Chapter 77: Saintess of Light
Even though it was the first time for Lugh to see the woman standing behind him, he was certain that it was the future Apostle of the Demon God, the so-called ancient guide of the soon-to-be anointed Demon King.
His mind was blackened by the chill surging throughout his body as Delkira's supple yet unmerciful tainted hand thrust through his abdomen.
He could not muster a single rational thought, but it was human instinct to struggle until the very end.
"NO—!" Adelle screamed, witnessing the situation of the sole person who could possibly cure the Imperial Princess's unknown condition.
Without wasting a second, she pulled the divine weapon with an unknown name and lunged forward to save Lugh from the grasp of someone she was familiar with.
Whoosh!
It happened in almost an instant—Delkira retracted her hand and Adelle managed to take Lugh away. Unfortunately, his condition was critical.
"Why are you being emotional, Adelle? Are you his lover? Fufu." Delkira chuckled some distance away.
"SHUT YOUR MOUTH! You don't know what you've done! Do you?!" Adelle replied, and at the same time, began healing Lugh with her divine power.
Seeing this, Delkira frowned.
Adelle would not ever let her guard down, but for some reason, she was risking everything to just save this man bleeding to death.
Though such thoughts were fleeting, Delkira pulled something from the void—a black scythe known as Dying Star, a chaos weapon that's almost impossible to be normally seen in the modern era even by the high-ranking members of the Churches.
It was so black as if it resembled a black hole, not only physically but scientifically in a way that any luminous in the surroundings were flickering.
Any murmuring insects nearby lost the light from their eyes, naturally blinding them.
Any plants and trees absorbing the circulating nutrients from light via the atmosphere gradually dissipated, losing their main source of life as they rapidly dwindled into drought.
Anything that was being illuminated was absorbed by the black scythe as it revealed itself to the world.
"How dare you threaten the Abyss Lands with the Authority you've lost a long time ago? Can I take it as a declaration of war from your beloved Goddess?!"
"Do you even hear yourself, Delkira? Why do you think the Goddess allowed me to temporarily use it?!"
Adelle's gaze remained fixated on Lugh, whose consciousness teetered between life and death.
Delkira pondered, and as though something clicked in her mind, she boisterously laughed, "HAHAHA!
"The above is the personification of madness and hypocrisy. Are you saying you've threatened the entire demonkind... and perhaps those sleeping beneath the Abyss, so you can get this man's attention?! You?! You really have gone mad, Adelle—!"
[Severing of the Abyss]
Delkira cleaved her black scythe in a horizontal motion as her figure and the blade intensely vibrated, sending a wave of darkness threatening to obliterate everything in its path.
"This man—"
Adelle suddenly screamed something, which caused Delkira to doubt what her auricular sense had just heard.
Her attack dissipated mid-air; her body momentarily frozen still as her dark-crimson eyes locked onto Adelle, begging for clarity.
She then gazed at Lugh, who was slowly recovering, with questioning eyes.
However, it seemed her words, carried away by the night's serene wind, only delayed what was coming. Perhaps it even flipped the situation for the worse.
"Adelle... You really have no shame. Even after betraying everyone... You dare to spout this blasphemy?!"
Just when Delkira was about to swing the menacing scythe, the surroundings—both above and below—lit up as though the sun had risen from midnight, causing blinding rays to momentarily disrupt her... and even the one healing Lugh.
A pillar of light then shot down from the sky, revealing a feminine figure in white clothes filled with golden ornaments.
*
Damn it! Of all the deviations possible, it had to be something that could not be mend!
While Adelle was healing my wounds, even with my eyes closed, I heard everything she and Delkira had discussed, albeit vaguely and briefly. However, the problem at this moment was not exactly the two of them...
But the arrival of another powerhouse as a consequence of Adelle using something she shouldn't be able to do at this point in time...
Saintess Lumen!
The youngest Saintess of Light in recorded history.
Just as every high-ranking official of the Church of Luminary was from the Hero Bloodline as the founders of this very church since the Era of Founding Hero, Saintess Lumen of the Cindareth Family possessed a heavenly figure.
It was to the point that she had transcended being human as the closest human being to divinity.
"How filth of you to set foot in the human world, Delkira of the Eight Eternal Sinners..." Saintess Lumen strongly said before her shining sun eyes were directed at me, which prompted her to have an inexplicable expression for a moment.
Yet that glare caused chills to run down my spine as Adelle finally let go of me, knowing that I was now fully healed.
What was that? Behind those eyes... Is it wariness and wrath?!
Is it related to why I have Plunder?
Damn it!
Maybe the reason the original Lugh perished early in the original story was the fact that his survival alone would inevitably invite these kinds of circumstances.
Fuck.
"Hahaha! The Saintess is here? What a lovely night! Have you heard of the saying that unplanned things that happen are the best? This is the best example of it!" Without an ounce of hesitation, Delkira activated the innate ability contained by the Dying Star.
[Wail of the Abyss]
Cries of the damned echoed from everywhere as the ground darkened. It was as if the soil was transformed into something murky and viscous, threatening to swallow everything stepping on it.
Thousands of eyes then manifested from this darkness, followed by hands of flesh and tears of blood. It was a sight of abomination that could make any average human insane in a split second.
"RAAAHHHH—!"
"HOLY—! UNHOLY—!"
"UGHHH—!"
The wails were from unknown yet perhaps they depicted something from a distant past.
Expecting the hostile reaction, Saintess Lumen clasped her hands and slowly closed her eyes. She then prayed zealously with her dreamy voice.
"O, Benevelent Goddess and the Symbol of True Omnipotence.
"Expel the evil in this land.
"For they shall never belong to the sanctuary 'You' have built for those 'You' love!
"Your boundless protection shall never reach those who blasphemed 'Your' Holy Name.
"Amen."
A giant holy cross truly the size of a mountain—something not exaggerated—manifested behind the Saintess. An enormous lone eye above it then opened, overseeing what's below.
Hearing the Saintess' prayer, Delkira's smirk turned into something maniacal. She had lost her usual playful demeanor as her dark-crimson eyes gleamed in glistening madness and desire.
After all, facing the Saintess was no laughing matter.
She then struck the ground with the handle of the Dying Star as the [Wailing of the Abyss] was burning into oblivion.
Similar to what the Saintess did, Delkira clasped her hands and gently closed her eyes.
She then prayed.
"The Primeval Evil of Nothingness.
"Personification of Chaos.
"The Consumer of Good.
"Nemesis of Selflessness...
...
Every inch of my existence trembled at the battle between good and evil happening a mile or two away.
As soon as Saintess Lumen Sol Cindareth arrived, a confrontation with Delkira—the highest in the hierarchy among the demonkind without the Demon King's presence—was inevitable.
That's why fleeing was the right and only rational choice from that moment onwards, as I, along with Adelle, who could not care less about the two powerful figures fighting as long as I am alive for the Imperial Princess.
"I can run on my own." I couldn't help but frown as this royal knight grabbed my waist like a little child.
"..."
"Why don't you warp or something? Hey! Would you calm down?!"
"I can't warp. My power's weakened." Adelle said before putting me down.
"Yeah... And whose fault is that?"
You are so fucking dramatic that you had to do that and mess everything up!
I let out a deep sigh as I contained my thoughts. Nonetheless, even if I calmed down, the echo of Adelle's action was certainly inviting something perhaps I could not predict.
"I wouldn't ask how your territory seemed to have gone into dust. Or whatever perverted things you have done..."
"...?"
What the hell did she just say?
I couldn't believe someone who tore my abdomen just after my transmigration saved me!
"I just want you to save the Imperial Princess..."
"If you had just waited–"
"It has to happen as soon as possible!"
I clenched my fists. Looking at her while the surroundings behind us were being obliterated into nothingness, I asked,
"Do you have any idea of what you're asking?"
Just so you know, I've heard what you've told Delkira when you were healing me and thought I was unconscious.
"Yes, whatever condition it is... Please [Plunder] the Imperial Princess' detrimental [Incomplete Talent]."
