Struggle in Ancient Times

“Father, Mother, please stop talking. It’s all my fault. It was my own idea, don’t be angry at her.” Liao Shi admitted his mistakes.
“Is it a matter of anger now? I don’t know if Liao Tingyu will be back? It’s okay if he didn’t hear the message, but he does, what would you do?” Liao Ming already vented his anger and was more clear-headed.

There was nothing mother Deng could do for now, “Why are you still kneeling there? Don’t you go and find your brother, if he got fired. You and your wife should all get out of here.”
Liao Shi helped his wife stood up with trembling hands.
Mother Deng looked at the two people cold, what do they look like? None of the elders said a word about her but she stood up on her own.

After Liao Shi left, mother Deng looked at Wen Xiuer, “Why didn’t I know you were so powerful?”
Wen Xiuer trembled with fright, “Mother…”
Mother Deng held all of her anger inside her stomach, “I let him marry a daughter-in-law to help the family. But I end up with an ancestor, didn’t I serve you well? Do you want me to bring you water or tea?”

“I didn’t, mother, I just value this baby too much. I have no other intention. Please, believe me.” Wen Xiuer explained.
“Believe you? Ha! You asked me to believe you. Why should I let you get up now? Who allowed you to stood up? After such a big mess, you wanted to pretend that nothing happened.” Mother Deng was really angry, she studied the woman in front of her carefully, “I, Deng Ying, have gone through so much from a girl to a wife and a mother-in-law. But you are the first person I have seen with a strong opinion. You encouraged my eldest son to harm his little brother. You disregard us and caused a big disaster with no regret. Why am I so blind to find a thing like you?”
Wen Xiuer tears immediately flowed down again; she knelt down on the ground.

Liao Ming stood up; he was a traditional person. What Wen Xiuer did was horrible in his eyes. He asked his wife to calm down and asked, “Is there anything we ever do to harm you?”
“No…” Wen Xiuer shook her head and sobbed.
“Then, why did you send him to the town? What did you say to him?”

“Father, I didn’t think much. When we arrived in the town yesterday, we were very happy and found a doctor in the town. He said my body might not be able to bear the pregnancy, so he…”
“Your body isn’t good? Aren’t you healthy here? You have eaten many meats in my house. Look at our neighbours, they haven’t eaten any meat for years. That child isn’t born yet, why are you clamouring? Could it be you are not suitable to eat our food and wanted more meat?” mother Deng replied sharply.
This was the funniest thing she ever heard, when she was pregnant with her first son. Let alone eating meat, there wasn’t much food to begin with. But the eldest son was born tall and strong. People who didn’t know might think he was born with plenty of food on his plate.

Wen Xiuer didn’t dare to say anything. It was her fault, because of her small desire, their family’s scholar almost ruined.

Liao Shi looked at his reflection in the water and pursed his mouth sadly. He was on the way to the town but stopped for a while.

He thought about the magnificent school and remembered his parents’ worry for his younger brother. Why is there such a big different between them?
He went to the town to find his brother, what’s wrong with that?
His brother was a student in the school and now, he was the teacher there; a scholar with great fame. How could the school casually dismiss him?
He knew it was his reckless behaviour and didn’t handle this matter with clear head. But in his parents’ eyes, anything he did was never good enough.

“It’s probably too late to go now. I’d better go back home first; my parents are still angry.” Liao Shi said while looking at the sun high above. It was already afternoon.
He thought about Wen Xiuer and their unborn child, it was better to go back and checked on them.
