Chapter 122: Chapter 122 ⤞ Stand When Everyone Cowers
With that settled, Adam began giving instructions.
"Kazuma-kun, find Wiz immediately and ask for her help with Explosion Magic to destroy the Mobile Fortress Destroyer. Also, buy every single Manatite from her Magic Shop — we'll need them all as backup!"
His thinking was simple.
If Megumin said that one or two Explosion spells couldn't break through the Mobile Fortress Destroyer's magic barrier, they'd use ten, twenty, or even thirty!
Of course, this was just a last resort. With Aqua, the 「High Priest」 and part-time Goddess of Water present, one〘Dispel〙skill should easily destroy the magic barrier.
Still, it was better to prepare for the worst. If Aqua happened to mess up, they'd be left with nothing.
"Hurry up!" he urged.
"Oh!" Kazuma responded and ran out immediately.
"The rest of us should head to the guild first — we need to discuss things with the members."
"Oh!" x3
After that, the party headed to the Adventurer's Guild.

At the guild, they found many familiar faces gathered. Bill, Taylor, Dust, Keith, Rin — none of the veteran adventurers had deserted. In fact, most people Adam knew were there.
Curiously, there were far more male adventurers than expected, and each radiated an overwhelming presence — their power evident at first glance.
Was this strange feeling just his imagination?
"Oh, if it isn't the Hero Party — you've finally arrived!"
Their eye-catching outfits drew all attention as soon as they entered the Adventurer's Guild.
"Look who's talking — haven't wet your pants in fear, have you?" Adam joked heartily with the gathering adventurers.
He had to maintain his image, so he couldn't show any signs of nervousness or fear.
Rather, it was the others who seemed uneasy, breathing sighs of relief upon seeing Adam.
However, one person stood out from the crowd. Not only did he keep his distance, but he had quite a following of his own.
— It was Kyōya Mitsurugi.
So that guy came too?
Well, that was good — he was a powerful fighter, and his presence was reassuring. It made sense that someone of his strength would have many followers.
If Adam hadn't shown up, Kyōya might have been the one everyone pinned their hopes on.
Though he'd noticed the 『Hero』 Party, his gaze remained fixed on Aqua, who stood idly to the side.
She was simply playing with a glass of water, drawing elegant pictures with it, not sparing him a glance.
This girl truly was the goddess of parties — her talents in these peculiar areas far exceeded normal people.
The guild buzzed with noise as everyone discussed how to repel or destroy the Mobile Fortress Destroyer.
Only when the guild staff cleared some space did the discussions quiet down.
"Everyone present! Thank you all very much for responding to today's emergency broadcast!"
The staff shouted their thanks and began assigning tasks to the gathered adventurers.
"Next, we will undertake an emergency quest to subjugate the Mobile Fortress Destroyer. This quest has no level or class restrictions — we hope everyone can participate. If the guild determines the quest cannot continue, we will abandon the entire town and evacuate together. You are the last line of defense for this town. We're counting on you all!"
All the parties took their seats according to the guild staff's instructions, with the 『Hero』 Party seated in the very center.
The Adventurer's Guild, though large, was packed so tightly with several hundred people that not even a drop of water could squeeze through.
"How many people are here?"
"It's alright, Megumin, don't be afraid."
The shy Megumin huddled in Darkness's embrace as she comforted her.
A guild staff member called out, "Now then, let me explain the current situation! Um... first, does anyone need me to explain what the Mobile Fortress Destroyer is?"
Five adventurers, including Kazuma, raised their hands.
The guild staff looked at him with surprise, clearly not expecting someone from the main party to be uninformed.
Kazuma, usually thick-skinned, bowed his head in shame at bringing embarrassment to the party.
Nevertheless, the guild staff proceeded with the explanation.
"The Mobile Fortress Destroyer..."
They gave a concise explanation to the uninformed about just how terrifying this approaching mobile disaster was.
The monster was so infamous that most adventurers nodded along, clearly familiar with its reputation.
Other adventurers chimed in with additional details.
"Most notable are its enormous body and movement speed! If you get caught under those lightning-fast eight legs..."
"And it maintains a constant magic barrier! With that up, magic attacks are completely useless..."
The adventurers' faces darkened at this revelation.
If magic was useless, they'd have to rely on physical attacks — but getting close meant certain death by crushing.
"And since it's a golem made entirely of magical metal, arrows just bounce off and even ballistas can't scratch it... what kind of physical attack could possibly destroy something like that?"
The previously chattering adventurers fell silent, as if the question had stolen their voices.
The atmosphere grew heavy with tension.
"Latest news! The Mobile Fortress Destroyer is advancing from the northwest, heading straight for our town! What should we do?" The guild staff delivered the scouts' report, seeking guidance from the assembled adventurers.
"What if we set a trap?" One adventurer suggested.
"Impossible! Axel has no suitable terrain, and we're out of time!"
"Then maybe we could contact the Noise Magic Empire — they created it, after all..."
"Impossible! The Magic Empire has fallen... destroyed by the very Mobile Fortress Destroyer itself." The guild staff's words crushed their last glimmer of hope.
Every creative suggestion the adventurers offered was swiftly shot down by the staff.
"Does anyone have any other ideas?"
"..."
The guild staff, having lost all hope, calmly waited for answers. But no one could offer a solution.
The Destroyer's victory seemed inevitable.
As despair settled in and some cowardly adventurers tried sneaking away from Axel, a confident, unwavering voice cut through the silence of the Adventurer's Guild.
"We, the Hero Party, will take this quest!"
"Eh?"
All eyes turned to the youth seated in the center, clad in pristine white knight's armor and wearing a cape emblazoned with his name.
— It was Adam Carter, leader of the 『Hero』 Party!
