Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Questions
(California, San Francisco)1987 February 27th
"Honey, he's human right?" James asked worriedly as they had been doing some tests on him while he was still unconscious the entire week.
'I love my child, but I don't want some sort of monster possessing or replacing him. I know I said I would love him no matter what. I also said that we would do further testing once he woke up.' But, it's already been a week and we need to know more about how to handle this.'
"Yes, James for the tenth time our boy isn't a shapeshifter in disguise, demon, angel, dragon, or some kind of ancient god. He's just our sweet little boy." Emma said it like she was reassuring her husband, but in reality, she was just as thankful as him since her baby boy was still himself.
'He is human, but his bloodline is extremely pure and has gained some sort of purifying attributes. He has the potential to become a powerful natural witch, a shattered cursed technique, and some sort of teleportation ability. Those were just the things I could test myself with my abilities. Lucas might have even more talents.' Emma's mind wandered while trying to process all the new revelations that came out about her son.
"What about his eyes and hair? Light brown eyes turning orange, and his brown hair turning half white isn't normal either." James asked while sitting down on a nearby chair in his son's room next to the door.
"I'm not sure, but the tests show he is still our baby boy and these sudden changes are possibly just him awakening a new gift. There have been cases of similar events happening in the past, where people's hair or eyes changed colors permanently or temporarily with the arrival of a new supernatural gift." Emma replied, trying to explain what happened that day with the available information.
I guess I'm still on edge, after everything that happened that day, even a week later and I'm still struggling to process all that happened. I even had to refund the Gojo clan's down payment and pay the major cancellation fee for breaking the contract. I guess we are poor once more, as that punishment fee alone wiped out all our savings.
I guess me and Emma need to go back to hunting once more to even pay for our projects now. With our abysmal financial situation, I don't see any methods where we can instantly change it, without begging from either one of our families. I couldn't even tell the Gojo clan what happened, if we explained how we escaped we would inadvertently expose our son's gifts to the world. We can't even lie, since I know with their influence they can employ people with similar abilities to Emma in that department.
I can only hope my vague but truthful explanation didn't damage our reputation too much. I essentially said we couldn't accept it anymore due to circumstances of late, which was true, but ultimately vague enough to not give any real details on why.
"Well no matter what, we just need to train him from now on. No child of ours is going to be willfully weak without reason." James expressed his thoughts with multiple plans, and explanations to his wife talking about their son's future.
"James, you teach him your forging techniques and close combat techniques. I'll teach him everything I know about magic & monsters." Emma spoke with pride as her baby boy had even more potential than the head of her last witch coven. He might even grow to rival her grandma or even surpass her.
'Maybe my magical potions & rituals I did to myself and James over the years before our child was born enhanced our bloodlines leading to our monstrous son's potential. They said it lowered fertility to the extreme, but that wasn't the case since my son's birth proved them wrong. My cousin Ben was even shocked by my baby boy's birth for some odd reason.'
'Then again that hag was a true genius, her blood runs in both of our veins. I wonder if she sensed my son's awakening with her bullshit blood magic spells. I hope that bitch learns to keep quiet about this, we all know her friends aren't the best at keeping secrets'
James and Emma had been talking inside their son's room for the last few hours. James had already changed out the IV bags attached to his son a few times. Emma told James about Lucas's body seeking out an energy source. Them constantly replacing the magical blue fluid Emma crafted was a decent solution at the moment.
Going to the hospital would just expose their son's unique situation, causing more harm than done. They don't even have the tools available to help. If they did that would be even worse for them. Telling another hunter, witch, or person would just increase the chances of the secret getting out.
Going to the family for help was too risky, both sides of the family had too many eyes watching them. Grandpa Max and Emma's twin sister Gwen could help, but Ben attracted too much attention with his hero work over the decades, and going to them would bring too much risk.
Emma and James have both seen the darker side of the world's supernatural side. They saw firsthand how those with special powers, but no real protection in the forms of powerful families, influential friends, and powerful organizations backing them end up like. Out of every thousand cases where a loner is found with special powers 950 of them don't survive long. They are often sold to the highest bidders on the supernatural black market.
Most of the buyers of these people with special abilities are often demons or some sort of monster looking for powerful bodies. The other kind of buyers are dark witches looking for powerful slaves. Another kind of buyer tends to be those mysterious researchers who buy them to experiment on them as valuable materials.
The point is that it never ends up well for those who are discovered while weak and protectionless. The lucky ones who aren't noticed are either lucky or smart, but out of the bunch, the smart ones last the longest.
We may sell monster parts to the black market like most hunters. But we both understand by now how it all works, in these underworld marketplaces.
The main reason hunters aren't sold as well is due to 99% of hunters are literal humans with just some magical knowledge and tools. Hunters know the weaknesses of monsters, they understand how to kill them.
Most of that kind of knowledge is publicly available in these kinds of parts, so it's worthless. Most of the tools they carry are in different locations so killing them for their tools is pointless, most of the time the tools are mundane objects in the first place.
These reasons alone make it stupid to go after a hunter, you have more to lose than you might gain. Then to enter these kinds of places you must have some sort of intelligence and self-control, or else you would never make it past the gate.
It was already 2 pm and the IV bag James attached earlier was instantly devoured. Soon enough Lucas started moving his arms as he started to wake up. The moment he woke up his light brown eyes turned orange for a few seconds before turning back to normal.
Lucas looked around his bed and saw his light green bed sheets and pillows. Before long he reached under his pillow while yawning to grab a white chocolate bar he had hidden under his pillow.
He started eating it before looking around his room. His bed was in the middle of the room behind the window. All the walls were light blue and the floor was a light gray carpet, and the ceiling was gray.
To his right his dad with the bedroom door next to him. On his left, his mom sitting in his gaming chair next to his desktop gaming pc. Next to the pc laid his bookshelf full of fantasy books. In front of his bed was his closet which was full of his old and new toys his parents got him with his clothes.
"Mom, Dad you won't believe what happened in my dream last night. Oh ya why do I have this tube thing in my left arm with that metal pole thing and it's a weird empty plastic bag." Lucas's excitement was visible from his voice alone and overflowing from his body alone.
"Lucas you know we love you and you will always be my baby boy, but how much do y----," Emma said while trying to ease her way into what happened, but James wasn't that kind of man.
"Lucas, everything that happened in your dream was real. Just look at this, my boy." James said as he activated his cursed energy around his fists next to his son.
Soon enough Lucas's eyes were wide open as he saw blue flames with a pitch-black outline around them. He turned to his mother only to see she had put on some weird glasses that had the very same flames upon them.
'I guess I'm still sleeping' he thought to himself before laying back down. The moment his head met his pillow he heard his father once again.
"This isn't a dream Lucas, this is very real," James said as he lightly hit his son on the head to get him to see the truth.
"What the hell was that for man, my head freaking hurts now." Lucas said that before he opened his eyes to look around.
'I can feel things in my dreams, but never this much, it's also never painful.'
"Pain....pain...., so this isn't a dream right dad?" Lucas asked nervously as his reality was shattering before his eyes.
"Grow up Lucas, why are you freaking out at the existence of this mundane stuff when you have so much to learn." James smiled as his wife giggled at her husband's antics.
3 hours later...
"So are vampires real?"
"Yes, Lucas, how many times do I need to tell you."
"What about ummm, werewolves?"
"Yes"
"Angels?"
"Angels and demons are real too, Lucas. "
"Wow, Dad, what about the ummm, sea monsters?"
"Yes, most types of sea monsters are real."
"How about those spirit things.?"
"Spirits come in many forms and types, but they are also real."
"Mom, Dad said you are a witch, so magic is real too?"
"Is my baby boy curious about magic, don't worry I will teach you all about that later on."
"WOW, THANKS MOM YOUR BEST PARENT EVER!"
"HEY, what about you dear old pops, aren't I the best parent ever too?"
"Umm, ya you are too dad, I mean ya dad you're the best."
'What does my wife have over me that our son would love her more? Stupid magic, I also have something special. Cursed energy is just as powerful I tell you.' James thought while he held back his tears at his sudden injustice.
"Dad, what about god or gods in general, if angels and demons are real then a god of sorts must be real."
'Huh, he took the hint and realized it for himself after our afterlife talk an hour ago.'
"Yes god is real, not too sure about Jesus though, and most gods in all religions also exist."
'How can God be real when the trinity exists in Christianity? I'll ask more about that later.'
"So when you said every kind of monster with any sort of mythical figure you could think of probably exists you weren't kidding?"
"Still surprised you remembered what I said two hours ago, son. But, ya they all exist, and don't ask why it just does, your father doesn't know it all."
"Ok, but Dad, what about Bigfoot."
"Maybe...., I'm not too sure about that one. It might be another type of monster that existed and gained the title of bigfoot."
"Dad, this is getting confusing now."
" Don't worry Lucas, we all were like you when we started."
"Dad, one more question everything we just talked about exists from monsters to literal gods of legend, and most supernatural creatures exist. What about aliens? Dad, what about the creatures from outside this world or those from space."
".... Lucas stop the crazy talk already. Aliens don't exist boy. I know that might sound insane with all the things I told you exist, but from what we can gather aliens probably don't exist."
'I guess my old friend's dream of marrying an alien space princess from Star Wars died before it could sail.'
"Mom, you said you and Dad were going to train me like you 3 hours ago, right?"
"Yes, but rest up first we will train you tomorrow."
She said as she got up to make dinner before Lucas's father got up with her to help her in any way he could.
I can't wait for tomorrow, my life has finally gotten cool like those books I read. I wonder if my story was written out like a book would I be the main character?
Naaa, that's impossible. I don't even have a cheat-like power like those characters I read in the past. Where is my infinitely expanding harem of cardboard cutouts, where is my endless army of idiotic mobs that seek my death? My life got the change it needed desperately. It doesn't mean I'm the center of the world or anything, but I'm loving these changes. How arrogant do I have to be for that to be my thought process instantly?
Tomorrow is my time to shine, in a new chapter of my life. I can't wait to learn magic and be a legendary wizard like those novels I read in the past.
