Chapter 20: Chapter 20 Kakashi, The Mad Scientist (But With Lightning)

Alright. Time to push Godspeed even further.

Sure, the instant reflexes thing was cool, but it wasn't enough. I needed more. More control. More speed. More "wow, Kakashi, how the hell did you just appear behind me?"

So, naturally, I had to break the sound barrier.

"Have you considered not doing that?" Rin asked, arms crossed.

Obito nodded. "Yeah, maybe don't?"

Minato gave me a mildly concerned look. "You do realize that kind of speed would create a shockwave, right?"

"That's the goal," I said, stretching.

Minato pinched the bridge of his nose. "Why do I let you train unsupervised?"

But let's be real—he wasn't gonna stop me. He was Minato. The guy loved speed.

So I charged up. More chakra. More electricity. More stupidly reckless ambition. My body crackled with energy, and I could feel the buildup of power humming in my veins.

I locked onto my target—a tree far across the field.

Move.

The world blurred.

A boom echoed behind me—air ripping apart from the sheer force of my acceleration.

For a moment, I thought I did it.

Then my foot caught a rock.

And I ate dirt.

Hard.

Dust exploded everywhere as I skidded across the ground, finally coming to a stop in a crater of my own making.

Silence.

Then—

"Pfft—"

"PFTTTT—"

Obito collapsed laughing. "YOU—BWHAHA—YOU JUST FACEPLANTED AT THE SPEED OF SOUND!"

"Ow."

Rin groaned. "Kakashi, I told you."

Minato sighed, rubbing his temples. "Alright. Let's take a break before you actually break something important."

I groaned from my dirt grave, twitching slightly as static danced across my body.

Okay. Maybe I needed to iron out a few things.

But hey—progress!

Now that I had a working prototype of my Godspeed ability, it was time to push it further. Because what was the point of getting super speed if I wasn't going to break physics a little?

Minato-sensei, ever the observant mentor, decided it was time for a practical test.

"Alright," he said, standing in the middle of the training ground, arms crossed. "Let's see how well you can use this in a real fight."

Obito perked up immediately. "Oh, I wanna fight him!"

I shot him a lazy look. "You sure about that?"

He scoffed. "You think a little speed is gonna scare me? Bring it on, Cyclops!"

I rolled my eye. "Alright, but don't cry when this goes badly for you."

Rin sighed. "Can you guys just fight without the trash talk?"

Obito and I both looked at her, then at each other.

"No."

Minato chuckled. "Alright, Kakashi—show us what you've got."

The moment Minato gave the signal, I disappeared.

Obito tensed, his Sharingan darting around to track my movement. Good. He was learning.

Still too slow, though.

I zipped behind him, flicking his ear again.

"AGH!" He spun, swinging wildly. "STOP DOING THAT!"

"Why?" I reappeared on his left, tapping his shoulder. "It's funny."

He whirled around, fist flying—only to hit nothing but air.

"Too slow." I was behind him again. Another flick.

"KAKASHI!"

After thoroughly annoying Obito, I finally went on the offensive. I charged at him, electricity crackling around my body.

His Sharingan tracked my movement better this time, and he ducked, narrowly avoiding my first strike. Good reflexes.

But not good enough.

Before he could counter, I twisted mid-air, flipping over him and landing a sharp kick to his back.

He stumbled forward but caught himself, sliding to a stop. "Damn it…!"

His Sharingan spun faster, analyzing my movements. I could tell he was close to predicting me now. Another few rounds, and he'd start landing counters.

So I had to end this now.

I dashed forward, electricity pulsing through my muscles. Obito raised his arms to block, expecting a punch.

I vanished—then reappeared behind him.

"Crap—!"

Too late.

I swept his legs out from under him, and with one last flick to the forehead, he faceplanted.

Dust settled.

Silence.

Then—

"DAMN IT!"

I smirked, stepping back. "You're getting better, though."

Obito groaned into the dirt. "That didn't feel like a compliment."

"It wasn't."

Minato clapped once. "Alright, that's enough. Good work, both of you." He smiled slightly. "Especially you, Kakashi. That technique is coming along nicely."

I crossed my arms, nodding. "Still needs refining. I'm fast, but I want it to be instantaneous."

Minato's smile widened. "Then let's keep training."

With my Godspeed technique improving, I had a brilliant idea.

What if I tested it against Minato-sensei?

…Yeah. I can hear you judging me. "Kakashi, you absolute moron," you say. "You really thought speed would work against the guy known as the Yellow Flash?"

And to that, I say: Yes. Yes, I did.

Because I'm an optimist.

Spoiler alert: It did not go well.

I had one advantage: Minato couldn't teleport unless he had a marked kunai or seal. So if I struck before he could place one, I could maybe—and I stress maybe—land a hit before he blinked across the field like an anime protagonist dodging taxes.

So, the plan:

Move so fast he can't react.

Strike before he can teleport.

Land one solid hit.

Celebrate and never let him live it down.

Flawless, right?

Minato stood in the training ground, waiting patiently. "Whenever you're ready, Kakashi."

I took a deep breath, activating Godspeed. Electricity surged through my muscles. My vision sharpened. The world slowed.

Now.

I launched forward, my body moving like lightning. The air hummed. The ground cracked beneath my feet.

Almost there—!

Minato… blinked.

And suddenly, his entire body vanished.

"Oh, come on—!"

I felt the tap on my shoulder a millisecond before I processed it.

"Nice try."

I turned, but his foot was already sweeping my legs out from under me. I hit the ground before I could even think about countering.

The dust settled.

Minato stood above me, smiling. "Fast, Kakashi. But not fast enough."

I groaned. "I hate you."

Obito was dying of laughter in the background. "You really thought you could outspeed Minato-sensei?! BWAHAHA!"

Rin sighed. "Obito, don't be mean."

"I—hahaha—I can't help it—!"

I scowled. "I was this close—"

Minato hummed. "Not quite."

"This close—!" I repeated, holding up two fingers barely apart.

"Nope."

I let out a long sigh. "Alright. New plan. Get even faster."

Minato chuckled, offering me a hand. "Now that's the right mindset."

I took his hand and let him pull me up. My pride was bruised. My body was sore. But you know what?

I was gonna win next time.

Maybe.

Possibly.

...Okay, probably not. But I was definitely getting closer.
