Strongest Gamer in the MCU

Chapter 15: Justice

The aftermath of the incident was resolved pretty quickly. The police were called and the NYPD showed up to take statements.

The cops told us we were lucky that they only took money and nothing worse happened to us. When my parents pointed out the bullet holes that now adorned the cigarette cabinet, even the police sergeant looked lost for words.

My father had ignored the threat from the gangster, telling the police everything that happened truthfully and in as much detail as he could remember. We were then informed that 'Los Pollo Loco', meaning the Crazy Chickens, was a small time gang operating in Brooklyn. This did little to calm my parents' nerves.

In the end, we had lost a little over a thousand dollars that had been in the cash register. The damages to the wall would cost even more to fix. But we had insurance, so our losses would be covered, even if the emotional trauma would not.

I found my mother becoming more paranoid as we were escorted back to our home by the cops, while my father looked like he was replaying the situation in his head over and over and over again, trying to figure out what he could have done better.

"You did fine, dad." Was what I wanted but could not say to him. Sure he may have lost some money, but he protected his family. And at the end of the day, that was what mattered most.

But seeing how they had been affected made my blood boil, even if [Gamer's Mind] worked overtime to temper my wrath.

If I hadn't been here, no to be more accurate, if the original Jae Sung who had not learned magic and did not have the Gamer System assisting him was here instead, what would have happened? The robbers would have killed his parents, leaving him an orphan, or if they were truly monstrous enough, they would have killed the child too to tie up any loose ends. Was that the original fate of this pitiful Lee family?

It was good that I was reborn. This thought rang in my mind. Yeah, I have the potential to do good. To change things for the better. To make the world a better place…

'And the first step to do so…' I narrowed my eyes, 'Crushing this gang.'

I slipped out of my house later that night at 12am. Before leaving, I cast another Abjuration spell that fashioned another type of barrier around my family's small apartment… just in case those goons made good on their threats. With the spell in place, they would only be able to penetrate it if they emptied an entire magazine of an assault rifle.

With that, I glided out of the window and into the dead of night. As I rose into the air under the power of my levitation spell, bright blue sigils burned into existence around me in a magic circle.

One of them, at my 4 o clock direction blazed brighter than the rest.

'So they're over there…' I thought to myself as I flew towards that direction. This was a spell that I had casted just as the shitty robbers was leaving. A tracking spell. The actual name of the spell was called 'Eye of Zephyrus'. It wasn't as omnipotent as the Eye of Agamotto, but still useful enough in these situations.

I flew at a high speed, disregarding my MP consumption. This was the extent of my desire to deliver punishment… Hm, should my hero name be The Justicar? Nah, fuck that. Only a chump would willingly be a superhero.

This was another unique aspect of my spellcasting which I had realised as I was practicing my magic. Unlike other sorcerers who could not control the power of their spells, I was perfectly capable of doing so by adjusting the input of MP into the spell.

For other sorcerers who invoked sorcery by drawing Eldritch Energy from the universe, they had to perfectly follow the spell formula which acted as a mould for the wild, chaotic energy. A slight deviation from the established formulas might either result in unpredictable effects or the spell would simply not work.

Of course, I assumed that for true Masters like The Ancient One, or Stephen Strange in the future, they would have enough knowledge and control to overlay new formulae on the spot without a moment's hesitation to adjust their spell's output.

As for me, such things weren't necessary in the first place. That was due to a two reasons:

1) The energy that fuelled my spells was entirely my own. I did not use the wild, chaotic energy from the Universe, but rather controlled and condensed mana from my own body. Thus, I had perfect control over how much mana needed to be supplied to each spell.

2) All spells that I cast were filtered through the Gamer System which applied its auto-correction accordingly based on my skill levels. The mana coursing through the spell would be amplified through the effects of my passive skills. My magic and the magic of every other being in this world were distinct from the very beginning!

As a result, a simple spell like Levitation, could transform into a spell like 'Flight' with enough mana pumped in to the arcane runes that made up the spell formula.

With a surge of mana, I blasted through the air with a determined look in my eyes as I followed the Eye of Zephyrus like it was Google Maps. In my head, all I could think about was my desire to make them pay for what they had done to my family. Was this what killing intent felt like? It was not a sentiment I had ever felt before. It was intense, yet measured as well, likely owing to [Gamer's Mind] softening the extremes of my resentment.

Suddenly, the blue fire that made up the Eye of Zephyrus navigation spell pinged softly as though to say, 'You have arrived at your destination'. I stopped in mid-air and looked down.

Brownsville. A certain neighbourhood in New York which incidentally has the highest crime rate in Brooklyn as well. Made sense that they would have returned to this wretched hive of scum and villainy.

I landed softly and silently on the roof of a building, opposite a dilapidated, 3-storey building where my tracking spell informed me my targets were in.

The range of [Detection], which had reached quite a high level now, was long enough to encompass the opposing building within its radius.

'23…' I pondered in my mind, weighing my next actions carefully and going through the spells I had available in my repertoire. A few transmutation spells to turn the foundations of the building into mud could take all of them out at once. No that's too much collateral damage, I don't know if anyone unrelated might get injured as a result. Should I get up close and personal then?
