Chapter 133: Bustling Freshman Orientation Day
"Apple Inc.? I've heard of it, let me check." Qiao Ze glanced at Xu Dajiang and said before clicking open the browser and doing a search.
Xu Dajiang was somewhat puzzled. What did he mean he had heard of it? What was there to confirm?
"Oh, the Apple that sells electronic devices." Two seconds later, Qiao Ze confirmed.
Xu Dajiang more or less understood.
"No way, Qiao Ze, you didn't know what Apple Inc. does before?"
Qiao Ze said matter-of-factly, "I had heard of it but never looked into it. I've never used Apple products and I'm not interested in them."
"Hmm."
Xu Dajiang nodded; the explanation made sense. Then he looked at Li Jiangao who still seemed to be pondering something and with a pleasant expression asked, "So what are your thoughts?"
"It's meaningless," Qiao Ze answered.
Luckily Xu Dajiang was used to Qiao Ze's way of speaking, and his mind automatically filled in the subject and object.
"No, no, no, Qiao Ze, think about it this way. It's debatable whether it's meaningful for them to find you. They just want to meet with you. What happens after the meeting isn't guaranteed, right?
Plus, this scholarship might not mean much to you, but for many students at the school from not so well-off families who are willing to study hard, it's another channel of support they can strive for, wouldn't you agree?"
Qiao Ze nodded. He had to admit that Xu Dajiang's words taught him to consider the meaning from a different perspective.
"Alright, choose a time for a meal; we can meet in the campus cafeteria, just once."
"No problem, let's settle on that. Their current proposal is to only give five million a year and to spread it over four years, which of course I won't agree to. Such a big company, yet so stingy," Xu Dajiang said with a laugh.
A twenty million specialized scholarship fund could set the scholarship to be between two thousand and five thousand per semester. With the annual operating interest, it could support thousands of students for at least ten years. Definitely a multi-win move.
"That's settled then! Haha, Qiao Ze, nothing else. Btw, hand over your paper draft to me, let me have a sneak peek," Xu Dajiang said eagerly rubbing his hands together.
After all, it was a paper that could be published in Mathematics Annual, and it overlapped with his own research interests, Xu Dajiang was genuinely keen to study it.
Qiao Ze gave Xu Dajiang a quirky look, but without making any comment, he nodded, "Okay, I'll send it to your email."
The quirky look made Xu Dajiang once again feel slighted, and his self-satisfied mood faded. He promptly got up to take his leave, "Okay, I primarily came today to talk about these matters. Uh, Li Jian, are you going to stay a while longer to chat with Qiao Ze, or will you head back with me?"
"I should head back too. With the new term starting soon, I have some new ideas I want to incorporate into the lesson plans. Qiao Ze, don't overwork yourself. Try to socialize with your classmates more during the start of the term; remember to balance work and leisure," Li Jiangao said with a smile.
"Sure," Qiao Ze nodded.
...
As soon as Xu Dajiang and Li Jiangao left the laboratory building together, the former suddenly slapped his forehead, "I kept thinking there was something else, but I got distracted and forgot. Li Jian, do you think we should have Qiao Ze join the freshmen military training?"
"Ah?" Li Jiangao was also a bit stunned.
Indeed, it was quite difficult to regard Qiao Ze as just an ordinary freshman.
After some thought, Li Jian still answered, "He should join. It's a basic requirement for freshmen."
"Don't decide on your own, better ask Qiao Ze for his opinion later. Actually, now that I think about it, it's also fine if he doesn't participate. If he really does join the military training, it's us who will be bothered. I'd have to go and check on him constantly. Forget it, it's good that I forgot; let's not bring this up with Qiao Ze at all. Anyway, he's currently attending class with sophomores."
"Uhm..."
"However, he should still attend the political education classes. Last year Zhu specifically talked to me about this. He can skip the professional courses, but this one, you know. I won't talk to Qiao Ze about this though; I'll leave it to you.
Also, for the PE classes, encourage the kid to attend more; after all, health is the most important," Xu Dajiang patted Li Jiangao on the shoulder, seriously giving his advice.
"Oh, alright," Li Jian nodded.
Indeed, from undergraduate to postgraduate to doctoral studies, political education credits were needed.
"Okay then, I'll take my leave first."
Having said that, Xu Dajiang turned and left.
Li Jiangao watched the back of the dean, suddenly realizing...
The dean probably didn't forget but likely didn't want to bother Qiao Ze with these trivial matters, right?
...
For a university, the biggest event in September is the start of a new school year.
The new student registration days at Xilin University of Technology are on the 4th and 5th.
But from the 3rd, the campus had already been bustling as if celebrating a festival.
Luckily the weather was cooperative; the sunshine was warm and the clouds fluffy white. The school had cleared out the campus gymnasium, where every department had set up tables and chairs and hung banners early on.
Outside the school, as soon as a bus carrying new students stopped in front of the school's main gate square, the eagerly prepared senior students would help the freshmen complete their registration procedures.
The goal was to be as engaging as possible.
The start of the school year meant even Qiao Ze was pulled along by Su Mucheng and Zhang Zhou, who had returned to dorm number one, and Gu Zhengliang, to join in on the excitement.
For Qiao Ze, this was a first in his life.
Although there were also orientation activities in high school, they usually involved students from the second year to help out.
