Chapter 504: Going to the Killing Zone (Bonus)
Eight days after the eruption, Nathan finally emerged from his tent, looking a bit tired.
"Thank you for your hard work." Noelle was actually waiting for him outside his tent as if she was the one guarding it.
"Why are you here?" Nathan looked around. Noelle was supposed to be with the others, so why would she waste her time here?
"Don't worry. I was sparring against Selena, Sera, Alavenya, and even Flora an hour ago. All of them were busy with their own training."
"You didn't train?" Nathan raised his eyebrows.
"I practice in my mind. Sometimes, not every practice needs to be physical. Imagining a battle is also a good way to practice."
"Is that so?" Nathan thought for a moment. "Can you gather everyone here? It's time for us to hunt some aliens. The situation on the front line is not that good, right?"
"Yeah." Noelle nodded. "I will call them now."
It had been three days since Flora had arrived in their small city. The Dragon King and the mayor had been working hard to create a simple city where everyone could live.
Vivian and the others had been busy with their current projects as they kept sending more and more devices and magic weapons to the four kingdoms.
Besides, the busiest one would be Vivian since she had to travel around to complete the charging station and check all the devices they had given to ensure that they weren't misused.
On the other hand, Flora had been helping the mayor whenever she had time, which allowed the 7,000 people under the Dragon King to create this small city.
With the help of familiars, they had managed to create 300 houses in just 8 days, each of which could host at least three or four people.
Of course, Nathan already had a house for himself, considering it was one of the first houses.
He shared it with Selena, Sera, and Alavenya. For some reason, Flora ended up dragging Noelle to stay in his house even though there were no more beds as soon as she came to this place, using all kinds of excuses such as 'not wasting people's efforts in making a new house' to convince her.
Then again, Nathan had been in this tent, which was his workshop, most of the time.
It didn't take too long for Noelle to gather all the girls in front of him.
"Are we finally going to the frontline? Or more like the killing zone?" Flora asked.
"Yep." Nathan nodded. "Well, since there are six of us, I think it's good to split our group into three. This way, we can focus on killing as many aliens as possible. Besides, having too many people in the group will be suffocating."
"Eh…" Flora rolled her eyes as if she wanted to complain.
Nathan shrugged. "Anyway, it has been decided. Since Flora and Noelle are much stronger, you have to be separated."
"Then, you go with me." Flora smirked.
Nathan shook his head. "Well, I wonder if I should be the one arranging it, or should I arrange it randomly…"
Sera and Selena looked at Nathan, obviously wanting that spot. Flora was the same, but it would be impossible if Nathan was the one arranging it.
Hence, she sneakily summoned her plant spirit and formed six roots. "In that case, let's just do this. These six roots have three different sizes. Pick one to determine your group!"
Continue your journey on empire
Nathan nodded in agreement. He just picked a random root, which turned out to be the longest one. "Oh."
The others immediately picked one, including Noelle.
In the end, Flora and Alavenya got the medium size while Noelle and Sera got the short roots, leaving Nathan and Selena as the last pair.
"Tsk." Flora clicked her tongue.
"Why do you click your tongue?" Nathan sighed.
"Yeah. That's right. This is fate." Selena nodded in agreement, showing off her spot.
Sera and Flora rolled their eyes as if telling her that she was just lucky this time.
"Then again, what's the mission this time?" Alavenya asked. "Are we supposed to just kill the aliens randomly?"
"Not necessarily." Noelle shook her head. "I have been asking around. According to the current situation, there is a killing zone near Marquis Reyzar's former territory."
Nathan nodded. "You should remember Caroline, right? Her family is the protector of the north. Meanwhile, the opposite is Marquis Reyzar, who has been protecting the south.
"Although the people have been evacuated, Marquis Reyzar has been the one organizing the summoners that are hunting the aliens over there."
"Ah! You want those missions?" Flora nodded. "According to the information, there are several spots he is concerned about."
Nathan continued, "I have picked three spots. The first spot is said to contain at least 15 mature class aliens. The second spot is said to have turned into an alien nest. The exact number is unknown, but there should be at least several mature class aliens in it. They seem to be trying to create a tunnel to turn it into their own killing zone.
"The last spot is said to have a mature class mutant. These three spots will be our targets. Each group will go to their designated spot and execute the mission within the next two weeks. Even though the mission sounds simple, finishing it is a different matter."
"Indeed." Noelle nodded. "Due to the number of aliens, you have to be careful so as to not get surrounded and waste too much ena and stamina. In addition, there's a chance more aliens will be coming."
"So, which group will go to which area?" Alavenya asked.
"Since this is going to be a challenge for us to get stronger, Flora's group is lacking firepower, meaning it will be best to go to the first spot. Noelle and Sera are lacking in mass extermination skill, which means you will go to the second spot. Selena and I are all-rounders, so we will challenge the hardest one."
"Mutant?! Are you joking? Although you're strong, a mutant is different." Flora was stunned.
"Don't worry. Even if we can't defeat it, we still have the means to get away." Nathan waved his hand. "Besides, I have seen what a mutant is capable of."
He indirectly mentioned the mutant that attacked them in the mine, so Flora also knew Nathan wasn't lying.
Although a bit reluctant, she couldn't really refute Nathan's decision. Nathan didn't say it, but it had been a while since he went with Selena alone. This time, Selena had her new Multiflux Control, while Nathan had a new way to utilize the contract.
