Chapter 111: Accident
Back on the tour bus, Ethan lay in his bed, the phone call with Sydney still lingering in his mind. She seemed to occupy every part of his thoughts, and his fingers absentmindedly traced the music notes in his hand. He had been daydreaming about the first time they met when he looked down at the notes again, a satisfied smile spreading across his face. "Yes, this is perfect," he muttered to himself, feeling inspired.
Suddenly, the bus lurched violently, shaking uncontrollably. Ethan barely had time to react before he almost tumbled off the bed. The force of the shake sent Rebecca screaming from the living area, and then the bus collided with a car. Ethan gripped the bed railing to steady himself, managing to stay upright as the chaos unfolded around him. His heart raced as he quickly stood up, glancing around to check if he was okay.
He rushed out to check on Rebecca, who had fallen to the floor. "Rebecca! Rebecca, are you okay?" he called out, gently shaking her.
Rebecca's eyes fluttered open, disoriented at first. She scanned her surroundings before responding. "Yes, yes, I'm fine. Just a little dizzy."
Ethan's anger and concern mixed as he helped her into a chair, her balance shaky. Without wasting another second, he rushed to the driver's area. He found Jeff, the bus driver, slumped over the steering wheel, clearly knocked out from the impact. Ethan shook him gently. "Jeff! Jeff, are you okay?"
Jeff stirred, groggily waking up. He shook his head, muttering, "I'm fine, oh sorry about that, Ethan. A car just pulled up right in front of me. I had to turn like that."
Ethan let out a sigh of relief, seeing that Jeff was okay. "It's fine," he said, still visibly tense.
However, his anger soon flared up again, but this time, it was directed solely at the car that had caused all of this. He stormed out of the bus, intent on confronting whoever was responsible. Rebecca, still trying to steady herself, called out after him. "Ethan! Ethan, where are you going? Just sit down! Don't do anything!"
She tried to stand up, but her legs wobbled, and she nearly fell again. Ethan looked back at her, his expression hardening. "Just sit down, Rebecca. I'll be back soon," he said, determination in his voice.
Without another word, he headed out, ignoring her calls. The day had taken a turn, and he wasn't going to let it slide without making sure someone was held accountable
Ethan stepped out of the bus, squinting as the sharp rays of the sun hit his eyes. He quickly covered his face with his hand, momentarily blinded by the brightness. As he turned to assess the damage, his eyes fell on the wreckage: the tour bus had been totalled, driven straight into a tree that had collapsed on impact. The sight left him momentarily stunned.
Just then, a voice called out, pulling him from his thoughts. "Ethan, are you guys okay?" It was Max, rushing toward him with the rest of the band and the drivers of the other two buses.
Ethan turned to Sarah, who was coming toward him with concern in her eyes. "Please, can you go inside? Rebecca seems to have a concussion," he said, his voice strained. Then he turned to the drivers of the other buses, his expression hardening. "Jeff isn't any better either."
"Yeah, sure," came the reply, and all three of them ran inside to help.
Carlos also made his way inside to check on Rebecca. "I'll go check on Rebecca," he said, his tone serious.
Leo approached Ethan, his concern evident. "Ethan, what about you? Are you okay? Come on, let's go to our own bus. You need to lie down, and then we can take all three of you to the hospital."
Ethan didn't acknowledge him, his mind fixated on something else. He scanned the area, looking for something—or someone. Then, as if he found what he was searching for, he turned and began running in the opposite direction.
"Hey, Ethan! Ethan!" Max and Leo shouted, quickly following him.
They reached a side road, where Ethan stopped dead in his tracks. There, partially hidden by the trees, was a sports car, clearly wrecked. The car had crashed, and the sight made their hearts race as they rushed toward it.
Ethan reached the front of the car, his breath hitching in his chest as he saw the woman behind the wheel. Her head was bleeding from the impact with the steering wheel, and his anger instantly turned to concern. He rushed to open the door, with Max and Leo right behind him.
Without thinking, they pulled the door open and quickly lifted the unconscious woman, carefully laying her on the side of the road. Ethan's heart was pounding, his worry escalating. He turned to Max. "Max, go call one of the guys, tell him to bring the bus. We need to get her to the hospital, quickly," he ordered.
Max didn't hesitate. With a nod, he sprinted off to make the call.
Ethan returned to the woman, his gaze softening as he looked down at her. This was the person responsible for the crash. He couldn't help but feel conflicted. Just moments ago, he'd been ready to vent his anger, but now, with the woman laying there injured, his concern for her overpowered his frustration.
Behind him, Leo's voice broke the silence. "Oh, shit, Ethan, that's..."
