Chapter 90: Madam Flora
This time, it was a cloth made primarily from a silver net-like material, and Flora spun around the woman, draping her waist in the net and allowing it to flow down her gown before she put the flower on the woman's left hip and allowed it to stick there.
Flora then grabbed a beautiful veil from the side and draped it over the woman's head gently, and the woman smiled as she saw herself in the mirror.
While before the dress had been modest and very unassuming, now it was more bold and eye-catching. There was a simplicity to it that allowed the woman's beauty to shine while also giving the dress its own personality.
It was perfect.
"Thank you, Madam Flora."
The tailor waved the thanks away.
"Please, I should be thanking you. To think I could make a dress for the famous Griselda. Many men will cry themselves to sleep when your wedding is announced."
Azrael hummed internally.
No wonder she seemed so familiar!
The woman on the stool was Griselda Frieda, the famous musician demigod. She was blessed by Meret, the Egyptian god of music, and her songs have been known to give strength and vitality to everyone who listens to it.
She was so popular that the Divine Enforcers pay her hundreds of thousands of dollars every month for her to come to the various outposts and sing for the soldiers there who were fighting against the Daemons.
It's insane that he was running into her so easily.
"Oh-ho, is that you, little Cleo! Yes, it is! My goodness, look how you've grown. You're so much more beautiful than when I last saw you."
The tailor, Flora, finally caught sight of them and came over to Cleopatra with wide arms and a smile on her face. Cleopatra happily hugged the woman and allowed her to kiss her cheek in greeting.
The woman was very welcoming, and she turned to give Azrael a coy smile once she was done with her greeting.
"Oh~ and who might this be? Don't tell me you finally decided to bring a man with you after so long. I was afraid you would give your life to battle."
Flora laughed at Cleopatra's expense before she came over and gave Azrael the same greeting – a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
Azrael bore it with the silent suffering of a man who had no choice.
Cleopatra laughed along with Flora once they both saw the look on Azrael's face, and Cleopatra finally spoke.
"We have an evening ball tomorrow, I'd like you to give him something to wear. Money is no object, just give him the best."
The tailor laughed again at this and poked Cleopatra in the rib with her elbow with a knowing look.
"You're really going far for your beloved, aren't you? Haha, just like your mother. Come, I'll give you the fitting."
Flora started to lead Azrael into the shop, and Azrael simply followed after her.
As they walked, Flora realized that she had left Griselda all alone, and she started to give introductions.
"Oh, my dear Griselda. I'm terribly sorry for the lapse, I sometimes get forgetful in my old age. This here is Cleo, she is one of the most promising students at Divine Academy. I'm sure by this time next year, she'll be listening to your singing before going into the Null Zone."
Griselda smiled beautifully and shook Cleopatra's hand when she offered it.
Flora then looked up at Azrael.
"Dear, I didn't catch your name…"
"I'm Azrael. Azrael Mortis."
Azrael answered easily, and Flora took a half step back in shock.
Azrael narrowed his eyes in confusion at her reaction, but Flora was able to catch herself quickly enough, and she laughed and rearranged her hair nervously.
"I'm sorry, your name just reminds me a lot of a story I heard when I was younger. The Angel of Death and – no, sorry, I shouldn't be bringing up such a thing here. Griselda, this here is Azrael Mortis. He is Miss Cleo's intended, and I'm sure he is just as extraordinary as her father was when he came into my store years ago. Now please, come along Azrael, let me get your measurements."
Azrael was led to a stool, and Flora started to fret over him excitedly.
Behind him, Cleo watched with a small smile on her face as Azrael tried to stay still for the woman to take his measurements, and Griselda's voice brought her attention away from him and towards the other woman.
"You seem to be trying to impress him."
Griselda looked at Cleo with wisdom born from romantic experience, and Cleopatra didn't bother trying to hide her intention as she nodded.
Griselda then turned to look at Azrael for a moment before speaking.
"You should be careful when handling men in such a manner. They are a prideful bunch, so they always wish to have the chance to take care of their partner as well. Provide for him too much, and you'll eventually make him resent you."
Cleopatra's eyes narrowed at the older woman, but she didn't disregard her words.
Cleopatra just nodded in thanks before leaving Griselda to return her attention to Azrael.
Azrael, meanwhile, was already tired of the constant spinning and prodding from Flora.
Azrael's mind went back to the reaction that Flora had to his name, and Azrael wondered if there was some story out there about that name.
Should he ask her about it?
"Ah, yes, you have quite the physique, just like Cleopatra. I'm certain you're also in Divine Academy, aren't you?"
Azrael nodded, and Flora just laughed in self-accomplishment before she took a few more measurements and clapped.
"That should do it."
Flora moved away from Azrael while telling him that he was free to get down, and she dragged out a mannequin from the inner part of the store. The mannequin had a similar body structure to Azrael, and Flora put her hand out.
A fine line of bright white Essence floated out from her fingertip like a thread and slowly gravitated towards the mannequin. It wrapped itself around the legs of the mannequin, and it gradually rose along the legs, slowly forming into black cloth as it went.
Flora was a demigod blessed by the Greek god Clothos, one of the three Faes who were responsible for weaving the threads of fate, and this gave her the ability to transform her Essence into thread, which could then be used to make any attire she desired.
Her ability, at its highest level, was supposed to be able to create some of the strongest wearable artifacts that a demigod could find, but the process of creating artifacts was so draining that she decided it would be better to use her abilities to create simple, high-quality attires.
Flora smiled at her work and turned away from the still-forming clothes to talk to Cleopatra and Azrael.
"The process shouldn't take too long. If you have anything else you wish to do, then you can go ahead and finish them off. But if you want to wait, then please be my guest."
Flora pointed to the row of seats at the side, but Cleopatra shook her head and thanked Flora.
"We'll be back later to pick it up. Thank you."
