Chapter 690: The Lich Court Involvement

[Ding! You have successfully tamed your first human]

Nox slowly stood up, withdrawing his palm from the girl's forehead as the soft blue light dimmed.

Now, on her forehead was the mark of infinity, only it was barely noticeable and could easily be overlooked because of her complexion.

"Now I wait for her to wake up," he mumbled to himself as he slowly melted the frost inside her system.

With expert precision, he withdrew the little sphere from her mouth. It curled around his fingertips before he flicked it away.

Afterward, he sat patiently on a stool at the side while waiting for the red-skinned girl to wake up.

Yes, Nox hated her with passion, but at the same time, he could tell she was an important companion to have on his side.

After the taming, he was sure he would be able to get all the necessary information that he wanted.

('Then I can send her back to the capital to keep an eye on them.') he thought, a small smile tugging at the side of his lips.

In that moment, he looked like an evil mastermind.

He continued to wait. Thirty minutes flew by as though they were a couple of seconds. He slowly got bored and was about to go slap her awake when she started to stir.

He paused mid-step.

Kira's eyes twitched as they opened gradually. She sat up. There was a hole in her head.

Not literally, but that was how she felt at that moment because she couldn't remember anything.

She looked at the only person present and was, at first, confused. Why did she feel this strong urge to bow her head to this person?

Nox made a mental countdown from 5 to 0 for when she would come back to her senses.

When he reached zero, Kira felt a flood of pain hit her like a tidal wave, and she seemed to recollect everything that happened.

Her face went through various emotions in a span of minutes, and in a slightly uncertain voice, she said, "…Master."

It was only a whisper, but it echoed in the chamber louder than any scream.

Nox didn't smile. He just folded his arms and asked, "How do you feel?"

"I hate you," she said bluntly, then clenched her fists. "But I can't disobey you."

"Good." He crouched again, this time more relaxed. "We don't need to like each other, Kira. Just tell me what I need to know."

Kira's expression darkened.

'What the hell did he do to me…?' She looked at the floor, then back up, her eyes filled with confusion. This сhаptеr wаs uplоаdеd by thе tеаm аt М|VLЕМРYR.

Why was she sensing his intensions and emotions?

"…You want to know about the Flaming Rose?" she asked.

"Yes. Everything." Nox nodded, turned around, and grabbed a chair, dragging it across the stone floor before sitting in front of her.

She closed her eyes briefly as if she were debating with herself. Then she began speaking.

"…The Flaming Rose isn't just any random organization," Kira said, her tone serious. "It's a mission. A legacy passed down hundreds of years back."

Nox leaned forward slightly, resting one elbow on his knee. "Legacy?"

"Yes," she continued. "The world sees us as terrorists… assassins who target Awakened without reason. But to us, we're protectors of the true human race. Awakened are mutations. Abominations gifted power by an unknown force. We were created to erase them—before they erased the rest of us."

"So your goal," Nox said quietly, "is to eliminate all Awakened?"

"Every last one," she confirmed without hesitation. "We don't care about kingdoms. We don't care about races. Awakened, no matter the form, are our targets."

Nox narrowed his eyes. "You realize you're talking to an Awakened right now."

"I do," Kira said, her expression unreadable. "And that's the part I hate."

Nox smirked. At least she was honest.

"Tell me about your structure," he asked. "You said you were assigned numbers."

Kira nodded.

"Every operative in the Flaming Rose is assigned a code number. It's not based on birth, but merit. Strength, ruthlessness, obedience. The lower your number, the more important you are. Triple-digit agents are foot soldiers. Double digits are operatives. Single digits… are nightmares."

When Nox heard this, the name 'Number 2', which he had been constantly hearing about, appeared in his mind.

Furthermore, he had also learned how Bridget and Elvin had taken another single-digit out.

"So this No. 2 is the second-in-command, huh," he mumbled to himself.

Only a handful of single-digit agents were still alive.

The others were scattered or dead.

He leaned back.

"Then tell me, Kira…" he said with calm expresion. "What was your last missions before I tamed you?"

She hesitated. Her eyes dimmed, and her fists clenched tighter on her lap. It looked like she didn't want to say it, but the glowing brand of infinity on her forehead pulsed faintly—reminding her she had no choice.

"…It was a complete extermination order," she said slowly. "I was deployed during the Snowhelm event."

Nox's eyes flashed, but he didn't comment.

"I was meant to kill all of you on that trip—and we could have succeeded." She glanced at him with a haunted look in her eyes and added, "But she showed up."

"After the failure of the mission, I received a new directive from headquarters. I was to assume a different identity and infiltrate the Vermilion Royal Academy."

'Blake.' Nox thought, thinking back to the annoying busybody. He had always suspected there was something strange about him—hence the reason he never accepted the latter into his circle.

Kira continued, "I disguised myself as him. The real Blake had been ambushed and killed months prior. With the help of a witch from the Lich Court, I took his place, slipped into the Academy… and waited."

"Wait… did you just say the Lich Court?" Nox suddenly asked.
