Chapter 222 - 222: Turning the Tables
Chapter 222: Chapter 222: Turning the Tables
“Wan Nianbei is dead.” Lin Miao saw Lin Shen and couldn’t hold back any longer, bursting into tears.
“What happened? I saw him a few days ago, and he was fine.” Lin Shen hurried over to comfort Lin Miao.
“Ascension failed, only this incomplete Spirit Base is left.” Lin Miao sobbed as she recounted what had happened.
“Maybe it’s fate.” Lin Shen was about to say something to console Lin Miao when Lei knocked on the door from outside.
“Master, the Wan Family people have come and would like to see you. There are a lot of them, and something seems off,” Lei said.
“What do they want?” Lin Shen couldn’t help frowning.
Wiping the tears from her face, Lin Miao stood up and said, “Regardless, they are his family. You go entertain them first. I’ll change my clothes and tidy up, then I’ll be right out.”
“Alright.” Lin Shen stood up and went to the living room first.
But as he approached the front yard, before he even entered the living room, he felt something was amiss.
Inside the yard, many of the Mutators from the Wan Family had arrived, and their posture didn’t seem like they were there to talk nicely.
Ignoring those people in the yard, as Lin Shen entered the living room, he saw a strange middle-aged man sitting in the master’s seat.
Guests are guests, no matter how important you are, unless you’re a relative or an elder, you can’t just take over as host and sit in the master’s seat. This made Lin Shen feel even worse.
“Where’s Lin Miao?” The man only saw Lin Shen enter and didn’t see Lin Miao, so he frowned and spoke immediately.
“Lin Miao is my older sister. My name is Lin Shen. May I ask your name?” Lin Shen inquired, looking at the man.
“You’re not entitled to speak here. Call Lin Miao out,” the man said, clearly having no intention of giving his name.
Even though he already recognized Lin Shen as the playboy, he hardly regarded him at all.
In the man’s view, whatever a playboy is, he’s just like a rural landlord’s son with a little bit of land, completely incomparable to a family like the Wan Family that has reached the stars.
Lin Shen was displeased, thinking, “You come to my house looking for my sister, and you act so arrogantly in my place. Who do you think you are? Is the Wan Family so great?”
“This is not the Splendid Era Base of the Wan Family, nor is it your family’s mansion. Who can speak and who can’t is not for you to decide.” Lin Shen stared coldly at the man as he spoke.
The man seemed to disdain talking to Lin Shen and glanced at a Mutator beside him.
The Mutator stepped forward and reached for Lin Shen’s head with one hand.
Lin Shen instantly drew his Angel Revolver and fired at his hand, a capsule of the mutant Black Armored Centipede shot out from the barrel, taking on a battle stance in mid-air and biting towards the hand of the Mutator.
At such a close distance and speed, the Mutator seemed to be prepared and reacted in time. A Crystal-based Carapace appeared on his palm, turning the grab into a punch, and he landed it on the mutant Black Armored Centipede, blasting it away.
The mutant Black Armored Centipede was sent flying into the yard. Its wings vibrated swiftly, allowing it to fly back.
“In the eyes of those ignorant country bumpkins, you’re some playboy, but in front of my Wan Family, you’re still just a bumpkin. Don’t test my patience, or consequences will befall your Lin Family that you can’t afford,” the man said indifferently, barely glancing at Lin Shen.
The Mutator who had blasted away the mutant Black Armored Centipede returned behind the man, not making another move.
Lin Shen turned his head to see that his older sister had arrived, which explained why the Mutator didn’t continue to attack.
“Guotao,” Lin Miao said as she entered, pulling Lin Shen behind her, and gave a junior’s greeting to the man.
“We have no particular friendship, nor are we relatives, so there’s no need for pleasantries,” Wan Guotao continued with a cold face, “The unformed Spirit Base of Nianbei is in your possession, isn’t it? That belongs to my Wan Family. Return it.”
Lin Shen could no longer stand Wan Guotao’s attitude and was about to explode, but Lin Miao held him back.
“You’re just Nianbei’s clan uncle, neither his father nor his blood uncle. Who he leaves his belongings to is his choice. Why should he give them to you?” Lin Miao demanded, looking at Wan Guotao. She would never hand over the last thing Wan Nianbei left her to anyone.
“He was a person of the Wan Family; all that he had belongs to the Wan Family. I naturally have the right to deal with it,” Wan Guotao said coldly. “My demand is out of respect for Nianbei, offering you one last shred of dignity. Don’t force me to do something that will strip you of it.”
“Do you not even spare the dead, after the living have given everything to the Wan Family?” Lin Miao’s face also began to look unsightly.
“Alive, they are the people of the Wan Family; dead, they are the ghosts of the Wan Family,” Wan Guotao said coldly. “I’ll say it one last time, return the belongings.”
“What if I don’t?” Lin Shen knew that object was Lin Miao’s last reminder of Nianbei, and with the Wan Family’s attitude, it was something they could not surrender regardless.
“Then you die.” Without any further ado, as soon as Wan Guotao finished speaking, a Mutator beside him attacked once again.
In an instant, he appeared in front of Lin Shen and threw a punch at his chest.
“Stop…” Not wanting to see Lin Shen harmed, Lin Miao was aware of the Wan Family’s powerful influence.
It didn’t matter if it was Lin Shen; even if Lin Xiangdong had destroyed the Life Bases of five Ascenders, the Wan Family didn’t take him seriously either.
Yes, the object left by Wan Nianbei was essential, but it wasn’t worth Lin Shen’s life.
But that Mutator from the Wan Family gave Lin Miao no opportunity, his punch not weakening in the slightest, carrying a terrifying sonic boom and with the force of thunder, he aimed even more ferociously at Lin Shen—determined to kill him on the spot.
Lin Shen was furious. He reached out for the Death Powder, and holding it like a long spear, he stabbed it straight at the Mutator’s fist.
“Courting death.” The Mutator’s eyes were sinister as he continued his punch at Lin Shen, completely disregarding the spear-like Death Powder.
Ah!
At the collision of the spear’s tip and the fist, the Mutator screamed in agony—his fist was actually pierced by the Death Powder.
The people of the Wan Family were all taken aback, never expecting that the gun in Lin Shen’s hand could penetrate a Crystal-based fist.
“If you can speak, then speak. If not, get lost. You’re not welcome here,” Lin Shen said to Wan Guotao with a cold stare.
“Do you really think that having a fancy Crystal Base pet makes you arrogant? Country bumpkins will always be country bumpkins.” Wan Guotao had no intention of negotiating, and with a thought, a glimmering Spirit Base sword appeared before him—it seemed like in the next instant, it would pierce through Lin Shen’s body.
“Ascenders.” Lin Shen’s expression was unchanging; he simply reached out and took Lin Miao’s hand, his gaze shifting to the other people beside Wan Guotao.
Just one Ascender was nothing in Lin Shen’s eyes, but the Wan Family had more than just one Ascender.
“Here, take it.” Lin Miao’s heart was filled with sorrow; despite her reluctance, she could do nothing but hand over the object Wan Nianbei had left her.
The dead are gone, but the living must go on.
“Too late.” Wan Guotao had no intention of sparing their lives. His Spirit Base sword turned into lightning, barrelling towards Lin Shen and Lin Miao.
But after the flash of the sword, Lin Shen and Lin Miao’s figures were no longer there.
“They had a teleporter on them?” Wan Guotao’s face slightly darkened, and confusion arose in his heart.
Teleporters that could be carried on one’s person were a rare sight on the mother planet.
