Chapter 16: Chapter 14: A Game of Power
Sabrina had never felt time slipping through her fingers so fast. Twenty-four hours to prove her innocence. Twenty-four hours to outsmart a man who had been playing corporate mind games for years.
She needed to think like Damian.
And if there was one thing men like him loved, it was their ego.
She spent the next two hours combing through IT records, surveillance footage, and emails, but whoever had done this had covered their tracks well. Too well.
Which meant there was only one option left.
She had to trap Damian into confessing.
The rooftop lounge of The Sterling was the kind of place where powerful men celebrated their victories with expensive whiskey and even more expensive company.
Sabrina came inside, her black dress hugging her figure just enough to make heads turn.
She spotted Damian near the bar, laughing with two other executives.
Perfect.
She grabbed a glass of wine from a passing waiter and approached, her movements slow, confident. When Damian noticed her, he smirked.
"Sabrina," he drawled, dismissing his companions with a glance. "Didn't expect to see you here."
She tilted her head. "I needed a drink. And maybe a bit of advice."
Damian raised an eyebrow. "Advice?"
Sabrina leaned in slightly, lowering her voice. "Let's not play games. We both know Nathaniel is unpredictable. And if he turns on me, I'll need someone else to back me."
Damian studied her for a long moment, then chuckled. "You're smarter than I thought."
Sabrina smiled. "I learn fast."
He took a slow sip of his drink, then said, "Maybe you should be working for me instead."
Gotcha.
She feigned curiosity. "And how would I do that?"
Damian smirked. "It's simple. Nathaniel's trust in you is already broken. I just gave it a little push."
Sabrina felt her pulse spike, but she forced herself to keep her expression neutral. "So you did set me up."
Damian shrugged, unbothered. "It's business, Sabrina. And business is about survival."
She exhaled a soft laugh. "And what happens when Nathaniel finds out?"
Damian leaned in, his breath brushing her ear. "By the time he does, it'll be too late."
Sabrina smiled. "We'll see about that."
Then, she tapped her phone screen—stopping the recording.
Damian's face fell as he realized what just happened.
Sabrina stepped back, holding up her phone. "Thanks for the confession, Damian. I'll be sure to forward it to Nathaniel."
For the first time, he was the one caught off guard.
And Sabrina?
She had just won the game.
