After dealing with the fleeing soldiers, the army of Suiye City was confronted by a horde of demonic creatures, each more terrifying than the last. Among them were bat-like monsters with massive wings and razor-sharp claws, circling above and screeching piercingly. Others resembled giant insects, their bodies encased in hard shells, with sharp mandibles capable of tearing through defenses with ease. There were also plant-like demons, their countless tendrils writhing in the air, slamming against the ground with dull thuds.
Some of the creatures were even more grotesque, seemingly amalgamations of various beasts, with twisted limbs, sharp fangs, and malevolent eyes. Under normal circumstances, such monsters would never gather together. It was only during times of war that the demons would forcibly unite them, using their superior authority and strength to control and command them.
"All archers, switch to enchanted arrows!" Ivan commanded.
Then, in a lower voice, he added to Flame, "Find a spot and prepare the electromagnetic cannon. I'll draw their attention."
As the enemy army noticed the Suiye soldiers loading their arrows with magical energy, one of the demon commanders, standing atop a giant beetle, stepped forward. In his hands, he held a plump, middle-aged bald man in luxurious robes and a young knight bound tightly with ropes.
"Who do you think you are? Don't you see I have the Lord of Vine City and his son as hostages? They are important figures among you humans. Do you dare risk harming them with your arrows?" the demon shouted.
The demon commander was confident. The hostage strategy had worked well in the past, and with two nobles in his grasp, he believed the humans wouldn't dare act recklessly.
The nobleman, trembling with fear, cried out, "Don't shoot! I'm a count, the city lord! You all know the consequences of harming a noble!"
Ivan smirked. "Ah, so you're the city lord. My apologies. It must be quite embarrassing to be captured by demons. Why don't you just end it all? I'll take good care of your wife and daughter for you."
"What are you saying?!" the bound knight shouted. "We're on your side!"
"Who knows if you've been brainwashed by the demons? You two look like traitors to me," Ivan retorted.
Seeing that the archers had finished loading their enchanted arrows and Flame was in position, Ivan decided there was no point in further conversation. Demons and foolish hostages might cling to logic, but he had no such constraints.
"Allies? I'll take out allies too!" Ivan declared, raising his hand and slashing it downward.
The air was filled with the twang of bowstrings as a barrage of arrows shot toward the enemy.
"Fire! Keep firing! A noble house needs no allies!" Ivan shouted.
The demon commander, caught off guard by Ivan's disregard for the hostages, quickly retreated. But in that moment of confusion, Flame unleashed her fully charged electromagnetic cannon.
"Boom—!"
With a deafening roar, the superheated projectile broke the sound barrier, leaving a trail of fiery light in its wake. It struck the demon commander, the city lord, and the knight in one devastating blow.
A triple kill!
Although the demonic army still had other commanders, the sudden loss of one caused chaos in their ranks. Seizing the opportunity, Ivan summoned the massive corpse of a dark dragon from his spatial ring and sent his zombie troops to absorb the initial onslaught. Meanwhile, his cavalry flanked the enemy, armed not only with traditional weapons but also with low-grade bone guns. These guns, usable even by those without magical abilities, fired bullets crafted from the remains of the demon general who had slaughtered Flame's village. Each bullet was inscribed with a spatial array, and Ivan held full control over them. Even if a gun were lost, he could remotely detonate the bullets to prevent them from falling into enemy hands.
After assessing the situation, Ivan concluded that his forces could easily overwhelm the enemy. However, his stock of demon corpses was running low, and he needed to replenish it quickly.
Once the initial barrage was exhausted, Ivan ordered his troops to cease their ranged attacks and personally entered the fray. Armed with his dual swords, Ganjiang and Moye, he moved with deadly precision, cutting down enemies within ten paces.
After securing a few demon corpses, Ivan used his spatial magic to bypass the enemy's front lines and confront the remaining demon commanders. Before they could cast their spells, he shot them down with his gun, swiftly collecting their bodies into his spatial ring. The era of magic was over—even instant spells couldn't match the speed of a bullet.
Having achieved his objectives, Ivan teleported back to his army to rest briefly before targeting the next demon commander.
"Father, let me help too," Zanze offered.
Ivan shook his head. "No, it's too dangerous. There are cunning creatures among the demons. If you charge in and get ambushed, what then?"
Ivan's body was reinforced by divine power, and he didn't have to worry about running out of magic. Zanze, however, didn't have such advantages.
"Before I left, Mother gave me some tools. You don't have to worry about me getting hurt," Zanze insisted.
"Tools? What tools?" Ivan asked.
"Remember when we used to watch Armor Hero together as kids?" Zanze replied.
She pulled out a metallic belt from her spatial ring, along with a card radiating powerful demonic energy—clearly from a high-ranking demon.
Ivan's eyes widened. "Damn, Seria, you really spoil her!"
"What are you two talking about?" Flame asked, having retreated to rest after exhausting her magic. Despite the intense battle, her clothes remained pristine, as pure and beautiful as a lotus flower.
Seeing Flame approach, Zanze hesitated for a moment before handing the belt and card to Ivan.
"On second thought, my strength lies in my hair. Transforming would waste that. You should use the Asura Armor, Father. Once transformed, you'll gain the demon's magic and all the spells it spent a lifetime mastering. Your attack and defense will also increase."
Ivan, though puzzled by Zanze's sudden change of heart, gladly accepted the transformation gear, grinning like a child who had just received a new toy.
