Chapter 677: Everyone’s Schemes

The bride and groom had arrived, and the wedding officially began. To the sound of music, Capone Bege and Chiffon, arm in arm, stood beneath the flower-adorned arch.

“Chiffon! Blessings to you both!”

Big Mom’s dozens of children were present, and many of them offered their heartfelt congratulations to Charlotte Chiffon.

However, Big Mom merely snorted and let out a cold huff.

Because of her striking resemblance to Lola, who had run away from an arranged marriage, Big Mom had never liked Chiffon at all. While Katakuri and the other siblings maintained a decent relationship with Chiffon, their mother, Big Mom, blamed her entirely for the failed marriage alliance with Prince Loki of the Giants. For that reason, Big Mom constantly beat and berated her, never treating her like a true daughter.

So, even though this was Chiffon and Bege’s wedding, Big Mom’s expression remained sour. To her, Chiffon’s only remaining value was to help integrate the Fire Tank Pirates into her empire. The real reason she was hosting this tea party wedding was probably just to indulge in the delicious wedding cake…

Ian noticed Big Mom’s expression clearly, and it was no wonder Capone Bege said that Chiffon would help cover up Pudding’s involvement. It seemed even Chiffon was deeply disappointed with Big Mom.

While clapping along with the others, Katakuri was a bit puzzled. Where was Pudding? Hadn’t she been accompanying Chiffon all this time? Why hadn’t she come out with her?

Just then, a figure appeared. It was Arest, dressed in priestly robes, holding a Bible with a smile on his face as he walked down the aisle. He then took his place at the platform beneath the flowered arch.

When Ian first saw Arest, he didn’t think much of it, assuming this was just someone from the Big Mom Pirates playing the role of the officiating priest. But he soon realized something odd: not only were Big Mom’s children smiling warmly at Arest, but even Big Mom herself greeted him with a friendly smile.

“Who is that?” Ian asked Katakuri quietly.

“Oh, he’s a friend of Mama’s,” Katakuri replied. “He’s a real priest from the Church Nation. Mama invited him to officiate the wedding.”

“I see,” Ian nodded, thinking to himself that Big Mom’s ‘friends’ were probably just as shady as people like Stussy and Lu Feld.

However, at that moment, Ian noticed that Arest glanced at him briefly. Ian considered smiling back, but Arest quickly averted his gaze.

“Today, we are gathered here to witness the union of two individuals in happiness…”

Arest’s voice rang out. His tone was compelling and seemed to capture everyone’s attention, bringing the entire venue to a quiet hush as they listened.

But unbeknownst to the crowd, Arest’s mind was filled with confusion at that moment!

Caesar, who should have been bound and locked up in the bathroom, had mysteriously vanished. Arest had originally intended to search thoroughly for him, but being the officiant of the wedding left him with no time to spare.

Thus, he had no choice but to hurriedly leave his room and head to the wedding venue.

If Caesar had indeed escaped, it was only a matter of time before the Big Mom Pirates found and captured him. Arest could only hope that Caesar wouldn’t be able to identify him or Stussy. After all, they had both been masked when they captured him, so even under interrogation, Caesar wouldn’t know who had kidnapped him.

As Arest calmly continued officiating the wedding, his mind raced, trying to figure out what his next steps should be.

Had Stussy already hidden the Poneglyph rubbing in Ian’s room? As long as the Big Mom Pirates searched the guest rooms, they would definitely find that rubbing.

With this thought, Arest couldn’t help but glance over at Stussy.

However, he noticed that Stussy’s expression didn’t look good at all…

What happened? Arest felt a sinking feeling in his heart. Still, despite his confusion, he maintained his composure, continuing to play his role flawlessly, with no change in his voice as he quickly averted his gaze.

The wedding ceremony itself was brief. After the usual formalities, Capone Bege, ever the show-off, pulled out a massive diamond ring and slipped it onto Chiffon’s finger. Then, tossing aside his cigar, he grabbed Chiffon and kissed her passionately!

The sizzling sound of their kiss made Ian cringe with goosebumps.

But as he snapped back to reality, the venue erupted in applause once again, with everyone admiring Capone Bege’s boldness.

Soon after, music began to play, signaling the start of the main event. A massive wedding cake, pushed on a cart by a group of chefs, was wheeled into the wedding venue.

The guests gasped in awe. The wedding cake was enormous, towering as tall as five or six people, and the moment it appeared, its sweet fragrance filled the entire venue.

This was a masterpiece created by the chefs of the Big Mom Pirates, a truly exquisite creation. Just by looking at it, one could tell how delicious it would be, and it was no wonder Big Mom had been so eagerly anticipating it.

A dripping sound caught Ian’s attention, and when he turned to look, he saw Big Mom resting her hands on her cheeks, with her tongue hanging out as she stared greedily at the slowly approaching wedding cake. Drool was dripping from the corner of her mouth, and as it hit the ground, it sizzled, corroding the grass beneath her.

Startled, Ian quickly backed away from her!

Then he suddenly remembered the bomb Capone Bege had hidden inside the cake, and instinctively took a few more steps back, distancing himself even further. He eventually ended up standing near the table where the Vinsmoke family was seated, right beside Reiju.

Stealing a glance at Capone Bege and his Fire Tank Pirates crew, Ian noticed they were all staring intently at Big Mom, their faces filled with tension.

Ian’s keen observation led him to notice Bege’s lieutenant, Vito, the long-tongued man. One of his hands was buried in his pocket, and it hadn’t moved the entire time. Ian immediately guessed that the bomb’s detonator was likely in Vito’s hand, and that he was the one responsible for triggering the explosion…

Hoping that nothing would go wrong, Ian shifted his gaze away. However, out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly noticed something odd. At some point, the priest who had presided over the wedding, Arest, had made his way over to stand beside Stussy.

At this moment, nearly everyone’s attention was focused on the cake. Ian was one of the few who noticed Arest and Stussy interacting. Although the two were standing a bit apart, Ian could see Stussy’s lips moving slightly, as if she were whispering something to Arest.

Could it be that these two actually know each other? That doesn’t make sense. Stussy is a member of CP0, so how could she be acquainted with Arest?

As Ian puzzled over this, he noticed the two subtly drifting apart, and he quickly returned his attention to the scene at hand.

By now, the wedding cake had been pushed to the center of the venue, and Big Mom excitedly exclaimed, “Come on, come on! The tea party is starting!”

The crowd gathered a bit closer, though Capone Bege and his Fire Tank Pirates crew didn’t move, nor did Ian. In fact, Ian discreetly pulled Reiju’s hand, stepping back a little.

Reiju looked at Ian with some confusion, but he gave her a subtle signal with his eyes, indicating she should be cautious.

Ian wasn’t sure about the exact power of the bomb, but he knew that Capone Bege and his crew would wait until Big Mom had eaten the cake before detonating it. This distance should be enough to avoid the explosion’s impact.

“Mama, aren’t you going to say something before cutting the cake?” Katakuri asked, standing beside Big Mom and looking up at her.

“Mamamama! I’m very happy today, you’re all such good kids!” Big Mom was already drooling with anticipation, and barely said a few words before urging Chief Baker Streusen to hurry and cut the cake.

Streusen, the head chef, raised a long cake knife high in the air, ready to make the cut.

Capone Bege and his Fire Tank Pirates crew were watching Streusen’s every move intently, terrified that his knife might accidentally hit the bomb their boss had hidden inside the cake. Their tension was so palpable they were nearly suffocating.

Ian was also on edge. If Big Mom could successfully eat the bomb, that would be ideal. But if something went wrong, it would mean they were headed for a tough battle.

As for Arest and Stussy, neither of them had any idea about the trap hidden within the cake. Both were lost in their own thoughts, each with their own agenda.

However, just as the cake knife was about to make its first cut, a sudden commotion erupted from outside the venue!

“You can’t do this to me! I’m not a criminal!”

“Let me go!”

As soon as this voice rang out, everyone present was stunned!

Big Mom froze, surprised that someone would cause a disturbance at her wedding tea party, while Ian was shocked because he instantly recognized the voice—it was none other than Caesar!

Two others also recognized the voice—Arest and Stussy. Though they had briefly communicated earlier and knew that Caesar had escaped and would eventually be caught, they absolutely did not expect him to be captured so quickly!

In the midst of everyone’s shock, Caesar, still wearing Seastone handcuffs, was dragged into the wedding venue, noisily protesting as he was escorted by Brûlée and Amande…
