Surprise! I've Transmigrated Again

Chapter 147: Chapter 147 ⤞ The Upward Gaze of the Inferior

"People Cannot All Be Judged the Same Way"

This was an iron rule that Subaru discovered in middle school.

{T/N: I just learned that this mtf's name is SUBARU, not NATSUKI!! I'll trash out the editor of that fucking Wiki! Now his name will be Subaru and will be it. Sorry to everyone. I hate this felling.}

Some people are born with talent. They are natural leaders, possessing the ability to win people's trust. Their strength, charisma, and adaptability are extraordinarily powerful, defying common sense.

Like his father Kenichi Natsuki, who could effortlessly overcome any difficulty, who could triumph over any crisis no matter how desperate.

Like Adam Carter, who with mere words could dispel others' ill will, who could secure alliances with the mightiest warriors with just a few sentences.

Earlier in the Assembly Hall, standing on the platform was an imposing and resolute man, radiating with intense, dazzling light!

Subaru knew he could never become someone like that.

His feelings of inferiority stemmed from his father. His father's excellence created suffocating expectations from others. So Subaru chose to run away.

This cowardly choice led him down a path of self-mockery, turning himself into a laughingstock while gradually losing his will to live.

Until Subaru met the heroine who illuminated his life — Emilia, the silver-haired half-elf!

He wanted to help her! Even if just a little bit!

For the first time, he felt the burning desire to give everything to help someone!

That's why he boldly declared himself to be her Knight — he simply wanted to help her, to bring their relationship closer. There was nothing wrong with that.

Just like the quest to gain the villagers' approval, he only needed to help her quietly.

But why? Why must someone obstruct even this small, selfish desire?!

This purple-haired bastard before him, who presents himself as an elegant noble knight, yet opposes him at every turn. Being close to Emilia is one thing, but is even this modest wish not allowed?!

— "Finest of Knights" Julius Juukulius!

You pretentious bastard! I'll definitely beat you down!

The Royal Selection ceremony officially began.

Everyone withdrew, leaving only the five Royal Candidate heirs in the hall to await further proceedings.

Adam and Reinhard walked together, leaving the Royal Selection hall, and drew close to talk.

"Hey, Reinhard, you deliberately let Felt agree to ally with Emilia, didn't you?"

"Hahaha, what are you saying? I didn't arrange anything, Adam."

Looking at his pristine smile, Adam gave a soft laugh.

"You were worried the Wise Men and ministers would make things difficult for Emilia and me later, so you approved the alliance, right?"

"No, Adam, you misunderstand. I was simply following Lady Felt's intentions."

"Is that so..."

This was just like Reinhard — the repayment had come so quickly!

While allying with Emilia had its benefits, staying neutral would have been more advantageous at this time. After all, openly allying with the 'Silver-Haired Half-Elf' would harm their standing.

Without their agreement, Emilia would have been eliminated immediately!

Adam had managed to persuade Felt to agree to the alliance under precarious circumstances, with Reinhard neither warning against it nor refusing.

Adam never saw himself as a master of persuasion, able to make everyone believe his words. Reinhard, who had observed everything, had certainly kept a clear head throughout.

Yet this man had permitted the alliance to repay him.

"Anyway, thank you, Reinhard."

"Though I don't know why you're thanking me, I'll accept your gratitude."

The two exchanged smiles.

"What's this, what's this? Why are you both smiling so happily—meow? Tell me too!" Felix clung to Reinhard coquettishly, nuzzling his shoulder like a cat.

Seeing his feminine behavior, Adam instinctively took three steps back, wanting to keep his distance.

But he bumped into someone. He quickly moved away and turned to look.

It was Aldebaran.

"Yo, brother." Al raised one arm in greeting, then patted Adam's shoulder, "You really stole the show back there, I'm so jealous. To be honest, I've wanted to do something like that for a long time, but my lady always takes the spotlight, leaving me with nothing to do."

They came closer, showing no concern about the two parties' alliance.

It was puzzling.

"Ah, about that..." Felix touched his chin thoughtfully, "Although Lady Crusch takes your alliance seriously, she doesn't think she'll lose, so she doesn't really care. Besides, I came here to gather information—meow."

Saying this, he moved close to Adam's face.

Tilting his cute face up, blinking moist and lively eyes, he asked coquettishly, "Hey, Adam~ won't you tell me about the alliance between Lady Emilia and Lady Felt?"

Ugh!

Adam couldn't help but shudder, fearfully backing away from the crossdresser in front of him.

Can't handle this, can't handle this. Scared, so scared.

"Yahaha~" Felix laughed like a little devil who had gotten his way.

"Well, my lady said the same thing." Al spoke up, "Even though I told her it was an alliance between the Sword Saint and the Madman, my lady just said 'It's just the world's strongest plus a raving lunatic, nothing to worry about' and easily dismissed it. Really, I wonder if she understands the current situation at all."

Hey! Wait! What's this 『 Madman 』 business?

Explain it properly!

As if sensing Adam's confusion, Al explained.

"Ah, you didn't know? Madman is the nickname the noble lords and knights just gave you."

"..." Adam was speechless.

"By the way, where's Julius? Where did he go?" Felix looked around for his and Reinhard's friend, but couldn't see that distinctive purple short hair and elegant figure.

"Hm? Isn't he with you?" Reinhard asked curiously, "He was walking behind us, I thought he came out with you all."

"No, I haven't seen him either." Felix shook his head, indicating he didn't know.

"Al, have you seen Subaru Natsuki?"

"Sorry, I haven't seen him either." Hearing Adam's question, Al shook his head.

Suddenly, sounds of commotion and chaos erupted from the far end of the corridor.

The four exchanged glances, all suspecting it involved the two missing people.

They hurried over to find Julius and Subaru in a heated dispute.

Realizing that words would not reach the obstinate young man before him, Julius made his decision.

"Let me teach you about reality! Follow me to the training grounds, if you dare?"

"Fine, I accept!" Subaru spat back, his face contorted with anger as he accepted the knight's challenge to a duel.

The outcome was swift.

Subaru lay defeated, blood trickling from his split forehead. His left eye had swollen shut, his cheeks were bruised, and welts covered his exposed skin.

It had been a complete defeat. His breathing techniques and sword skills proved useless; even his desperate attempts at sneak attacks and dirty tricks were easily thwarted.

Though rage still burned within him as he lay there, urging him to stand and fight again, Subaru's body had reached its limit.

"Is this the end..."

He whispered with bitter regret as consciousness slipped away from him.
