Chapter 636: Chapter 636: The Power Gap
"What?!" Tony Stark, who had been conducting research, immediately became serious upon hearing JARVIS's voice. He could accept someone using the first-generation arc reactor, given that it was no longer a secret after the Ivan Vanko incident. But using his voice was a completely different matter!
"Find the source of this video and its location!" Tony Stark set aside his research and stared at the video JARVIS had displayed.
"The source and location of the video seem to be the same place: Gotham, within Wayne Enterprises' territory," JARVIS quickly reported. "The person who sent the video is also in Gotham. I'm tracking him, but he seems quite skilled at evading capture."
"Territory? Seriously, in this day and age, they still talk about territories? Wayne Enterprises hasn't progressed much. Their mindset is too outdated!" Tony Stark sneered, looking down on Wayne Enterprises for having nominal control over Gotham. He glanced at the video again and made a swift decision.
"I'll head to Gotham. Batman? I've heard of him. I don't know why Bruce allows such chaos in Gotham. Wayne Enterprises has been there for so long but can't control the crime," Tony Stark mused. "Wait a minute, I remember Batman's file. Isn't he just a regular guy using high-tech gear? What's going on here? This power... looks familiar. It's the Shadow Legion Mask's power!"
Tony Stark, now suited up in his armor, watched the video intently. His expression grew serious.
Any incident involving dimensional power required careful attention, especially the Shadow Legion from the Dark Dimension, which had caused significant casualties before. During the Shadow Soldiers' actions, many lives were lost.
Even though Tony had dealt with the Dark Dimension multiple times, he couldn't let his guard down. The Dark Dimension was unpredictable, unlike the Darkhold Dimension, whose strong beings had inherent weaknesses.
"Sir, based on the battle in the video, Batman, the Joker, and the mysterious figure in black robes all possess Shadow Legion power. However, the Joker's face only has strange makeup, not a mask," JARVIS analyzed. The Shadow Legion had appeared enough times for JARVIS to gather relevant data.
While different masks summoned different soldiers, their core power essence was the same—pure dark energy.
"Having mask power without a mask? Summon the available Avengers. We're heading to Gotham! And bring Morbius as well!" Tony Stark's face turned grim. The infringement issue was now trivial compared to the suspected mutated dimensional incident. The priority was to figure out how many Shadow Legion masks were in Gotham and how the Joker wielded dark dimension power without a mask.
"Tony?" Soon, Morbius and Martian Manhunter appeared before Tony Stark, followed by Hancock and Mary, ready to assist.
"You two still need time to fully regain your abilities. This could be a serious dimensional incident. You'll have plenty of opportunities to act," Tony Stark said, directing Hancock and Mary to wait as he flew towards Gotham with Martian Manhunter and Morbius.
Originally, Tony planned to include the Night Werewolf and other vampires and werewolves, but he decided to keep them as a backup, assessing Gotham's situation first.
The trio flew rapidly, especially with Martian Manhunter boosting their speed, knowing they were potentially facing another dimensional crisis.
Meanwhile, the Iron Man armor aiding Batman was struggling. Being remotely controlled without a human inside, it lacked the prowess of JARVIS, and Alfred's control wasn't enough against the dark-powered Joker, especially with the limited energy of the first-generation arc reactor.
"Just this crappy armor trying to stop me?" The Joker's claw tore off a piece of the armor, his expression growing more manic. He ripped out the arc reactor, showing no concern for the potential explosion.
Without the arc reactor, the armor lost power and was consumed by the Joker's dark energy, leaving no trace.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, is this Iron Man's groundbreaking invention? Doesn't seem that great," the Joker muttered disdainfully, looking at the arc reactor. Alfred, who had been controlling the armor, showed a hint of resignation.
"It's no use. The power and energy output are too weak compared to the Joker. I should have detonated it, but he dismantled it too quickly..." Alfred muttered, watching Batman struggle to gain an upper hand in the battle.
"If this keeps up, Master Wayne will end up in another brawl. I sent the video to Tony Stark's AI. Given Stark Industries' and the Avengers' stance on intellectual property, they should have noticed by now. Why aren't they here yet? Hmm? This is bad!"
Alfred's face turned pale as the Joker, holding the arc reactor, seemed to realize something. Dark energy surged into the arc reactor, making it unstable.
With the Joker's intellect, replicating the arc reactor might be challenging, but turning it into a bomb was child's play for him, being an expert in explosives.
"Yes, another Wayne Enterprises building. Perfect!" The Joker, unfazed by the arc reactor's instability, selected another Wayne property and hurled the reactor towards it.
Boom! The explosion echoed through Gotham, collapsing the building and killing more Wayne employees.
"Damn it!" Batman, battling Ra's al Ghul, noticed the explosion. His eyes flashed with anger. The Joker's actions had crossed Batman's line.
"Bruce, how about this? Give me the Icar Mask, and I'll help you take down the Joker," Ra's al Ghul proposed, knowing Batman hated the Joker more and seeing an opportunity to obtain the Icar Mask easily.
"You know what the Joker is capable of without restraint. Even if you don't care about your properties, don't you care about your employees dying because they work for Wayne Enterprises?" Ra's al Ghul pressed on, seeing Batman hesitate.
"The Icar Mask is just an extraordinary item. Is it worth more than saving your properties and employees' lives? Can't you do the math?" Ra's al Ghul urged.
Batman glared at Ra's al Ghul, about to respond when he turned and caught the Joker's punch.
"Hehe, little bat, consider this a lesson. If you let others interfere, I'll personally destroy every Wayne property and kill every employee," the Joker taunted, preferring psychological warfare over physical harm.
Indeed, while Batman and Ra's al Ghul were preoccupied, the Joker could leave and wreak havoc on Wayne properties. But the Joker enjoyed seeing Batman's turmoil as his actions inadvertently caused employee deaths.
Besides the employees killed by the arc reactor, others died from the residual energy released by Batman, the Joker, and Ra's al Ghul. Though Batman didn't intend it, the Joker wanted to see if he could maintain his composure and no-kill principle as the death toll rose.
"You circus clown, using the arc reactor as a bomb?!" Tony Stark's voice suddenly rang out. The Joker, Batman, and Ra's al Ghul turned to see Martian Manhunter arriving with Tony Stark and Morbius.
"The Avengers are here? Who are those two?" Ra's al Ghul wondered, knowing little about Martian Manhunter and Morbius. If the Avengers were present, the rest might be on their way, possibly including Superman.
"Why are the Avengers here? They never meddled in Gotham's affairs," the Joker said, eyeing Martian Manhunter and Morbius. Before he finished, Martian Manhunter vanished.
The Joker, unable to follow Martian Manhunter's movements, tensed up, dark energy swirling around him. But he was quickly subdued by Martian Manhunter, losing consciousness.
Ra's al Ghul, seeing the Joker's defeat, fled. But Morbius, almost as fast as Barry Allen, intercepted him.
Though Morbius wasn't as powerful as Martian Manhunter, Ra's al Ghul couldn't hold out long and was soon captured by Morbius.
