Superman's Saiyan little brother

Chapter 590: Chapter 591: Hulk's Retreat

Hearing Peter Parker's words, Robert frowned. He naturally supported the idea of Peter wanting to fight strong enemies to improve his strength, as no one understood better than Robert the concept of gaining power through intense battles. However, the problem was that Robert could sense the vast difference in strength between Peter Parker and Hulk. Even with Venom's assistance, Peter wasn't Hulk's match. In such a lopsided battle, Peter wouldn't gain much and would be in great danger.

Robert was surprised Peter could last as long as he did against Hulk. Having arrived late, Robert didn't witness Peter's fight with Hulk and wasn't aware that Venom, like Peter, was growing stronger through the battle. The Avengers, too, were unaware, as the surrounding area had turned into rubble, preventing Tony Stark from monitoring the situation.

"Are you sure?" Robert asked seriously after a brief silence.

"Yes, I've made up my mind!" Peter Parker nodded firmly, looking determined. What Robert didn't know was that this determination came more from Venom than Peter.

"I'm not satisfied! I want another round! I want to beat him senseless!" Venom raged in Peter's consciousness, unwilling to accept the outcome. Venom had seen many strong opponents before coming to Earth and had been intimidated by the likes of Robert and Clark. Knowing he couldn't resist such powerful beings, he had obediently stayed with Peter Parker, assisting with Tony Stark's research.

But facing Hulk was different. During their previous fight, Venom felt he had several chances to defeat Hulk, but Hulk kept growing stronger, eventually overwhelming Venom and Peter. This left Venom feeling incredibly frustrated.

In a way, Venom's current mindset was similar to those who had previously fought Robert. Many had seen a glimmer of hope in defeating Robert, only to be surpassed by his ever-increasing strength, leaving them both frustrated and desperate. Venom hadn't reached desperation yet, but he was certainly agitated and eager for revenge. If Robert dealt with Hulk, Venom would lose his chance to settle the score.

"Alright." Seeing Peter's expression, Robert finally nodded, deciding not to bother with Hulk anymore. After all, he had already thrown Hulk far away, giving himself some peace.

"Thank you! Spider-Man, S.H.I.E.L.D. owes you one!" Black Widow, hearing their conversation, quickly piloted her aircraft toward Hulk's location, constantly trying to contact him. "Hulk! Can you hear me? Stay where you are, I'm coming to get you. The enemy has left; you're safe now..."

Black Widow tried to locate Hulk using his earpiece, but it had been destroyed during the battle. She could only search based on the direction Hulk had flown.

"Are Saiyans so easygoing?" Meanwhile, in S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick Fury pondered upon learning that Hulk had narrowly escaped death. However, recalling the Saiyan's destructive power and near-apocalyptic battle, Fury quickly dismissed his thoughts, shaking his head.

"No, it's not that Saiyans are easygoing. The Avengers hold a high place in their regard. To them, a powerhouse like Hulk is insignificant. Killing or not killing him makes no difference to them."

"Sigh! If we had such power in S.H.I.E.L.D., we could suppress all official agencies and ensure more extraordinary events wouldn't affect ordinary people..."

Meanwhile, in a remote wilderness, Hulk lay in a crater, looking dazed. He was dirty but not seriously injured. Yet, he had no intention of getting up.

It wasn't that Hulk heard Black Widow. With his earpiece destroyed, Hulk didn't know she was searching for him. He was simply bewildered by Robert's actions. Hulk thought Robert intended to finish him off and knew he couldn't escape. This left Hulk feeling confused and fearful.

In that moment, Hulk felt as though he was back on that unforgettable night when Clark had sent him flying. Unlike that night, though, Robert seemed intent on finishing him off, and Hulk had no means of escape.

Hulk's limited intelligence failed to find a solution. Feeling his head ache from overthinking, he retreated, leaving Bruce Banner to handle everything.

"Huh? Where am I?" Bruce Banner, regaining consciousness, found himself naked and surrounded by darkness. He recognized the soil and realized he was underground, but he had no memory of how he got there.

Without memories of his time as Hulk, and with Hulk refusing to communicate, Bruce could only recall falling from the sky and hitting the ground before waking up here.

"Is this soil? Underground? Did I crash underground? Where's Hulk? How did I survive the impact?" Bruce was bewildered, unable to recall the events or understand how he had ended up there.

This situation was terrifying. It was like waking up in a strange place with no memory of how you got there, knowing your body had been through something you didn't remember. This fear was why, despite joining S.H.I.E.L.D., Bruce never gave up on ridding himself of Hulk. To Bruce, Hulk was an intruder who might one day completely take over his body, leaving Bruce's consciousness forever dormant.

"Hulk? Where are you, Hulk?" As Bruce was trying to piece things together, he heard a faint call, recognizing Black Widow's voice. He quickly shouted back, "Natasha, I'm here!"

Though unsure of what had happened, Bruce knew that getting out of the pit with Natasha's help was better than staying underground. He couldn't climb out on his own.

"Bruce?" Black Widow, after a thorough scan, found Bruce using an infrared device and quickly pulled him out with a rope.

"Natasha, what happened? How did I end up here? Wasn't I in a city before?" Bruce asked repeatedly once inside the aircraft.

"Let's head back first. Your actions are all recorded; you can watch them when we return..." Black Widow sighed, suggesting Bruce review the footage back at headquarters.

"Head back? What about the mission? Weren't we here to capture Dr. Lizard? Did we get him?" Bruce, noticing the small aircraft and seeing no third person, asked in confusion.

"The mission failed, you'll understand once we return..." Black Widow shook her head. This mission had been a significant blow to her. She had thought having Hulk would allow S.H.I.E.L.D. to dominate and capture Dr. Lizard easily.

Initially, things went as expected, with Hulk decimating the government agents. But after that, Hulk lost control, fighting Peter Parker and attracting Saiyans and Superman. Black Widow had to lower her stance and prepare for death, yet it didn't change Robert's attitude. If not for Peter's timely intervention, Black Widow and her aircraft would have been destroyed, and Hulk might not have escaped death.

This sense of helplessness wasn't new to Black Widow, but it was something she wished to avoid experiencing again. Unfortunately, such situations weren't always within her control.

Returning to S.H.I.E.L.D., Black Widow and Bruce found there were many unresolved issues, starting with Hulk's potential loss of control. Strangely, once back at headquarters, no matter how they tried, Bruce couldn't transform into Hulk again, as if Hulk had vanished.

For Bruce, this was good news. He had longed for the day he wouldn't lose control of his body or memories. However, for S.H.I.E.L.D., this was a problem. They valued Hulk's immense combat power far more than Bruce's scientific expertise.

Despite the gap between Hulk and the likes of the Saiyans or Superman, Hulk was still a significant asset for S.H.I.E.L.D. in dealing with other government agencies.

This incident seemed to end, but it was only the beginning. Many agencies began contacting S.H.I.E.L.D. regarding Dr. Lizard's whereabouts.

There are no permanent friends or enemies, and S.H.I.E.L.D. couldn't turn every agency into an enemy. After Hulk killed all the agents, these agencies assumed Dr. Lizard was in S.H.I.E.L.D.'s custody and wanted information.

However, Dr. Lizard wasn't with S.H.I.E.L.D. Nick Fury couldn't pin the blame on the Avengers or Saiyans, nor could he reveal Hulk's defeat. This would damage S.H.I.E.L.D.'s reputation, forcing Fury to hold his ground...
