Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 610: Killing a Grandmaster Level Summoner

"!!!" The lion was quite shocked that his summoner would be using her familiars as a shield. It was true that their strength might not be as high as theirs, but after helping her on her journey, she actually repaid them by giving them such a tragic end.

It felt like his heart was being crushed. What if he were in that position? He would regret helping his summoner.

Their summoner was good, but because of this action, he wondered if he was just a sacrificial pawn in her mind. Was the bond they had not that of a comrade but of a servant?

She was different from Nathan. Nathan had always been the first one to get injured. If there was any danger, Nathan would be the first one creating a plan that might end up harming himself in the process or making him the bait.

That was why his familiars worried about him so much. Sometimes, Fenrir or Anubis would gladly take his place.

And because of that very action, they knew Nathan wouldn't sacrifice them. In addition, Nathan added cunningness to their relationship.

It made them believe Nathan was plotting something when he asked them to stop the enemies, even if it was dangerous.

These reasons were enough for his familiars to trust him with their lives.

That was why the moment she sacrificed her own familiars to save her own life, the lion was put in a state of shock.

Even if he ignored that feeling and focused on fighting Nathan first, not only would he react a bit slower, but that doubt would plague him for the rest of the battle.

Nathan wasn't a person who would waste such a good opportunity.

Without hesitation, he leaped toward the summoner.

"!!!" As expected, the lion shook his head and brushed aside his feelings for a moment, trying to stop Nathan. He could get the answer once he was done with the battle.

However, the doubt of him surviving this battle had appeared in his mind. If his summoner was going to die, why would he help her anymore? In the end, she would just consider him and other familiars as nothing but meat shields. That was right. Meat shields. Their summoner couldn't fight, so those two words were planted in their mind much deeper than other people's familiars.

Nathan noticed that doubt and summoned his bullets. He shot all fifty bullets toward the lion.

The lion gritted his teeth, muttering inwardly, 'Summoner. Just once… tell me if what I think is not true. Just call my name or tell me to watch out. Show me you care about us, your familiars.'

But that call never came as Nathan sped up. His summoner's focus had been completely glued to Nathan that she didn't have the time to think about other things except for her own survival.

The lion was utterly disappointed in his summoner. He had been protecting her this whole time, but it turned out he was nothing but a meat shield.

The lion couldn't help but close her eyes, accepting his fate. If these bullets killed him, at the very least, it would look like he died in a battle against Nathan instead of protecting his summoner.

To his surprise, there was no pain whatsoever. It confused him so much that he subconsciously opened his eyes, wanting to figure out what had happened.

It was then he saw the bullets curve toward his summoner. The only thing he saw from Nathan was pity. Yes, his enemy actually pitied him.

"Ah…" The lion bit his lips. There were regrets on his face.

Nathan directed those bullets toward his summoner. She desperately formed a barrier to block those bullets, but to no avail.

The bullets shattered the barrier and pierced through her body, ultimately killing her.

With this, the battle had ended in Nathan's victory.

Still, the lion closed his eyes. Nathan was weaker than them, but he used his wits to force them to fight while still watching out for his familiars, significantly restricting their movements.

It was because he was able to understand the familiars so much that he could come up with this plan. Read exclusive content at My Virtual Library Empire

And that pity showed how much he sympathized with familiars. They were families, the ones they were supposed to trust their back to. And in their last moment, that trust was broken.

The lion just let out a long sigh as his body disappeared.

Nathan looked down, not even wanting to listen to the wail of the middle-aged woman.

"…" Nathan scratched the back of his head. "I wonder, is it alright to manipulate their feelings like that? This is what makes the fight against a human actually much easier for me compared to the fight against a warrior class alien.

"If my opponent is a warrior class alien, I doubt I can win, even with my familiars ganging up on him. In the end, there is no trust that can be broken, doubt that can be planted, or discord that could be sown."

Nathan turned around, walking back to Anubis. When he opened the door, Anubis looked worried as he checked his body up and down.

"Are you alright?" Anubis asked. "Your opponent is much stronger than you. I have never thought you would be able to win…"

Nathan dropped to one knee while gritting his teeth. "It's hard. I've exhausted too much ena in that fight. Maybe I should have asked Sonia to fight together instead. I only have about 15% ena left. I can probably join them for two or three more bases, but I don't think I can fight more than that."

"Considering you have fought four familiars along with their summoner… it's understandable. Though, I have to admit that woman is weaker than I originally expected, not just because of your trick, but in general."

"Yeah." Nathan sighed. "I'm going to rest for a bit. Thank you, Anubis. I know I can leave my back to you."

Anubis just smiled, knowing Nathan was talking about that last trick where he strengthened his coat. "Don't mind it. However, don't do that again. If it's not strong enough, your body can be severed in half, you know."

"I know. That's why I don't expose my back to the ox. Had he been the one to attack me, I wouldn't have survived." Nathan chuckled.
