Hearing this, Renya's expression turned serious. He slowly drew his blade.

Shimura Danzō and Koharu Utatane stepped up beside Renya.

The three exchanged a look before Danzō took the lead.

"Wind Release: Vacuum Serial Waves!"

Countless wind blades shot forth like arrows, speeding toward Senju Yūsuke.

Yūsuke easily dodged, and the jutsu struck the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.

At that moment, Renya, wielding his katana, used the dust as cover to move to the right.

As soon as he saw Yūsuke, he didn't hesitate and swung his blade downward at an angle.

The blade wind grazed past Yūsuke's ear, slicing off a few strands of black hair.

"Too slow." In a flash, Yūsuke appeared behind Renya.

At the critical moment, Koharu's chain wrapped around Yūsuke's ankle.

"Sensei, don't underestimate us!"

But before she could finish, Yūsuke flung a shuriken over his shoulder, precisely severing the chain. The razor-sharp weapon grazed Koharu's cheek, making her instinctively take a half-step back.

Danzō seized the opportunity to form seals. "Wind Release: Vacuum Wave!"

Yūsuke leapt onto a tree branch to dodge, then looked down with a sneer.

"Good coordination, but too many openings."

With that, three shuriken flew toward them.

Renya swung his sword to deflect them, sending sparks flying.

Koharu rolled aside, barely dodging.

Danzō was still forming hand seals and couldn't react in time—one shuriken struck his shoulder. His face turned deathly pale.

"Danzō, are you okay?" Koharu ran to his side, wanting to heal him with medical ninjutsu.

But Danzō shouted, "Forget about me—go help Uchiha Renya!"

Without hesitation, Koharu rushed toward Renya.

Gritting his teeth, Danzō clutched his shoulder and rejoined the battle.

He knew his injury had become a liability to the team.

Yūsuke gave him a look of appreciation, then sent him flying with a single kick.

"If you're injured, then stay down and don't move!"

Danzō: "???"

The fight had reached its climax. The sound of clashing weapons and heavy breathing filled the air.

When Yūsuke finally trapped all three of them in the earth using an Earth Release jutsu, the hourglass in his hand emptied completely.

Looking at the trio buried with only their heads above ground, he smirked.

"Half an incense stick. Barely passed."

He suddenly tossed three forehead protectors into the air.

"Next time, I won't go so easy on you."

"Aaah!"

One of the protectors landed squarely on Danzō's face, making his already pale face even whiter.

Only then did Yūsuke realize they were still stuck in the earth.

"Haha, my bad." He quickly released the jutsu and freed them.

After informing them to meet back here tomorrow morning, he left.

Once Koharu got out, she immediately ran to Danzō to heal him.

Renya picked up the forehead protectors from the ground and handed them over.

"Sorry... I held everyone back earlier," Danzō said quietly.

If he hadn't gotten hurt, they wouldn't have had such a tough time.

Renya was a little surprised.

He hadn't expected those words to come out of Danzō's mouth.

He had originally planned to mock him.

But since he apologized, he let it slide.

"It's fine. Just be more careful next time," Renya said, waving his hand.

Danzō looked up in disbelief, stunned.

Was he dreaming?

Uchiha Renya—that bastard—didn't mock him?

Koharu Utatane stood to the side, smiling warmly at the two of them.
