Sweet Revenge With My Billionaire Vampire

Chapter 5: His Mate 05

Enzo's eyes twitched, his irritation briefly replaced by confusion. "Who the hell is that?" he muttered to himself.

"Should I get out and ask her to move, my liege?" Andrei asked.

Enzo rolled his eyes and scoffed. "No, just honk the damn horn. She'll move."

Andrei obeyed, pressing the horn. The sound blared through the quiet street, but Adeline didn't flinch or move. She just stood there, staring at the car with an unfocused gaze.

Andrei paused, glancing back at Enzo. "My liege, she doesn't look well."

Enzo snapped his fingers, silencing him. "I'll handle this." He reached for the handle, opened the car door, and stepped out. He adjusted his coat and walked around to the front of the vehicle while she simply stood there, staring directly at him now.

Up close, Enzo could see the exhaustion on her face and the pale color of her skin. She looked like she was on the verge of collapse. Stopping a few feet away from Adeline, he placed his hands into his pockets and tilted his head slightly. "Listen, I don't know what you're doing, but we're trying to pass. If you could kindly just step out of the way, that would be great."

Adeline didn't respond. She continued to stare at him with her lips parted slightly as if she wanted to say something but couldn't find the words. Her vision was spinning now, the edges of her sight fading to black. The pain in her arm and the blood loss were finally taking their toll.

"Fantastic," he muttered, his hand reaching up and brushing his hair out of his face. "Are you deaf, or are you—"

Before he could finish his sentence, Adeline's knees buckled, and her body crumpled to the ground. Enzo reacted instinctively, lunging forward with the speed of light and catching her just before her head hit the pavement.

His eyes scanned her bleeding arm before shifting up to her face. He reached out his free hand and gently brushed a strand of hair away from her cheek.

"What a beautiful thing," he murmured softly. His gaze lingered on her for a moment before drifting to the wound on her arm again. He bit his lips as he reached out, carefully lifting her arm by the wrist to examine it more closely.

A droplet of her warm blood slid down her arm and landed on his skin. The moment it touched him, something in him shifted, and he froze. A strange warmth spread through his chest, seeping into the cold void where his heart had rested dormant for centuries. His breath caught in his throat as he instinctively released her arm, clutching his chest in disbelief.

His heart...was beating. Beneath his palm, he could feel the rhythmic pounding of a heartbeat, a sound he had never heard before.

Vampires didn't feel warmth, and their hearts didn't beat unless they found their mate. His eyes widened briefly as realization dawned on him. This wasn't just any woman. His lips curved into a smirk, his fangs briefly grazing his bottom lip as he chuckled.

"Well, I always knew I'd eventually find my mate, but I certainly wasn't expecting it to happen like this. Interesting."

Enzo's gaze returned to Adeline's unconscious face, and gently, he slid his arms beneath her, lifting her. She weighed nothing to him, her fragile body fitting perfectly in his arms. The scent of her blood filled his senses, intoxicating but oddly calming. Carrying her in a bridal style, he strode toward the car.

Andrei finally stepped down and approached Enzo, his eyes wide with confusion. "My liege, is she—"

"Alive," Enzo cut him off. "Open the door."

Andrei nodded frantically and rushed towards the car. As he opened the back door, Enzo leaned in and carefully placed her across the seat, adjusting her so she would be as comfortable as possible. Without hesitation, he pulled back and closed the door before circling the car.

He opened the door and slid into the seat beside her. "Andrei," he called as the driver climbed back into his seat. "Drive."

Andrei hesitated briefly, his eyes flicking to Adeline's unconscious form in the rearview mirror before darting back to the road. Without a word, he started the car and drove off.

---

Several blocks away, the man who had attacked Adeline stood at the edge of the path he had taken, watching the slightly busy road. He growled under his breath, glancing around to see if he would spot Adeline, but she was nowhere to be found.

Yanking off the mask that had concealed his face, he threw it to the ground, his gun following shortly after. His face twisted into a snarl, and his hands clenched into fists. "Damn it! She must've gone the other way."

He angrily kicked the dirt beneath him, trying to shake off the sting of his failure. He couldn't afford to let her escape, not when he'd come so close to finishing the job.

His feet stomped against the gravel as he retrieved the gun he had discarded in his anger. Checking the chamber to ensure it was loaded, he muttered curses under his breath. He glanced once more at the road ahead of him before turning on his heel and heading back.

----

12 Hours Later.

Adeline's eyes fluttered open, her vision blurred as the morning light seeped into the unfamiliar room. She blinked a few times, her surroundings gradually coming into focus. The room was massive, with walls painted in a deep black with streaks of gold. She shifted slightly and felt the softness beneath her, realizing she was lying on a king-sized bed.

She sat up gingerly, the ache in her arm reminding her of her injury. A sharp twinge made her hiss, and she turned her head to see the bandages wrapped neatly around her arm. The memories of the night before came flooding back, but the details were hazy and disjointed.

"Where am I?" she murmured to herself, scanning the room again.

Pushing the blankets aside, she swung her legs over the edge of the bed. The soft blanket slipped from her shoulders, and she froze. She wasn't wearing her clothes from last night anymore. Instead, she was dressed in a black, baggy sweatpant and a sleeveless shirt, both far too big for her small frame.

A short gasp escaped her lips as she began patting herself down with her uninjured hand."What...?" she murmured, her cheeks flushed in embarrassment at the realization. "This isn't what I was wearing... Who changed me?"
