The Absolute Godspeed of Infinite Worlds

Chapter 313: [313] Why Is the Old Man Here?

"Attention everyone! We've invited a new coach for this joint training session!"

Amidst the chaotic scene, a teacher from Kyomon Academy entered the training grounds, clapping to draw everyone's attention.

"You two over there, please pause your sparring for now!" he shouted toward the two girls locked in heated combat.

"No need, no need! Let them keep going!"

The one who stopped him with a hoarse voice was a sparsely-haired old man.

He appeared to be at least ninety years old—his body frail with age, yet his spirit remained vigorous. His eyes shone brightly as he stood there in a gray kimono, leaning on a cane with a cheerful grin.

"Old man? What are you doing here?" Eiji's eyes widened in shock.

"What, not happy to see this old bones, you little rascal?" The old man winked at him playfully.

"The God of War!"

"The school actually got the God of War to be our coach?"

"Unbelievable! Does our school really have that kind of pull?"

"Maybe it's for his disciple's sake?"

The representative students from Kyomon Academy gasped in astonishment.

To ordinary students, the God of War was a legendary figure—a powerful Blazer of such advanced age that he was practically a national treasure. Even Kurogane Itsuki would treat him with utmost respect. They had only ever seen him on television before.

The reason they didn't immediately rush for selfies upon seeing him in person was simply due to their awe of his mythical reputation.

"Why would the God of War come to be a coach?"

"Because all the coaches Kyomon invited got defeated!"

Under the student's questioning, Kusakabe Kagami spread her hands in a gesture that feigned helplessness but radiated pride.

For this joint training session, Kyomon Academy had specially invited several professional knights to serve as coaches—each at least a C-rank Blazer Knight, considered elites in the professional knight community.

Unfortunately...

On their very first day, every single one of them was defeated.

Not just once or twice, but repeatedly beaten in rounds.

Eiji took the first wave, followed by Ikki in the second.

Seeing how easily the two of them dispatched the coaches, the remaining students grew eager too. Soon Stella, Touka, and Shizuku also took turns thrashing them.

Of course, this wasn't bullying—it was simply how the intensive training was structured.

The purpose of the camp was to enhance practical combat experience, allowing the representative students—who had lacked real battles—to adapt to the Seven Stars Sword Art Festival atmosphere early. Thus, sparring with coaches was the main curriculum. If the coaches lost, it only proved they weren't up to par this year.

The coaches were utterly demoralized. One female coach even burst into tears on the spot, leaving the students feeling somewhat guilty.

Eventually, all the coaches resigned, refusing to stay no matter how much the Kyomon teachers pleaded.

With all the coaches gone, Eiji and the others had no choice but to spar among themselves.

The Kyomon teachers couldn't very well take their frustration out on students, so they scrambled to find new coaches.

And then the God of War showed up.

"Master, it's been too long. My apologies for the lack of contact."

Touka stepped down from the training grounds.

Unlike Eiji's casual attitude, Touka treated the God of War with deep reverence.

"Oh my, little Touka is blossoming more and more beautifully. Love sure makes a difference, huh?"

Nangou Torajirou looked her up and down with a teasing grin.

"Master, what are you talking about?!"

Touka instantly flushed red.

"Finished sparring?"

Eiji glanced behind him.

Stella looked thoroughly unwilling to accept defeat, while Ikki was comforting her.

"Yeah, just a slight edge."

Touka crossed her arms proudly.

Stella's strength was indeed formidable—especially her overwhelming magical power, which surpassed everyone else's. After all, she was recognized as the world's strongest magic wielder.

But she was still too green, unable to fully harness her talents yet.

"Old man, you're here to coach, right? Enough talk—let's fight!"

Eiji's eyes burned with fighting spirit.

Nangou Torajirou was undoubtedly a world-class powerhouse. Unlike the "expired loli," he specialized in close combat, making him a far better test for Eiji's current progress!

"Heh heh, haven't seen you in months, and now the brat's got a big mouth!"

Torajirou's eyes gleamed with menace.

Sure, his swordsmanship might've been surpassed, but that didn't mean he was out of tricks. Time to teach this kid some respect for his elders!

Three minutes later.

"Oww…"

Eiji limped off the training field, covered in bruises.

"Let me heal you."

Shizuku stepped forward, using her water mage's healing abilities to soothe his injuries. Within half a minute, his wounds were completely gone.

The "God of War" had held back, leaving only superficial damage.

"Incredible! Even the Aurora Swordsman, the strongest among us, couldn't land a single hit?!"

"As expected of a legend!"

The surrounding students gazed at Torajirou with awe.

And it was true.

Eiji hadn't managed to touch him even once.

Every slash that should've landed somehow missed—his target always slipping away unnoticed, leaving every strike to cut empty air.

"That old man definitely used his ability!"

Eiji grumbled through gritted teeth.

He'd seen Torajirou's swordsmanship before, and frankly, he could now see through it—spotting openings in an instant and defeating him within a minute. Even "Trackless Step" shouldn't have made his attacks whiff completely.

The only explanation for being utterly outclassed? Torajirou had cheated with his Blazer ability!

"Junior, just drop it. If you hadn't provoked Master, you wouldn't be in this state."

Touka sighed, trying to calm him down.

"My turn!"

Ikki stepped forward, eyes alight with excitement.

Another three minutes later, he walked off the field unscathed—leaving Shizuku with nothing to heal, her expression oddly disappointed.

"Your swordsmanship has hit a bottleneck. Facing stronger opponents is the only way to break through."

Torajirou offered no critique, only advice.

"I'll take that to heart."

Ikki bowed respectfully.

"Me next!"

Stella charged in, channeling her frustration from losing to Touka into this fight.

Minutes later, she was sent flying by a single cane strike, skidding back a dozen steps before stopping—though, like the others, she bore no injuries.

"You're too green. Haven't faced any formidable opponents before, have you?"

Stella looked at him with admiration.

He had hit the nail right on the head.

"So impressive!"

"The Aurora Swordsman getting injured was just a fluke. The God of War truly looks out for his juniors! Let's go too!"

In no time, Nangou Torajirou became the center of attention among the student knights, with everyone eager for his guidance. Even the teachers from the Kyomon Academy were itching to join in.

Nangou Torajirou sparred with each of them one by one, offering personalized critiques.

Only when it came to his initial match with Eiji did he refrain from giving any advice.

This was only natural.

Because even the God of War himself had nothing to suggest.
