Chapter 62: Adventurer's Guild
"We need to find a healer," said Noemi. "Health Potions are fine and all, but they're not sustainable. Especially when you're fighting in the front lines as a Tank..."
"You're right," said Boran, nodding. "So... where do we start looking?"
Noemi looked around. "That woman over there looks like a healer. Should we ask? Maybe she can help."
When Boran turned to look, he saw a woman standing by the road. She wore a light blue robe with intricate embroidery. The edges of the robe were decorated with silver symbols. At their waist was a belt adorned with crystals, and in their hand, they held a long staff with a blue stone at its tip. Around her neck was a bright necklace - the crystal in its center pulsed with a gentle glow.
"Excuse me," said Noemi, approaching the woman. "Are you a healer?"
The woman smiled. She had delicate features and a gentle expression. "Yes, I am. How can I help you?"
"We... um... we're looking for a healer for our group," said Boran. "Would you be interested?"
The woman smiled but shook her head. "Ah, I'm sorry. I already have a group. But..." She paused. "Have you been to the Adventurer's Guild?"
Boran and Noemi looked at each other. "Adventurer's Guild?" asked Noemi.
"Yes," said the woman. "There's a large gateway in the center of the Hub. It's two blocks behind the Infinite Tavern. They have special quests posted by adventurers themselves, special boards - for people looking for groups, for people looking for healers like yourselves, for those wanting to form raid groups... Everything is very organized. You should go there."
"Really?" said Boran.
The woman nodded understandingly. "Most new adventurers don't know about it. But that's exactly why the Guild exists - to bring adventurers together. Let me give you exact directions..."
The woman gave them directions while Boran and Noemi listened carefully.
"And remember," the woman said finally, "when you go in, visit the information desk on the right. They'll guide you. Finding a healer might be difficult - they're the most sought-after class. But be patient, you'll find one."
"Thank you," said Noemi sincerely. "This information was very helpful."
Boran and Noemi began walking in the direction the woman had described. The Hub's center was crowded as usual.
"There it is!" said Noemi, pointing to a large stone gateway. Above the gateway, "Adventurer's Guild" was written in golden letters. On either side of the gateway stood statues holding swords.
When they passed through the gateway, they found themselves in a spacious hall. The ceiling was high, and enormous windows along the walls illuminated the interior. Different activities caught the eye in every corner of the hall - in one corner was a large board covered in countless notices, in another corner adventurers sat at tables chatting, while others were checking their equipment.
"Information desk..." muttered Boran, looking around. On the right, they saw a wide desk with a crystal orb on it. Behind the desk sat a middle-aged man wearing glasses.
"Welcome!" said the man as Boran and Noemi approached. "Is this your first time at the Adventurer's Guild?"
"Yes," said Noemi. "Could you help us a bit?"
"Of course!" The man stood up and touched the crystal orb on his desk. The orb glowed with a bluish light. "I'm Archivist Marcus. Let me give you a brief overview of the Guild. This is a center that brings adventurers together and provides a safe environment."
Marcus gestured to different sections of the hall. "You have two important boards - the Quest Board for official and private quests, and the Team Board for those looking for groups. Official quests provide gold and reputation points. Private quests can vary in rewards. These are quests posted by adventurers like yourselves."
"Membership is free but mandatory," he continued. "Because we verify every member's true level and abilities with a special spell. This way, no one can provide false information. We give you a Guild Card - with this card you can access all our systems."
"Members also have access to training areas and the library. The membership process takes about half an hour—you just need to fill out a form and get your Guild Card."
"But we already have a Guild. Won't that be a problem?"
"Ah, yes!" said Marcus. "You've raised an important point. This is an independent organization. So adventurers who are members of other guilds can use our system too. Usually, adventurers from other Guilds use this place to recruit people to their own guilds. But mostly they're looking for teammates. What you do with it is up to you, of course."
"Well..." said Boran, with a thoughtful expression. "Then let's register."
"Excellent!" said Marcus enthusiastically. He pulled out two forms and placed them in front of them. "You'll need to fill out these forms. Meanwhile, I'll talk to our mage."
Marcus left the desk and entered one of the back rooms. Boran and Noemi were left alone, beginning to examine the forms in front of them.
"Look at these questions..." said Noemi, reading the form. "Primary weapon preference, secondary weapon preference, preferred combat style, specialized abilities... They're asking for quite a lot of detail."
Boran nodded. "Makes sense really. People will search based on this information when looking for a group."
"Still..." Noemi hesitated. "By doing something this formal, it feels like we're limiting our freedom somehow."
Boran picked up the pen and started filling out the form. "I understand what you mean. I thought the same at first. But if we want to find team members easily, this is the right place."
"You're right..." said Noemi, sighing. "And like Marcus said, it's not a problem that we're members of another guild. We can just use this place as a tool."
"Exactly," said Boran.
Noemi started filling out her own form. "What about the questions? For example, here it asks - 'Preferred quest types?' What should we write?"
"Hmm..." Boran thought. "We can write 'boss battles.' Let's add 'dungeon exploring' too—we're better prepared for those now anyway."
"What about this question?" Noemi said with a laugh. "'Your greatest adventure achievement?' Should we write that we killed The Valley Reaper?"
Boran smiled. "Write it, of course. Taking down that creature wasn't a small achievement. At least not for us. It was the highest-level creature we've killed."
The pair grew quiet as they filled out the forms. Occasionally they would look at each other and smile, sometimes making brief comments about questions that surprised them.
They were just about to finish the forms when Marcus returned. He had two small crystals in his hand. "How's it going?" he asked with a smile.
"Done," said Noemi, answering the last question.
"Great!" Marcus sat at his desk. "Now I'll prepare your Guild Cards. These crystals will measure your abilities. Please, each of you touch one."
Boran and Noemi touched the crystals. While Noemi's crystal glowed in succession with blue, green, and gold colors, Boran's remained stuck on blue. Marcus furrowed his brow.
"Interesting," said Marcus, carefully examining the crystals. "It seems our system can't read some of your attributes."
Marcus pulled out a different crystal from under his desk, this time a purple one. "Let's try this one," he said, extending the crystal to Boran. But the result was the same - the crystal remained blue.
"Very strange," muttered Marcus, adjusting his glasses. "I've only encountered something like this three times. Those three people were here three years ago."
Marcus pulled out two blank cards from under his desk. The cards were silver-colored and had complex patterns on them. "Well, in this case, we'll need to use a slightly different method. I can prepare Noemi's card normally, but I'll need to configure Boran's manually."
Marcus first brought Noemi's crystal close to her card and muttered something. The card lit up with a bright light. Then he took Boran's card. "Since the system can't measure, tell me your class and abilities," he said. As he wrote down Boran's answers on the card with his magic, he occasionally nodded. Finally, he ran his fingers over the card and muttered a short spell. The card glowed with a faint light. When he finished, he handed them their cards.
Boran examined his card. "So what should we do now?"
"My advice is to check the Team Board first," said Marcus, still looking thoughtful. "You'll see notices from people looking for groups there. Or you can post your own notice. Also, there might be quests that interest you on the Quest Board."
Marcus stood up. "I need to help another member now. But if you have any questions, you can ask me or other Guild officials. And Boran... if you'd like, we can examine this interesting situation in more detail. There might be an explanation for it."
