StarWars Old Republic: Scars Of War

Chapter 7: Mission and Zaalbar

Rooms were crowded with the worst of the worst in the galaxy. In Nar Shaddaa everywhere was crawling with scum, and scoundrels. In the casinos of Nar Shadda, Mission was at the table playing another card game, while having already lost track of time. Zaalbar stood by the bar the whole time, while having a drink. A Rodian had gotten in the Wookies way, which gave him a growl, scarring the Rodian away. He looked back, as he saw Mission continue doing what she was doing. The Twilek looked deep into her cards before looking back at her opponent, who was giving her an arrogant smirk. She rolled her eyes before pushing more credits wagering everything she had, causing her opponent to be arrogant, while the crowd around them watched. Mission had waited, and waited with her watching sweat dripping down her opponent's face. The opponent put down double kings, gasping the crowd. He then demanded she give him all the credits thinking he won, however Mission had put out double aces, causing everyone to cheer. The Trandoshan was speechless, but Mission left without him saying anything. Zaalbar was not too far behind, as he followed her through the crowd.

The pair had walked outside, it was dark out. They looked around to see businesses going. Mission thought to herself, she has been wandering around the galaxy with her loyal friend for the past year. She had always wanted to start her own business rather than doing anything that was scoundrel related. She and Zaalbar were tired of it, but they never fulfilled their dream. Mission felt bad about it, but she also missed her friends, Revan, Bastila, Canderous, Carth, and others during her travels, but she looked at Zaalbar and was just glad he didn't leave her. The Wookie smiled at her, and pulled her in for a hug. Both were ready to call it a night until they heard a scream. They walked to see what it was, from a distance men in armor were terrorizing a civilian. The two walked closer to see the armor, they were covered with gold. It had belonged to Sith troopers. Zaalbar growled at this, and threw the trooper against the wall. The other one was about to blast him but he grabbed the Sith trooper by the throat, slamming him against the ground. Mission bent down to check on the elderly, who were more than terrified at the sight of what just happened. He had taken Mission's had, bringing him up to his feet, "Thank you both"

"What was that about?" Twi'lek asked, pointing at the unconscious troopers.

"There is a patrol of troopers like them, guarding the refugee center. They are putting us to work like slaves. I escaped, and they chanced me down here, that is when your friend saved me. Thank you" he bowed to the Zaalbar, who just stood frozen like a statue.

"Do you know what they are up to?" Mission asked.

"I don't know, if anyone questions them, then they take them to the back, where they are executed"

"What about the authorities, what are they doing about this?" she asked, wondering why this isn't big news to the planet with this being the first time of hearing about it

Do you think the authorities care? They have other stuff to do, and the Hutts, and other crime bosses allow it to happen because its good for business, I am telling you its real, but no one has said anything because it's a private operation"

Mission sighed, as the old man continued to plead his case. She tossed him a couple of credits, "Go, get out of here" the old man looked at it, then at her, "You heard me go" the former slave left, leaving the two partners alone. Mission looked at Zaalbar, who had a sympathetic look on his face. Before she turned around to leave, she felt his big hand around her arm. She looked at him with a confused look, "Big Z, what are you doing?" the Wookie growled, expressing how he felt.

"Big Z its not our problem. He both agreed that our days of fighting were over" that didn't stop her friend from growling again.

Mission was stunned, "I understand how you feel about slavery, you almost were one. Your people were, but even if we do something about it, we are outnumbered. I am sorry, but I can't do this"

That is when Zaalbar announced he was planning to go through with his plan to free the refugees. Mission tilted her head, she didn't want to do this. She wanted to leave, even considered just leaving the planet and searching for a new one where she could do her work, but she moved her head down. Not wanting her friend to do this alone, she conceded, "Fine, let's do it" The two went back to their small freighter that they came in to gather their gear.

The pair walked through the gates like they were going to war. They headed to the gates of the crime lords that ran the city. Each of the two Gameroen guards flexed their weapons in pairs way, as a means to tell them they cannot pass. Zaalbar just grabbed one staff member and hit that gaurd in the head. The other tried to attack the Wookie, but Mission already stunned him with her weapon, as a means to keep it quiet. The two casually walked the halls like nothing had happened. They had made their way outside, but when the door opened they hid behind crates, so they wouldn't attract attention. Mission took out her scanners to scout the area, they saw refugees from all over being used as slaves. No one was allowed to stop what they were doing. The troopers would get on about that quickly, children were being pulled away from their parents. Those who wouldn't do what they were told were executed. From what Mission was seeing, the remnants of the Sith Empire are building an operation. She had recognized the gold armor they were wearing. Just when she put it down there was a trooper that spotted them. He lifted his blaster up demanding the two raise their hands in the air, and put down their weapons. Mission was putting down the weapon when Zaalbar took this opportunity to grab the trooper by the throat. He squeezed the life out of him until Mission stunned that trooper. Zaalbar slowly put him on the ground in a hidden place where none of the other troopers would find him. The two look at each other to figure out what they should do. Mission then comes up with an idea to sneak in enemy lines. Zaalbar protests this, but the Twi'lek decided to do it anyway. She handed her blaster and the rest of her gear to her friend before walking off.

Mission found herself in a den of refugees and left over troopers from the Sith Empire. She looked around to see where she should start trying to free the refugees. She stands, thinking where she should go until someone bumped into her, it was a Sith trooper, "What do you think you are doing?" he asked her without even asking about her outfit.

"Sorry, I got lost" she said innocently. The trooper squinted his head, being more suspicious, but he sighed, "Go west where the rest of the refugees are. Don't get lost" Mission winked at him in a thanks before walking off. The trooper watches her walk off, when the distance is enough he turns to a few of his fellow troopers before ordering them to follow her.

Mission continued making her way towards the rest side of the camp. She instantly notices there are two troopers following her. Immediately she turns towards one of the trallers she was near. The troopers that were following her went in the shadows of the two trailers, but Mission was nowhere to be found. They turn on the lights in their blasters to look for her, but they find nothing. One trooper turned around to find his target hanging on top of the roof, but before he could react, Mission dropped down, tackling the trooper. She took his blaster to shoot the other, then stunned the one she was on top of. She grabs the blaster from the side, and walks out as nothing happened. She then entered west, seeing the other refugees. They are seen stuck in the trailers cleaning it. They are women, there are even children with them. They are confused about what's going on, as they see what they think is another refugee who has a blaster by her side. Mission observes them, noticing they were hungry, and tired, not having slept in days. This gives her a sad look. At first she didn't want anything to do with rescuing the refugees, now she feels bad about it. She steps in the door before speaking, "Hey my name is Mission, I am not a refugee. Someone from here told me, and a friend about this place. I came to rescue you"

"How? We are surrounded by men with weapons" one of the refugees cried.

"Just trust me. I have fought these guys before, I can help you" Mission laid out a hand, the woman took it. The dozen women, with their children, step out, "Do any of you have any idea what the Sith Empire is planning?" Mission asked. They all looked at each other, then back at the Twi'lek, "We don't know. All we know they are setting this place up for operations. Crime lords get paid for this. They gave them this space"

Before Mission could say anything four more troopers came up, aiming their blasters at her and the rest of the refugees. Not caring who they were, the troopers demanded they go back to work or else they would all die. When they saw one of them had a blaster, they all turned their attention towards her, causing Mission to shake one point blank before running at the other. They grabbed her from the back of the shirt, throwing her against the wall. The troops proceeded to land punches and kicks on her, causing Mission to be unable to defend herself. She was held from behind while a trooper was about to finish the job until he found a hole in his chest before dropping dead. Mission on the other troopers looked and saw it was a refugee trying to help the one that rescued her and the others. Mission stepped on one of the trooper's feet before he let her go, causing her to shoot at him. The last remaining trooper wasn't sure what to do, but Mission decided to hit him on the head from behind.

"Thanks for saving my life" she told them, while the refugee helped her up.

"Of course, you freed us, now we need to find the rest of the refugees, and free them"

The group in the west sector left to help everyone else. There were two women left behind to stay with the children while finding a hiding place. Mission gave each of the women, and men that could stand on their own a blasters from the troopers that were either dead or knocked out; they then worked on freeing each refugee that was stuck in their own sectors. The party that would get larger, and larger would get the drop on their enemies. Many prisoners would help, and take their blasters. The inside of the camp would turn discord, as there would be a longitude of blaster fire all over the place after being inspired to fight back. While everyone was distracted, Mission would find a control panel where to free the doors otherwise they would be trapped. With reinforcements for the Sith Empire coming its way, after hearing the news of the outbreak. She and everyone else were getting trapped, as the rebellion continued. If it wasn't for the wall of the trailers, they would have been dead. One of Mission's companions stood out, but got shot, falling on the ground dead. Another faction of refugees would see this. One trooper pushed him aside ordering him to get back to what he was doing, but the man jumped on him. The rest of the prisoners would follow. Mission seeing this took the opportunity to run. She walked in circles until she found what she was looking for. Before she could reach the panel a trooper grabbed her by the shoulder, and threw her on the ground. This one had a gold plate, showing he was a leader. He would shoot, but Mission backflipped multiple times before hiding behind the panel. She would jump up, and kick him back before he would sweep her legs. The Commander then came on top, choking her. Mission would slowly get her blaster, and shoot him in the head, freeing her. She couldn't tell if he was alive, but didn't care, instead she went for the controls, unlocking the door.

The refugees all came in the same room, and would form a crowd around the troopers that were keeping them prisoner. The troopers didn't have time to defend themselves, as they were being slaughtered by the crowd around them.

Mission would see this, and leave, letting the two parties tear each other apart. She would walk out to see Zaalbar already fighting the troopers. He had no difficulty handling them. Either he'd shoot them, or throw them back. Mission would meet up with him after, he would tell her that the troopers came after she left an hour ago. Before any words can be exchanged members of the refugee camp came up to the duo.

"We have taken back our camp, we are free thanks to you" the men along with their companions would tell them, as a large crowd formed behind them.

"What will you do now?" Missions asked.

One of the refugees spoke, "We don't know, but we will find shelter. With the armor and weapons we took, it could be sold granting us enough money to leave this rock"

Mission, and Zaalbar looked at each other, then back at the refugees, "We are just glad to help. Anything else you need?"

They shook their heads, as the leader of the pack spoke, "No, we will be fine, thank you again" all of them would turn their backs on leave, making their way towards the place that held them prisoner.

Mission looked at Zaalbar, and smiled, "Well Big Z, you were right. This was worth it"

The Wookie roared in excitement, but they knew it wasn't over. The two would march forward, as they walked through the camp. Ignoring the ruin, the two would go inside the buildings to confront the owner of the place. They made it to the crime bosses office. He was from the planet Mon Cala. They could tell with the orange skin and tentacles. Before two of his guards reacted, Mission shot both of them. They saw, as he put his hands up in the air. Zaalbar would instantly throw him on the table, letting out a large roar.

"What do you think you are doing?" the boss demanded.

"You allowed those poor refugees taken in as slaves by the remnants of the Sith Empire, why?" Mission jumped straight to the point wanting to know. The crime boss tried to deny it, but Zaalbar's grip increased, once again unleashing a loud roar.

"Alright stop, I hired them to block off trade between the other bosses. I made an agreement with the Hutts keep supporting my business"

"What are the remnants planning?" Mission asked her next question.

"I don't know about power restoration? I have no idea, But they paid me to keep quiet I swear" Zaalbar looked at Mission. With what she saw she wanted to kill him. Her Wookie friend was willing to do that, but then her face dropped sighing, "Let him go Big Z"

Zaalbar looked at her confused and wondered why she would say that, but he listened to her, and let him go. The boss was cowardly in fear, as he was crawling. Mission walked over, and bent down towards him with a glare, "If I ever find out you are keeping refugee prisoners again, I will personally come back, and finish the job. I don't care who I have to fight, I will find you, understand that?" He shook his head in defeat before running off. Mission would watch him go before she left with Zaalbar.

The two would walk out, turning the other direction to avoid being seen from anyone else. When they got outside walking towards their freighter she stopped in her tracks. Her friend looked at her with a puzzled look before looking back at what was in front of him. Revan, and Carth were standing out in front of them. With excitement Mission ran up towards Revan, giving him a hug. Zaalbar did the same, and squeezed the life out of Carth. Carth chuckled, asking him politely to get off because of his injury without telling him.

"What are you guys doing here?" Mission asked.

Carth responded in a friendly manor, "Canderous told us you were here"

"Can is here?" Mission asked.

Carth shook his head, "On the Ebon Hawk. Its a long story, we have a problem"

"We do, as well, the Sith Empire has returned" Mission blurted out, but neither Revan or Carth were surprised, "We know that is why we need your help"

Mission, and Zaalbar looked at each other before looking back at their friends, "You can count us in"
