Superman Who Broke into the Marvel Multiverse

Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Loudmouth and the Plot Against Susan

Lin Feng finally had some peace and quiet, but Susan couldn't calm down at all.

She deeply regretted coming to work today. She should've listened to Lin and taken the day off to rest. Instead, here she was, at the end of the workday, and one of the office's notorious busybodies had noticed something unusual about her.

Her strange walking posture and the silver necklace glinting against her fair neck had given her away.

"Oh! My God!" The busybody's voice boomed across the office. "Susan, you're in love, aren't you?"

Damn it! Susan's heart skipped a beat.

Sure enough, within seconds, all her coworkers' eyes were on her. That damned woman! Susan barely managed to suppress the urge to slap her and forced herself to reply coldly, "Yes, so what?"

"What's so strange about that?"

"Oh, I knew it!" The busybody grinned with a face full of gossip. "That necklace—did your boyfriend give it to you? I've never seen you wear jewelry before!"

"Such a big gemstone—it must've cost a fortune!"

Susan was infuriated. Why on earth did this woman care whether she wore jewelry or not?

The busybody's deliberately loud voice carried across the office, drawing a wave of hushed murmurs.

"See? I told you! Susan definitely has a boyfriend now."

"Was it the guy who picked her up in that luxury car yesterday? Did Susan snag herself a rich guy?"

"Do you think she'll quit her job and live the life of a wealthy wife?"

"I'm so jealous! I heard the car was from Stark Industries."

"Could it be Tony Stark himself?!"

"Stop dreaming. Someone said it was a young guy. Probably Asian."

"And super handsome…"

The voices grew louder, and Susan, holding a cup of coffee, felt completely helpless.

Coworkers! If you're going to whisper, at least lower your voices!

"Oh, Susan, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to cause a scene!" The busybody finally pretended to apologize, though her expression betrayed not an ounce of remorse.

This woman had always been at odds with Susan. Susan was prettier, more successful, and maintained an air of dignity that only made others more jealous. Last time, the busybody had begged Susan to give her an exclusive photo of Superman, but Susan had coldly refused and handed the photo to a new hire instead. Ever since then, she'd harbored a grudge.

Some people are just like that. You don't have to provoke them—they simply can't stand to see you doing well.

"It's fine. Don't worry about it… Get back to work," Susan said, waving her hand in dismissal.

"Susan!" A furious roar suddenly echoed through the room, freezing everyone in their tracks.

Hearing the voice, the busybody's lips curled into a sly smile. Her mission was accomplished. She had deliberately waited until John arrived before making her move.

"Oh, my God, it's John!"

"This is going to be good."

Eager for drama, the office gossips abandoned their work and fixed their eyes on Susan's desk.

John stormed over, his face flushed with rage, his chubby cheeks trembling with each step.

He'd overheard someone say Susan had a boyfriend. Coupled with her peculiar walking style, he'd jumped to conclusions. His rage soared, as if the precious flower he'd been carefully cultivating had been plucked by someone else.

"How could you get a boyfriend?!" John roared, his face contorted in fury.

Susan instinctively took two steps back. "Are you out of your mind, John?" she snapped, caught between anger and disbelief. "What business is it of yours if I have a boyfriend?"

"You…!" John was so angry he could barely form a sentence. His face turned beet red as he pointed a trembling finger at Susan.

She's right, he thought bitterly. Why should she have to tell me?

"Have you slept with him? How could you?!" John blurted, his voice dripping with heartbreak.

"Are you accusing me of being with him for his money?!" Furious, Susan slapped him across the face with a sharp *crack*.

The office fell into stunned silence.

John stood there, dazed. It took him a moment to recover from the shock of the slap. When he finally spoke, his voice was defensive. "No, Susan, you've got it wrong—"

"Wrong about what?" Susan cut him off, trembling with anger. "I've told you before, I don't like you, John! I've rejected you clearly. I only see you as a colleague. Stop harassing me! My boyfriend won't be happy about this."

With that, she turned and walked away, her stride slightly awkward but resolute.

John was left fuming, his body trembling with rage as he glared at her retreating figure. "What are you all staring at?! Don't you have work to do?!"

The onlookers quickly buried their heads in their tasks, not daring to provoke him further.

As John stomped off to his office, his mind seethed with jealousy and hatred. "Damn it!" he hissed through gritted teeth. "That b*tch will regret this!"

###

A few minutes later, a knock sounded on John's door.

"Who is it?" he barked.

"It's me," came a sweet voice.

The door opened to reveal none other than the busybody, Flora.

"Flora?" John's expression softened slightly. Flora was one of his informants and someone he'd had several… entanglements with.

Though she wasn't particularly attractive—her face lined with crow's feet—Flora was skilled in pleasing him.

"What do you want?" John grumbled, trying to rein in his temper.

Flora sauntered over and perched on his desk, leaning forward suggestively. "I know you want to teach Susan a lesson," she said, her voice honeyed. "Don't deny it. That b*tch humiliated you!"

"Oh?" John's interest was piqued.

Flora smirked, pulling a folder from her bag and spreading its contents on the desk. "I've got a plan," she said. "A foolproof one. Want to hear it?"

"Let's hear it, then," John said, his curiosity growing.

As Flora explained her scheme, John's eyes lit up with excitement. By the time she finished, he was practically giddy.

"This is brilliant, Flora! I never knew you had such a sharp mind," he praised, his gaze fixated on the documents.

"With these pieces of evidence, that b*tch won't escape unscathed!"

Flora smiled smugly. "Susan can't beat us. Right, my dear John?"

John nodded, a sinister grin spreading across his face. "You're right. I'll talk to the higher-ups. From now on, you'll be in charge of tailing Superman."

"But first…" John's voice dropped to a murmur as he grabbed Flora's hand, pulling her closer.

Flora's eyes flickered with disgust but didn't resist.

The plot against Susan was officially underway.
