Chapter 269: Are You Joking? (2)
Heo Tae-seok composed a group text and sent it to all the followers:
[Greetings, this is Church Leader Heo Tae-seok.
The regular meeting, originally scheduled for Friday, has been moved to Tuesday at 6 p.m. I apologize for the sudden change in schedule.
Despite the short notice, Black Scythe will be sharing the strategy for the next round at the meeting, so please ensure your attendance without fail. Thank you.
Hello everyone, this is leader Heo Tae-seok. The regular meeting…]
Heo Tae-seok thoughtfully included a polite English translation for those who didn’t speak Korean. However, there was one person to whom he sent a different message: Alex Pearson.
Instead of the usual meeting location and time, Heo Tae-seok gave Alex a separate time and address.
With this, I’ll be able to meet him alone.
It wasn’t a simple mistake. He had deliberately chosen to meet Alex separately to extract evidence directly from him.
Upon receiving the message, Alex immediately booked a flight.Traveling from Germany to South Korea took approximately 10 hours, which left little time to waste.
I don’t know why they suddenly changed the time, but…
He couldn’t afford to miss the meeting.
After all, didn’t they say that Black Scythe would share the strategy for Round 17?
Even if I’m in my underwear, I have to make it no matter what.
Fueled by such resolve, Alex arrived at Incheon International Airport as quickly as possible and showed the meeting address to a taxi driver.
“Here. Take me here.”
“Huh? Sir, are you sure about this address? It’s just an empty field…”
“Please go fast. Okay? I’m late.”
“Late, huh? Fine, fine. As long as I get paid, I don’t care.”
Setting his doubts aside, the taxi driver drove to the specified location, dropped Alex off, and promptly left—leaving Alex standing alone in the middle of an empty lot.
“This is the place, right? So why is no one here?”
Even though he had arrived 20 minutes late, the field was completely deserted.
Alex couldn’t make sense of the situation, but his confusion didn’t last long.
Someone was approaching.
“Leader!”
The person walking toward him was none other than Heo Tae-seok.
Alex greeted him with a friendly smile, but the mood quickly shifted.
What’s going on here?
Alex’s sharp instincts picked up on the tense atmosphere.
Heo Tae-seok’s expression was unusually stiff, and he was even wearing his combat gear.
“Leader, you don’t look so good. Is something wrong…?”
“Alex.”
Cutting off Alex’s words, Heo Tae-seok spoke in English—something he’d prepared in advance.
“Tell me the truth.”
“Excuse me? What are you talking about…?”
“No lies. Just the truth.”
Alex didn’t know what he was being asked to confess, but the heavy atmosphere left no doubt that this was serious. He could feel a distinct hostility in Heo Tae-seok’s gaze.
Wait, could it be…?
For Heo Tae-seok to show up in full combat gear to meet a follower—it wasn’t a good sign.
It was as if he were warning Alex not to try anything, like showing someone a gun to intimidate them.
Something’s definitely off. He’s hostile toward me.
Sensing the danger, Alex quickly equipped his own combat gear.
It was only natural—if you felt threatened, you had to be ready to defend yourself.
However, Heo Tae-seok seemed to have anticipated this. A smirk spread across his face as he activated a skill.
“Black Chains.”
Chains materialized out of thin air, wrapping around Alex and binding his limbs.
Even though Alex had equipped his gear, he was rendered immobile. His eyes flared with anger.
“What do you think you’re doing?!”
“If you tell the truth, you won’t have to suffer.”
Summoning a black arrow, Heo Tae-seok aimed it directly at Alex and spoke in his prepared English:
“What are you scheming, huh?”
“Scheming? What are you even talking about…?”
“Don’t play dumb. I already know everything, so spill it!”
Heo Tae-seok growled.
The black arrow hovering above his shoulder looked ready to pierce Alex’s heart at any moment.
“Dorothy, Victor, Sophia, Russell, Jo Yong-ho!”
Hearing the names, Alex’s eyes widened in shock.
“You met with these people, didn’t you? Why did you contact them?”
“How do you even know that…?”
Realization dawned on Alex, and his expression darkened.
“Don’t tell me… you’ve been following me?”
“Tell me the truth—”
BOOM!
Before Heo Tae-seok could finish, Alex shattered the chains binding him with a burst of mana. The force of the explosion sent Heo Tae-seok flying backward.
At the same time, the chains that had restrained Alex vanished.
“You were tailing me? Why? Why?!”
“Dammit, this bastard dares to attack me…?”
Heo Tae-seok gritted his teeth in frustration.
Though he hadn’t sustained any injuries, Alex’s actions were a clear sign of hostility.
“Devil Transformation.”
As a pair of black horns sprouted from Heo Tae-seok’s forehead, his appearance transformed into that of a demon.
Seeing the four black arrows floating menacingly around Heo Tae-seok, Alex narrowed his eyes.
“So that’s how you want to play, huh?”
It seemed Alex wasn’t planning to back down either. A spear of ice began to form in his hands.
The situation was on the verge of erupting into an all-out battle.
“Enough. Stop.”
At that moment, a voice interrupted them.
But it was already too late.
“Huh!”
Both men had already launched their attacks at each other.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The magic attacks collided mid-air, only to hit someone who had stepped between them.
The destructive power of the 70-level spells could easily rip through a human body, but the person struck wasn’t an ordinary human.
“That… that’s…!”
Where the attacks had landed, a barrier of darkness emerged, shielding the person completely.
As the dark shield dissipated, the figure standing unscathed was revealed.
A man with bronzed skin, not a single scratch on his body, stood before them.
“What are you doing? Fighting amongst allies?”
The man wore a mask. His deep, low voice carried an undeniable authority.
