Chapter 53: Steady Steps, Bold Ambitions
At this moment, A-Shou, who had been silent until now, spoke up. "Master, I've spotted large schools of fish migrating in the Yun Cang River, just beyond the northern mountains. If we cast our nets, it should be enough to feed us…"
As everyone turned to look at him, A-Shou's voice trailed off, becoming quieter.
Ronald couldn't help but notice that the young man had grown even more handsome during their time apart. With a change of clothes, he might even pass for a delicate beauty.
"Cough. A-Shou, I leave this to you. Take a team and go fishing first thing tomorrow. Remember, this concerns the survival of tens of thousands of people. Failure is not an option!"
"Yes, Master!" A-Shou responded eagerly.
"Alright, food matters are settled for now. Let's discuss the future development of the territory. Everyone, share your thoughts."
The group of generals, all seasoned warriors, stared at each other in silence. They were fighters, not planners.
After a few moments, they spoke in unison, "We leave it to you, Young Master."
Ronald sighed, clearly exasperated. "You lot…"
"Qingyue, how many young people are there among the refugees?" he asked, turning to his advisor.
Qingyue sighed softly, her gaze distant. "Most of the refugees are young, Master. The elderly and children did not make it this far."
Ronald nodded in understanding. Fleeing for survival required strength, and only the young and strong would have survived the arduous journey.
After a moment of thought, he spoke again, his tone firm. "The base is in dire need of development. There is much to be done, and we cannot afford to engage in any further battles for the time being."
"Liu Long, your combat team is exempt from the construction efforts. Starting tomorrow, you'll lock down the entire camp. No one is allowed to leave or enter without my permission. Anyone who disobeys will face military law!"
"Also, select two thousand strong men from the refugees to form a new army. You will be in command, with Lin Chong as your deputy. Begin training them immediately, and we will form this new unit as soon as possible."
"Understood, Master!" Liu Long replied eagerly, a glint of excitement in his eyes.
"Cuihua, increase your planting team by three thousand. Expand the cultivated land by five times!"
"Right away, Master!" Cuihua answered, her resolve clear.
"Zhang Tie, I'll give you another five thousand men for the quarry. Ensure a steady supply of stone for the base!"
Zhang Tie gave a respectful salute. "You can count on me, Master!"
"A-Shou, take a thousand men from the livestock team. Go fish and catch all the fish in the nearby rivers!"
"Understood, Master." A-Shou bowed.
"A-Qiang, the remaining workers are all yours. Set aside the other projects and focus all efforts on building the civilian houses!"
"Understood!" A-Qiang responded promptly.
Once all the tasks were assigned, Ronald looked around at the gathered officers and added, "When selecting workers, try not to separate families. Any dangerous or physically demanding work should be given to the prisoners."
"As for the civilians, explain to them clearly that if they work hard, they will receive one silver coin per month. I, Ronald, will keep my word."
The group stood, all saluting in unison. "We obey, Master!"
With that, the late-night meeting ended. The decisions made would shape the territory's future development, and everyone knew the work ahead would be demanding.
"Steady progress, take it one step at a time," Ronald thought as he gave a quiet nod.
Two days later, at dawn, Ronald went on his usual morning patrol, accompanied by eight members of his elite hunter team.
Qingyue, swamped with duties, was unable to join him. Ronald had considered asking the young girl he'd saved to assist with his daily needs, but noticing how she was constantly preoccupied with her younger brother, he decided it would be best to handle things himself.
As he walked through the camp, greeting the friendly civilians, he couldn't help but notice that although the camp was still in disarray, the spirits of the people seemed high, and he felt a sense of satisfaction.
The group eventually arrived at the secret cave, where Ronald gave a nod to the hunters. Closing his eyes, he entered the "World Ring."
Upon regaining his awareness inside the ring, a system notification immediately sounded in his mind:
Ding-dong! Host's territory loyalty has surpassed 60%. Population is now 10,321. The task has been completed ahead of schedule. Would you like to claim your reward now?
