Chapter 19: Marriage And War
As the day broke, it took some time, the clock striking eight o'clock and the alarm nell ringing for the fifth time. Paisley opened her eyes, the feeling of intense weakness striking her down on the soft bed. She forced herself up, almost staggering midway to the bathroom as she entered, turning on the tap and splashing the water her face, slightly regaining full consciousness.
She came out from the bathroom, more relieved than before, but with her head still aching her a bit. She took a look at the time and was shocked. Past eight, few more minutes and she would be late to report for duty at the hospital for sure.
She hurriedly arranged everything, using her superspeed as her help card, before picking out a nice dress, and rushing into the bathroom to take her bath. In seven minutes time she was already out of the bathroom. She immediately dried herself with the towel, before also using the hair dryer on her hair and putting on her dress.
By eight twenty she was already down for breakfast, Aunt Becky was down, seeming to notice her as she stepped down.
"Woke up late today." Aunt Becky said.
Paisley nodded, making her way to the kitchen to het a quick breakfast.
"Your breakfast's in the microwave, I put it there thirty minutes ago." Aunt Becky said again.
"Ok" Paisley replied. She opened the microwave and took out the plate, not wasting time in savouring the entire food. She hurriedly washed the plate immediately she was done, and speedily walking out.
"I'm gone" she said as she made her way through the door.
Aunt Becky waved her goodbye, also shouting at her__"do come back early, it's good to get enough rest as you're still young."
Paisley chuckled hearing this."Ok Aunt." She replied. She rushed to the hospital, Taking a quick cab to speed up her pace. By the time she got to the hospital, it was just a few minutes to nine o'clock, she rushed into the hospital, encountering Liam and Rylee who were standing not far away.
Everyone turned to look at her as she rushed into the hospital with the door making quite a loud noise to werewolves hearing. She braced herself, trying to ignore the fact that she was late in her second day of work as she walked to where Rylee and Liam were.
"Morning" she said to them.
"Thought you already decided to quit today?" Rylee said while Liam nodded.
"I accidentally overslept, probably because of the headache." Paisley replied as she once again felt the pang in her head.
Rylee made an 'oh' before leaning closer and whispering in her ear. "The dean already asked of you, he hates it when you're not punctual."
Paisley rolled her eyes at her words, that would somewhat ne the least of her worries at the moment, she needed to check on the patient in ward sixty four, also she hadn't done her rounds.
Suddenly, Liam raised a question she hadn't thought of, "If what you just said is true, I'd remember you, werewolves don't have headaches, barely even any of the sicknesses humans are subjected to."
"Ohh yeah that's right." Rylee chimed in before continuing as she used in of her fingers to massage her head. "Well if that's it, how could you have a headache this morning...Tst, I bet Mr Logan Stephens would believe a word you say."
Paisley had a second thought after hearing Liam's proposition, 'what he said wasn't wrong, supernaturals immune system were very much unlike humans, the DNA structuring as well as the agressive genes of creatures both vampires and werewolves, it's very unlikely that they have a serious headache, unless.....unless the case of a reaction of the system to an intruder".
Her mind flashed to the incident from yesterday night, it was very confusing on why an assassin as skilled as him would ambush her and at the end only steal a few drops of blood from her.
Just as she was being buried in her own thoughts, the voice of Rylee brought her back to the present.
"You seem lost in thoughts. Anyways, I'll advise you find a very nice excuse to keep the Dean off, as well as quickly starting you rounds."
"Ok, I'll begin, don't you two have something doing also." She reminded them as she headed to the girls change room to change into her hospital uniform.
"She's right." Liam said as he tapped gently on Rylee's shoulder with the file he was holding.
Rylee rolled her eyes at him with a frown before following him.

At the council table in the pack hall, the elders of the pack as well as the 3 main leaders sat round the table. The air was filled with the immerse chill emanating form these werewolves. Aiden sat with his hands playing with a pen as the elders argued among themselves.
"Another slaughter found right inside our territory, the same heart ripped out, same wounds, and still no idea of who and what is doing this." Elder Kane of the Hales Family said.
"Well at least we have an idea on where they're coming from, the mountainside has no security, that's why they make use of this advantage. I can't seem to think of any other possibilities, let's so something quickly." Elder Holmes said.
Seth sits up with one finger tapping against the table, " We already have forces conducting an investigation on this case quietly, we just need to try and protect the city internally".
Elder Garren speaks up, "We can't keep things quietly anymore, the other packs must be questioned, what if this is sabotage"
"You want to risk war based on speculation? Elder Garren you do know the consequences of what you just said if we adhere to it right." Seth said making everyone think twice before saying anything.
"But certainly we cannot keep being reserved about this, we keep finding more intruders, certainly we cannot have our soldiers patrol just the mountains, it will leave our city gate void of defence." Mr Myers said before continuing, "what we need fellas, is an intelligent strategy to lay a trap against this unknown enemy.
"Well that's something you could say, unknown enemy right." Chester said making the entire elders attention fixed in him.
"About the unknown enemy, they have a particular scent I can't recognize. Not fully werewolves" he continued.
"Not fully werewolves?" The elders murmured.
"I already had someone conduct an investigation on the ones we caught, I'm sure he already made some progress in finding out the origin about these intruders." __Aiden said as he crossed his legs under the table.
"But we cannot relent on this upcoming war, even if you can find out about where they're from, we cannot neglect the fact that we have an upcoming threat, we need special reinforcements." Sir Payne said while he gave a glance to Aiden who's eyes seemed fixed on the large map on the round table.
Aiden knew where he was going with his words, the tone and everything, including the quick glance he gave him, all were very suspicious.
The elders looked at one another, right before Holmes stood up, everyone's attention were fixed on him except Aiden's.
"Fellas, I do have an idea" he said with a smile before continuing, "since we're short on soldiers, how about we borrow some highly skilled trained soldiers to patrol the mountains while the city's warriors maintain their normal positions." Elder Kane said.
"And who do you imply would have such skilled soldiers that though their numbers may be full, they would be able to patrol the entire city borders?" Seth asked.
Elder Kane smiles, "Who else but Damon of the house of Vireon, the family offered an alliance to the Alpha once..."
"A marriage alliance you speak of" Seth said cutting him halfway while Aiden's face remained unreadable.
Elder Kane turns to Aiden, "Think about it, you may not like such political affairs, but, we're dealing with the survival of the pack—this city, needs more numbers in defence rather than pride."
"Elder Kane don't you think your words are not well counted." Seth said with a mocking look in his face.
The expression of the elders change on hearing Seth's disrespectful words. Aiden looks over the council calmly, with his hands folded and his legs crossed I fer the table and his back relaxed on the chair.
"Like I said, at the moment there is no great cause for panic. Also I won't be cornered into a decision made from fear".
