Starting From Being Adopted by the Second Hokage!

Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Bitter Battle

Outskirts of the Land of Fire.

"This time, I won't interfere with the mission. You three handle it on your own," Senju Yusuke said as he looked at the group. "Brats, don't die out there."

He tossed the mission scroll to Renya, then vanished in a blur.

Renya opened the scroll:

[A group of ruthless bandits has taken control of a key trade route. They frequently raid passing caravans and nearby villages, causing severe disruption to the region's stability. Eliminate these damned bandits. (Note: There are suspected rogue ninja among the bandits. Recommended for a Chūnin-level team.)]

After reading the mission, Renya's expression turned serious.

"There are rogue ninja among the bandits. We'll have to be extra careful."

"Are they Genin or Chūnin?" Koharu Utatane asked.

If they were just Genin, that would be manageable. But if they were Chūnin, things would get much more complicated.

The three of them would have to deal not only with regular bandits, but also potentially face rogue Chūnin—raising the difficulty significantly.

"No idea. But we should prepare as if they're Chūnin."

None of them even considered the possibility that the enemy might be a Jōnin.

After all, what kind of bored Jōnin would lower themselves to become a bandit?

It was usually the half-baked Genin or weak Chūnin who resorted to that kind of life—lording over ordinary people with their small amount of strength.

Renya looked at the other two and said,

"Let's observe the enemy after dark, then figure out the battle plan."

Neither of them said much. They found a place to rest and prepared for the coming night battle.

Renya noticed his body trembling slightly. With a confused look, he muttered:

"Am I scared? No... This feels more like... excitement!"

...

After spending years in the shinobi world, this was his first mission that involved killing.

Night fell. The moonlight was hidden behind heavy clouds.

Renya and his two teammates lay concealed in the bushes several hundred meters from the bandit camp.

All three held their breath, completely focused.

Renya's Sharingan glowed faintly red in the dark, picking up every movement in the enemy camp with precision.

"Two watchtowers form a pincer-like angle, covering almost the entire camp," Renya whispered, drawing a simple map in the dirt with his finger.

"The wooden houses on the west side are the main living quarters. Those three buildings on the east side are likely where the rogue ninja are staying."

"When it's late at night, we'll take out the sentries first. Then we eliminate the bandits as quickly as possible, and finally handle the rogue ninja."

Shimura Danzō and Koharu nodded in agreement.

The time ticked past midnight—typically the drowsiest part of the night.

Renya gripped [Immaculate] and signaled for action.

The three of them moved swiftly through the darkness toward the enemy camp.

At that moment, the sentries on the watchtower were so drowsy they could barely keep their eyes open. They didn't notice the intruders at all.

Renya activated his Sharingan and hurled three shuriken mid-air—each one piercing a sentry's throat with surgical precision.

At nearly the same time, Koharu and Danzō completed their ambushes. Four bodies dropped silently to the ground.

"Stick to the plan. Clear out the trash first," Renya said quietly.

He rushed into a nearby room. The bandits inside were still sound asleep, completely unaware that death was closing in.

Renya didn't hesitate. He slit the man's throat with a single stroke.

Warm blood splashed onto his face—but instead of fear or disgust, a wave of excitement surged through him.

Blade in hand, Renya moved on to the next room.

Cries and curses rang out. Bandits wielding steel blades stumbled out, panicked and uncoordinated.

Clearly, their surprise attack had been exposed.

Renya's eyes locked onto the first few men. Their movements suddenly froze, and they turned their blades on each other in a frenzy of self-destruction.

"Finish it fast!" Renya barked, increasing his pace.

They had to eliminate all the grunts before the rogue ninja caught on.

These bandits were just ordinary thugs. Killing them was easy. Before long, Renya's team had wiped them all out.

"Bastards! Stop right there!"

A muscular man wielding a large blade finally appeared, far too late.

His eyes burned with rage as he looked at the corpses of his men.

He'd only been gone a short while, and these brats had already wiped out his whole crew.

"Damn Konoha punks, I won't let you off alive!"

"He's a Chūnin. You two cover me."

Renya launched the first attack, going straight for the man's vitals.

The man calmly blocked the strike with his massive blade.

The impact made Renya's hands go numb, forcing him to take a few steps back.

"Die, brat!" the man roared, raising his blade.

Just then, Danzō and Koharu stepped in to support him.

Danzō quickly formed hand seals and shouted, "Wind Release: Vacuum Strike!"

The man roared and shattered the Wind Release with a powerful swing of his sword.

Using the cloud of dust as cover, he charged straight at Danzō.

Danzō's face paled, and he hurried to cast a defensive jutsu.

But the man's strength was overwhelming. His sword crashed down, shattering the defense. The impact sent Danzō flying, coughing up blood.

In that moment, only one thought echoed in Danzō's mind:

[I'm dragging them down again...]

Seeing this, Koharu's eyes flashed with urgency. She immediately began using medical ninjutsu to treat Danzō's wounds.

Meanwhile, Renya rushed in once more, engaging the man in intense close combat.

Their weapons clashed violently, sparks flying, steel colliding in a flurry of strikes.

Renya used his Sharingan to the fullest, searching for any opening.

The man, frustrated by his inability to finish off the brat, suddenly let out a roar. His muscles tightened and his power surged.

His blade rained down like a violent storm. Renya couldn't dodge in time—his right shoulder was slashed, and blood soaked his clothes.

The pain turned his face ghostly pale, and he quickly distanced himself.

Just as Renya reached his limit, the slightly-recovered Danzō and Koharu rejoined the fight.

Koharu cast a Fire Release technique, unleashing a torrent of flames at the enemy.

Danzō followed up with Wind Release, feeding the fire and turning it into a blazing inferno.

The man was forced to retreat under the onslaught of flames. Renya seized the chance, channeling chakra into [Immaculate] and flashing in front of the enemy.

The man swung his blade in a last-ditch effort to block—but Renya's strike carried everything he had, and with the backup of Danzō and Koharu, the blade finally shattered.

[Immaculate] plunged straight into the man's chest. His eyes went wide in disbelief, blood spurting from his mouth as he collapsed to the ground.

The battle was over.

Renya slumped down, staring at the corpse, overcome with relief at having survived.

B-rank missions were insane. They had nearly died out here.

If he had known, he never would've listened to Danzō's dumb suggestion.

Koharu quickly ran to Renya and used medical ninjutsu to stop the bleeding.

Danzō lay on the ground, eyes vacant as he stared at the sky.

Once again, he'd been the team's burden...

"Tch tch, so... still up for another B-rank mission next time?"

At some point, Senju Yusuke appeared in front of them.

Of course, there was no way he had truly left them alone. If any of them had died, Tobirama would've torn him apart.

Still, Yusuke clicked his tongue in surprise. He hadn't expected them to actually take down a Chūnin together.

No doubt about it—they were Tobirama's disciples.

Renya stood up and yanked [Immaculate] from the man's body. Just like Tobirama had said, not a drop of blood stained the blade.

He looked up at Yusuke and said, "Of course we'll take it!"

Hearing that, Yusuke froze for a second.

This brat... already forgot the pain?

Wait, no—the wound's still wide open!

He stared at the blood dripping from Renya's shoulder in silence.

Only then did Renya realize that drawing the blade had torn open the wound again.

"Koharu, Koharu!"
