The chemistry lab fell silent, the only sound the ragged breathing of everyone huddled inside.

I glanced at Tara, her expression unreadable, though the tension in her posture betrayed her unease. Her grip on the knife was unwavering, and her eyes flickered between the door and our new guests like she was calculating every possible outcome.

Jackson broke the silence first. "What the hell are you doing standing there with that knife?"

His voice was sharp, filled with irritation, but underneath it, I could hear the tremor of fear. "It's not like that's gonna hurt that fucking-.. whatever that was!"

Tara's head snapped toward him, her glare icy and cutting.

"You don't know what the fuck we're dealing with, this is better than your scrawny fist and toddler screams." she said, her voice low and deliberate.

Jackson opened his mouth to retort, but Lydia's hand on his arm silenced him.

"We need to focus," she said, her voice trembling but still managing to hold an air of authority. "Something else is out there. It—it attacked Isaac. I saw it, we all saw it."

Everyone stayed silent as the mood dried, we all were dawned upon by the realization that Isaac was no more.

I was never close with him but we still played for the team, saw each other at classes and the fact I'm never going to see him walking this halls, made me churn.

"That animal?" Allison spoke up. "It must have a bear right?"

"A bear?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

My mind flashed back to the hulking shadow of the Alpha, its crimson eyes glowing in the dark, its claws long enough to shred through steel. "Yeah, sure. Let's call it a bear."

Lydia's sharp eyes narrowed at me. "What else would it be, Stiles? You think it's some kind of—what, a monster? Don't be ridiculous."

I let out a nervous laugh, running a hand through my hair.

"Oh, of course not. A monster? No way. Definitely just a bear. A bear with glowing red eyes and the ability to toss people like rag dolls. Totally normal."

Allison stepped forward, her voice steady despite the fear in her eyes.

"Look, it doesn't matter what it is. What matters is that it's still out there, and we need to figure out how to stay safe." She glanced at the door, her grip tightening around her phone like it was her lifeline. "Did anyone call the police?"

"I tried," Lydia said, holding up her own phone. "But it was busy."

"Most of the guys ran out of the hall." I mentioned. "A few must have made a call."

A sudden realization dawned on me as I bit my tongue. As I stand here, my dad's on his way to school, a place crawling with the alpha and a masked killer.

Fuck me, I got to do something before it's too late.

A loud thud against the wall made everyone jump, the sound reverberating through the room like a gunshot.

Tara and I instinctively moved closer to the door, while Jackson practically leaped behind one of the lab tables. Lydia grabbed his arm and yanked him back upright, her face a mask of barely controlled panic.

"That wasn't a bear," Tara muttered under her breath, her knuckles white as she tightened her grip on the knife.

"Could be someone panicking," I offered, though I didn't even believe my own words.

Another thud followed, louder this time, and then a deep, guttural growl that seemed to shake the very air around us.

Everyone froze, the sound so primal and unnatural that it felt like the world itself had stopped to listen. My stomach twisted, my mind racing to figure out our next move.

Lydia's voice broke the silence.

"If it's a bear, it won't break through the door, right?" She was trying to sound confident, but the quiver in her voice gave her away.

Tara shot her a glance. "I wouldn't count on that."

"Okay, great, so we're trapped in here with nothing but science equipment and a pocket knife," Jackson said, his voice rising in pitch. "This is just fantastic."

I turned to Tara, keeping my voice low. "We need a plan before the police make it here

She nodded, her mind clearly working as fast as mine. "We have to distract it. Get it to focus somewhere else while we get these three out of here."

"Distract it? How?" I whispered, already dreading the answer.

Before Tara could respond, Allison stepped forward, her expression determined. "We can use the fire alarm. It'll make noise, draw attention."

Tara and I exchanged a glance. It wasn't a bad idea, I have done it as a prank but it's riskier.

The alarm could just as easily draw the Alpha—or whatever else was out there—closer to us. Still, it was better than sitting around waiting to be picked off.

"Fine," Tara said finally. "But we'll need to move fast. Once the alarm goes off, we head for the exit. Stick together, stay quiet."

"What about weapons?" Lydia asked, her voice shaking. "We can't just run out there unarmed."

"Weapons?" Jackson repeated, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "What do you suggest? A Bunsen burner and a test tube?"

"Better than nothing," Tara snapped. "Grab what you can. Anything sharp or heavy."

While everyone scrambled to arm themselves with whatever they could find, I couldn't shake the feeling that this wasn't going to end well.

The Alpha was one thing—terrifying, yes, but at least somewhat predictable. But the masked figure from earlier? That was a whole different level of nightmare.

As we gathered near the door, ready to make our move, Allison hesitated, her hand gripping my arm.

"Stiles," she said softly, her eyes searching mine. "What if it's not just a bear? What if it's… something worse?"

I forced a weak smile. "Then we scream like hell and die a painfully excruciating death."

I'm shit a pep talk.

Her expression didn't change, but she nodded, letting go of my arm.

Tara reached for the door handle, pausing for a moment to glance back at us. "Stay close. Don't stop for anything."

With that, she pushed the door open, and we stepped into the hallway.

The air outside was thick with tension, every shadow stretching farther than it should, every creak and groan of the old school building amplified in the silence.

The emergency lights cast an eerie red glow over everything, turning the hallway into something out of a horror movie.

As we crept toward the nearest fire alarm, I kept my eyes peeled for any movement, my heart pounding in my chest.

Every step felt like a gamble, like we were daring whatever was out there to notice us.

Finally, we reached the alarm. Tara motioned for everyone to stand back as I reached up and pulled it.

The shrill wail of the alarm shattered the silence, echoing through the empty hallways like a scream.

For a moment, nothing happened. Then, from somewhere down the hall, a low growl answered the sound, followed by the unmistakable thud of heavy footsteps.

"It's coming," Tara whispered, her voice barely audible over the alarm.

"Time to run like you have to take the biggest dump of your life." I said, grabbing Tara's hand and pulling her toward the nearest exit.

The others followed close behind, their footsteps pounding against the linoleum floor.

As we rounded a corner, I glanced back and caught a glimpse of it—a massive shadow, its crimson eyes glowing in the darkness, its movements impossibly fast.

We burst through the exit doors and into the cold night air, the alarm still blaring behind us. But even as we ran, I couldn't shake the feeling that this was far from over.

And the worst part? Neither was the Alpha.
