Chapter 17: Chapter 17: Tony's Call – Be Careful
The two of them sat quietly in the café, waiting for the assistant to pick up tonight's news materials. The café was completely empty, with only Susan and Lin Feng present. Given the recent catastrophic disaster, the streets around them were nearly deserted. Everyone, gripped by fear, had retreated into their homes, with doors and windows tightly shut. The occasional sound of ambulances and police cars broke the silence. Meanwhile, the television was broadcasting emergency news, covering the bizarre events unfolding in the city.
Susan was using her phone to share what had just happened with her best friend, while Lin Feng gazed out the window, his thoughts drifting.
*Ding—*
The sound of a message notification snapped Lin Feng back to reality. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and saw that it was a message from Tony Stark. He opened the message, which displayed a photo—an image of the moment Lin Feng had just defeated the Abomination in outer space. The photo had clearly been taken by one of Stark Industries' satellites.
"That was fast?" Lin Feng furrowed his brow, puzzled. He had only returned from space about ten minutes ago, so how did Tony get a photo already? He couldn't help but wonder if Tony had been monitoring him all along.
Another message popped up, and Lin Feng opened it to find a call from Tony. As soon as the call connected, Tony's voice rang out, dripping with his usual teasing tone.
"Lin, did your date take you all the way to outer space? Did you prepare a special show for your little girlfriend? A Superman space battle?" Tony's voice was full of jest. "I have to say, Lin, your strength really blows my mind. You're practically a monster!"
Lin Feng chuckled lightly, though a hint of emotion flickered in his heart. "You already know about that?"
Tony answered smugly, "What can I say? Stark Industries' satellites are pretty close by."
Lin Feng raised an eyebrow. "By the way, should I thank you for not destroying my satellite?"
Tony snorted. "Oh? You're accusing me of not being good enough to you?"
"Well, you've got a point," Lin Feng said, feigning helplessness. "But today's events are certainly unforgettable!"
"You think that big guy was a surprise I set up for you?" Lin Feng teased. "No, no, no, Tony, I almost thought you were some kind of 'surprise maker'."
Tony rolled his eyes. "Bro, you're questioning my taste in surprises?!"
"Don't worry, the real surprise is waiting for you at your villa. When you take your little girlfriend back, you'll find out," Tony said with a mysterious tone, clearly intrigued by the idea of Lin Feng and Susan's "date."
Lin Feng, now curious, responded, "Wow, now I really want to know what surprise you've prepared!"
"By the way," Tony's voice suddenly became more serious, "I called to warn you—be careful with the police."
Lin Feng furrowed his brow. "The police?"
"Yeah, Stark Industries' satellites caught the whole battle, and they can see it too," Tony paused, as if weighing his words carefully. "Do you understand what I mean?"
Lin Feng's eyes narrowed slightly as he processed Tony's words. Tony continued, "Your abilities are beyond human comprehension. You're practically like an alien. The U.S. government doesn't want that kind of uncontrollable power out in the open, so they might take action."
This was the real reason Tony had called him—Tony wasn't worried about Lin Feng, but he was trying to warn him to prepare in advance.
Lin Feng nodded and said solemnly, "I understand, Tony. I'll be careful."
"As long as you know what's going on," Tony sighed. "If you need anything, don't hesitate to reach out to me."
After ending the call, a sharp gleam flashed in Lin Feng's eyes. The U.S. government? He scoffed internally, fully aware that those people weren't to be underestimated. However, conventional weapons posed no threat to him—only heavy artillery could possibly pose a challenge.
"System, come out!" Lin Feng called coldly.
"What's up? Disturbing my rest at this hour?" The system's voice was impatient.
"You actually need rest?" Lin Feng was surprised. Did this system have a sleep mode too?
"…Alright, alright, what is it?" The system responded reluctantly.
Lin Feng asked in a low voice, "Can my current body withstand a nuclear bomb?"
"As Superman, you…" The system dragged out the words, "Cannot withstand it!"
"Am I not able to withstand *your* excitement?" Lin Feng frowned. "This system of mine must really be a dog."
"Ugh, don't be so harsh, host!" The system suddenly became fawning. "If you really want to withstand a nuclear bomb, it's actually pretty simple…"
"Upgrade to Silver Superman, and you'll be fine!"
Lin Feng raised an eyebrow, intrigued, and continued to listen to the system's pitch.
"Silver Superman has incredible growth potential. Even if you upgrade now, at the early stages, you'll be completely unharmed by a nuclear explosion." The system began its sales pitch with fervor. "What do you think? Want to exchange for it?"
Silver Superman? Lin Feng's heart stirred. That sounded like an incredibly tempting option. Based on his knowledge of Superman's abilities, Silver Superman would have powers capable of breaking through time barriers, easily obliterating the entire solar system. If he could possess such abilities, he would be unstoppable.
"How many reputation points would that cost?" Lin Feng asked, already considering the idea.
"Early-stage Superman abilities require 200 million reputation points," the system replied smugly.
"That expensive?" Lin Feng couldn't help but complain. "Are you running a black market here?"
"It's not that expensive," the system argued. "Actually, you can exchange for early-stage abilities. For example, super hearing costs 10 million reputation points, and it doesn't even have growth potential."
Lin Feng was speechless. "You've listed so many abilities—why don't you give me the full list?"
"Fine, fine. Don't complain," the system said dismissively. "These abilities aren't expensive; it's just that you're poor!"
"Dog system!" Lin Feng was furious but quickly calmed himself, knowing arguing with the system would get him nowhere. Taking a deep breath, he asked, "How many reputation points do I have right now?"
"You currently have 1.98 million reputation points," the system responded.
Lin Feng looked through his reputation record. "I should have gained some reputation after defeating the Abomination tonight, right?"
"It just happened, and the news hasn't gone viral yet. You'll see the increase in a while," the system replied with a hint of helplessness.
"Seriously," Lin Feng muttered. "At this rate, how long will it take for me to become Silver Superman?"
He began to think. He needed to find a way to accumulate more reputation points, or at this pace, it would take forever to reach his goal.
