Chapter 33: Chapter 33 - Inner demon
The battle that followed was no different from the one in her past life. It shook the very heavens themselves, a clash of power so fierce it could tear apart the fabric of reality.
But unlike the angry, vengeful Chen Yinyin of the past, this woman was not consumed by hatred. Her desire for revenge was sharp, but it was not her only purpose. She fought with clarity.
She struggled against Zhenwu with all her might, but in the final moments of their confrontation, she made the ultimate sacrifice.
To deliver the final blow and ensure the Ruthless Sovereign's death, she burned her sovereign soul in a blaze of unimaginable power. The price of victory was her life.
As the battle ended and her enemy lay defeated, Xie Ren was there, his presence like a shadow over her.
He held her in his arms as she took her final breath, her life slipping away.
Chen Yinyin had won her revenge, but at the cost of everything. She did not regret it, not in her heart. But as she looked up at her master for the last time, a single, bittersweet thought passed through her mind.
"Master," she whispered, her voice fading. "If there is a next life… I want to be your disciple again."
Her smile was gentle, genuine, a brilliant, fleeting light in the darkness.
And then, the world around them shifted.
Xie Ren found himself standing in the midst of a vibrant flower garden, its colors alive with life. Butterflies flitted through the air, their wings shimmering in the sunlight, while birds chirped merrily in pairs, their songs blending with the gentle rustling of leaves.
His eyes moved across the garden until they rested on a familiar figure. Standing before him was the original demonic Chen Yinyin.
She studied him for a moment before speaking.
"Master," she said, her gaze steady, "you don't belong here, do you?"
Xie Ren remained silent, his expression unreadable.
Chen Yinyin smiled softly, a smile tinged with knowing. "Master Ren, you don't have to say anything. I'm sure you're here for a reason."
She paused, then added, "Let me take you to see someone."
Without another word, she took a single step forward, and the entire scene around them shifted.
The vibrant garden dissolved into the distance, replaced by an endless stretch of grassland, green as jade, stretching as far as the eye could see.
In the distance, Xie Ren's eyes fell upon a figure seated quietly on the grass.
A young girl, her features delicate but etched with a strange, unsettling aura. Dark, ominous energy swirled around her, an aura that seemed to pulse with an unsettling, malevolent force.
Chen Yinyin, now standing beside him, chuckled softly.
"Master, don't be puzzled," she said, her tone light, but there was a deep melancholy in her eyes. "I am the Abyssal Demon Sovereign... I am also the Chen Yinyin from the past... and I am her, Chen Yinyin's inner demon."
Xie Ren's gaze flickered between the mature Chen Yinyin beside him and the demonic version of her in the distance.
The contrast was stark, one filled with strength and wisdom, the other consumed by the abyss of demonic power.
"Master," the Abyssal Demon Sovereign continued with a sly smile, "are you disappointed?"
"No," Xie Ren replied softly.
She laughed gently, the sound tinged with both sadness and understanding. "You've stayed by my side for thousands of years, yet, after all this time... you're still the same mysterious master I could never truly understand, even after becoming a sovereign."
She paused, her expression turning reflective. "Just who are you, Master?"
Xie Ren's lips curled into a small, knowing smile, but he did not respond.
"Master," the Abyssal Demon Sovereign's voice was softer now, as if she had come to terms with her own questions, "Yinyin knows you are not like other people. Your mysteries stretch far beyond what even a sovereign can perceive. But no matter who you are, you will always be my Master."
Her gaze softened, filled with gratitude and quiet sadness.
"For you, spending thousands of years with me might have been nothing more than a fleeting moment in your long, immortal life. But for me..." Her voice broke slightly. "It was my entire lifetime."
"Thank you... for staying with me… and with her." She turned her gaze toward the young Chen Yinyin, still seated in the distance, her aura swirling with darkness. "Please, Master, continue to watch over her. She is different now. She doesn't need to follow my path of vengeance any longer. Don't let the darkness cloud her heart."
Tears shimmered in the Abyssal Demon Sovereign's eyes, sliding down her delicate face like drops of pure sorrow. "It's time for me to go, Master."
Her form began to fragment, breaking apart into countless tiny white particles, each one glowing faintly as it drifted through the air.
Slowly, the particles floated toward the young Chen Yinyin, merging with her being.
The moment the white particles touched the young girl's body, the dark aura surrounding her faltered. It didn't vanish completely, but it shifted, gathering into a concentrated mass on her left side.
At the same time, a pure, golden spiritual energy began to rise on her right, its light growing brighter with each passing second.
The two opposing forces, darkness and light, struggled within her, each vying for dominance.
But soon, they reached a delicate equilibrium, a balance neither too light nor too dark. Above the young Chen Yinyin's head, a mysterious dual-colored golden core began to form, one side dark, the other pure light.
It was a rare, unprecedented sight, a symbol of the eternal conflict between light and darkness, now fused into one being.
Just as the transformation reached its climax, a sudden force rippled through the space, and Xie Ren felt himself expelled from the realm.
