Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Gluttonous Hawk Eyes
Aboard the Six Paths of Reincarnation, Kaito was staring blankly at a long, long receipt.
Behind him, Kalifa and Ain were covering their mouths, trying not to laugh as they recalled what had happened that day.
It was the afternoon when Kaito had gone to the hospital to visit Hawk Eyes.
Just as he was about to take Kalifa and Ain out for a bite, he was blocked at the entrance by none other than Hawk Eyes, who had clearly been waiting for him.
Kaito was naturally confused.
What was this guy doing here waiting for him?
Had he been defeated and now become a clingy little fanboy?
With his usual deadpan expression, Hawk Eyes said stiffly,
"I'm leaving tomorrow. What, are you really going to make me eat at your Marine canteen for dinner tonight?"
"Oh? Then what do you want?"
"The wound on my chest was your doing. I'm leaving soon. Don't you think you owe me at least one dinner?"
Kaito raised an eyebrow.
What, this guy wanted him to treat him to a fancy meal?
Looks like Hawk Eyes was a grudge-holder after all.
Fine then.
With Hawk Eyes' skinny arms and legs, how much could he even eat?
Kaito's Door space was still stocked with literal mountains of gold — if Hawk Eyes wanted to try stuffing himself, let him.
Thinking that, Kaito sneered and waved his hand grandly.
"Alright, my treat. Come on, I'll take you to the best restaurant at headquarters. Don't say I'm stingy."
With that, Kaito called Kalifa and Ain and swaggered ahead to lead the way.
Hawk Eyes followed behind with a faint, meaningful smile.
...
At the restaurant, Hawk Eyes didn't hold back at all.
As soon as he got the menu, he started ordering one rich dish after another without hesitation.
Kaito glanced over and noticed that every dish he picked was made from Sea Kings.
Kaito nodded inwardly.
At least this guy had good taste — Sea King meat was incredibly fresh and rich in nutrients.
The only downside was that it was expensive.
Then again, when the prices were clearly listed, "expensive" wasn't really a flaw of the dish — it was a flaw of the customer.
Besides, dishes made from Sea Kings were served in huge portions.
Even Kaito couldn't eat more than a few plates at once.
Staring at the long list of dishes Hawk Eyes had ordered, Kaito gave a cold snort.
Just wait — I'll show you what it means to bite off more than you can chew.
But to Kaito's stunned disbelief, Hawk Eyes wiped the entire table clean.
Then, as if nothing had happened, he turned to Kaito and asked,
"Still a bit hungry. This restaurant of yours is pretty stingy. What was all that even supposed to do?"
The moment Kaito heard that, he was annoyed.
Headquarters was his home now, which made its restaurant his personal kitchen — was Hawk Eyes just insulting him directly?
He slammed the menu onto the table.
"Take it. Order whatever you want. I'd love to see how much more you can possibly eat."
And so, Hawk Eyes kept eating, plate after plate.
Hours passed, and he didn't slow down at all.
After finishing the final dish, he daintily pulled out a napkin and wiped his mouth with practiced grace.
"Not bad. Taste was decent. Just... portion sizes are really lacking. I'm about eighty percent full, I'd say."
Kaito was completely numb by this point.
He looked at Hawk Eyes' still-flat stomach and blurted out,
"..."
Kaito remembered that when Hawk Eyes had lived with Perona in that castle, the dining table hadn't exactly been overflowing with food.
Was this guy secretly a master of Seimei Kikan?
In the end, Kaito paid the entire bill... and deliberately kept the receipt as a reminder:
Hawk Eyes is a bottomless pit.
...
A soldier came up to the deck and saluted Kaito.
"Report, Vice Admiral Shikiryū — we've arrived at the Red Line!"
"Got it."
Kaito stored the long receipt back into his Door space, then turned to look toward the Red Line.
This towering landmass stood at a high altitude.
Ordinary people needed to take a lift to reach the top.
In the original series, when Vivi and the others came here for the meeting, they'd taken the same route.
Now, several men in black suits were already waiting near the elevator.
Kaito didn't bring anyone else with him — it wasn't time to fall out with the World Government just yet, and unnecessary drama would only complicate things.
Fortunately, this group didn't include any arrogant fools.
They were all quite respectful toward him.
Kaito gave them a curt nod, and one of the agents activated the lift.
It slowly rose upward.
...
When they reached the top and Kaito stepped out, he immediately saw Charlos' sister — the ostentatiously dressed Saint Shalria.
He only glanced at her before looking around to inspect the area.
Shalria lit up the moment she saw Kaito, but her smile quickly vanished when he didn't even spare her a second look.
She stomped up to him with a sour face.
"Do you have any idea how hard it is to see you?! Did you forget what you promised me?!"
Kaito blinked.
Promised? What did I promise her?
Seeing his blank expression, Shalria instantly knew he hadn't taken it to heart at all.
Kaito's nonchalant attitude made her furious.
"You promised to be my bodyguard, didn't you?!"
"Huh? When did I say that?"
"That night on Sabaody!"
"That night? What about it?"
"You said you'd—"
She suddenly cut herself off, realizing what she was about to say.
Her eyes darted toward her nearby attendants, her expression turning hostile.
Those attendants immediately felt a chill run up their spines.
The moment Shalria said "that night," they knew something was wrong.
They weren't supposed to hear that conversation.
But it was already too late.
From the way Shalria was looking at them now, like they were already corpses, their fate was sealed.
Kaito frowned, reached out, and grabbed the bubble hood on her head.
With a light twist, he turned her face back toward him.
The guards were horrified.
Touching a Celestial Dragon like that was high treason!
Was this Marine suicidal?
But Shalria just blushed.
She didn't seem to mind at all.
Kaito didn't care why she was suddenly going red again.
He scolded her like a child.
"What were you daydreaming about this time?"
"N-Nothing!"
"Good. As long as I'm around, don't pull any stunts. And let me ask you — what are you doing here?"
"They said our relationship is... special, so they sent me to pick you up."
"And who said we have a special relationship?"
That question visibly irritated Shalria.
She ignored the fact that her bubble hood was still in Kaito's hand and snapped with her chin held high,
"It is special!"
"Tch... You little—"
Looking at the shameless, stubborn Shalria, Kaito's hand twitched involuntarily.
Seriously, what was wrong with him?
He'd never condoned violence.
He was a peace-loving Uchiha.
So why... did he always feel the urge to punch this woman whenever he saw her?
