Starting from Prototype to Immortality

Chapter 22: Chapter 22: Super Evolution!

Chapter 22: Super Evolution!

Although Chang Wei's physique was smaller compared to monsters like Goliath and Hydra infected by the Blacklight Virus, his density and mass far surpassed theirs.

It was akin to comparing a fist-sized block of steel to a foam box—the steel might be smaller, but it could effortlessly destroy the foam. The destruction of the Blacklight Virus on the surface of his body did not surprise Chang Wei. After all, if a nuclear bomb couldn't achieve that, it wouldn't be a nuclear bomb.

Currently, Chang Wei resembled an ant ball, where the outer ants sacrificed themselves to protect those inside. However, unlike the ants, Chang Wei had the idea of using the nuclear bomb to force his Blacklight Virus to evolve.

The Blacklight Virus could adaptively evolve to counteract and withstand abilities harmful to itself. Faced with the shockwave, heat, and radiation from a nuclear blast yielding 40 megatons, the potential of the virus—already propelled by Chang Wei to become a "Super Blacklight Virus"—far exceeded that of Elizabeth or Alex.

Thus, Chang Wei eagerly anticipated whether the pressure from the nuclear bomb could trigger an evolution independent of the system!

---

The nuclear explosion ended, leaving Manhattan Island in ruins. The island's most prosperous area, which was also home to the highest concentration of Blacklight Virus organisms, had been annihilated.

Before the detonation, Chang Wei had already ordered his subordinates to leave Manhattan via waterways.

The surface of the island was now laden with excessive radiation, the ground vitrified into a glass-like structure. From within the nuclear blast zone, heavy footsteps echoed.

With each step, large, writhing chunks of distorted Blacklight Virus fell off Chang Wei's body, squirming on the ground.

"Evolve! Evolve for me!"

"Absorb the radiation! I'm going to become Godzilla!"

"Come on, if Godzilla can do it, there's no reason the enhanced Blacklight Virus can't!"

"What's an atomic reactor compared to the unscientific nature of the Blacklight Virus?"

For the first time, Chang Wei experienced the agony brought by intense radiation. His body felt as if it were being torn apart and crushed in a hydraulic press. The torment was so severe even he found it hard to endure.

With no other choice, Chang Wei manipulated his hormones, converting the pain into pleasure.

"Hahahaha!"

He rolled on the ground, laughing maniacally. The stimulation was overwhelming! Once the pain was converted, Chang Wei experienced a sensation far exceeding anything between men and women—far surpassing the euphoria induced by any drug. His dopamine levels surged by 5,000 times, continuing to climb.

Overwhelmed, Chang Wei decided to calm himself by cutting into his own body.

Half of his head was cleaved off but regenerated almost instantly. This brief moment of sobriety allowed Chang Wei to suppress his hormone levels and block his pain receptors.

Watching as his body began to decay, Chang Wei realized that even the evolved, enhanced Blacklight Virus struggled to withstand such severe radiation.

It was unimaginable that this nuclear bomb, already modernized and less radioactive than its predecessors, could still exert such power.

However, Chang Wei wasn't overly concerned. After all, he had the system as his trump card.

Currently, Chang Wei's DNA information capacity was about eight times that of a human. It included not only reptilian traits but also characteristics of fish, birds, and other species, granting him the ability to adapt to various environments without the need for prolonged evolution.

"It's happening."

Chang Wei felt the changes within his body. As it continued to decay—his lower body disintegrating up to his chest, and his upper body barely resembling anything human—his bones were exposed.

New Blacklight Virus tissue began to grow, fueled by the vast reserves of energy Chang Wei had stored, which became the key to his evolution.

Without the continuous regeneration of the Blacklight Virus, the current transformation wouldn't have been possible.

Chang Wei noticed that the burning sensation around him had disappeared. Although he had blocked his pain receptors, his sense of touch remained intact.

"Has the radiation decreased?"

Rising to his feet, his body felt immensely powerful, as though it contained the strength to destroy the heavens and earth. The sensation was unprecedented.

"Boom!"

Chang Wei threw a punch, instantly creating a vacuum-like effect in the air. Moments later, a half-destroyed building hundreds of meters away collapsed entirely.

He wasn't sure if the building had become fragile due to the nuclear blast or if his strength had grown overwhelming.

"It's not generated within the body but within the cells?"

Chang Wei observed in surprise. He could sense the subtle changes in his body, especially with the system assisting him.

The system revealed that every cell in Chang Wei's body—or rather, every Blacklight Virus cell—now contained an organelle resembling a nuclear reactor. These organelles could process radioactive materials and absorb radiation.

His musculoskeletal system, nervous system, endocrine system, circulatory system, and digestive system had all undergone a complete transformation to harness nearly limitless atomic energy.

This newly reconstructed body was now hundreds of times stronger than before!
