The Apocalypse Begins with a Nightmare

Chapter 28: Chapter 026

Lin Mo had an impulse to throw the brick down.

He resisted.

Because the ashes stopped crawling halfway up.

Half of the brick could be seen covered in ashes with remnants of fire, sparks flowing across it, looking so brilliant and special in the dim environment.

No one explained to Lin Mo what exactly had happened, so he could only use his imagination and creativity to speculate (wildly guess).

"This... looks a bit like an enchantment?" Lin Mo, with his reputation as a gaming expert, grabbed the brick and waved it in the air.

Whoosh.

A flame burst out from half of the brick.

The flame lasted for a moment, with nothing to burn, slowly dissipating, returning to its previous ashy state.

"Confirmed, this is an enchantment." Lin Mo nodded to himself.

He was somewhat excited.

This kind of emotion was rare for him. Why was he so obsessed with playing games, especially various horror games, if not to seek that tiny sense of achievement and excitement after completing them?

Even when he found the usable white bone mask earlier, Lin Mo wasn't as excited as he was now.

After all, using the white bone mask came at a price.

But this thing was absolutely essential for breaking and entering, and teaching ghosts a lesson. These ashes seemed to be able to attach to anything.

This time it was a brick, next time if Lin Mo found a knife, wouldn't it become a flame knife?

Just thinking about it was thrilling.

Lin Mo chuckled.

He started to find it fun.

Holding the spark-emitting brick, Lin Mo turned his head to look at the oil painting beside him.

The painting originally depicted a deformed monster.

And since Lin Mo entered the room, the monster's eyes had been staring at him. At first, Lin Mo thought it was an issue of perspective, but later he realized it wasn't.

This fellow's eyes could actually move.

Lin Mo's initial plan was to leave it alone if it didn't bother him, but after learning the weakness of these ghost paintings, Lin Mo's attitude shifted a bit.

Especially after discovering the flame enchantment trick, it gave him a sense of invincibility with the brick in hand.

Lin Mo glared fiercely at it.

The monster's eyes met Lin Mo's for two seconds, then slowly looked away.

It averted its gaze.

That's more like it.

Lin Mo wanted to shout "Who else?" but he knew he couldn't go too far.

After all, this room was full of terrifying nightmares, and these monsters only became wary after seeing him burn a ghost painting.

In reality, any one of them had the power to destroy Lin Mo.

Knowing when to stop was the wise move.

But first, he had to find the split-headed ghost.

After some thought, Lin Mo decided not to search by himself, as he might accidentally fall into another ghost painting, which would be troublesome.

Lin Mo decided to ask directly.

"Friends, I'm playing hide-and-seek with a friend who's hiding in this room. If anyone could give me a hint, I'd be very grateful. Once I find it, I'll leave immediately, I promise."

After saying this, Lin Mo added: "My friend likes to stand on its head and looks a bit ugly."

The next moment, Lin Mo saw the monster portrait that had been looking at him earlier turn its gaze in a certain direction.

In a nearby pitch-black oil painting, several motionless ghost shadows suddenly grew arms, pointing in the same direction.

With such obvious hints, Lin Mo would be blind not to understand.

"Thanks."

Lin Mo, wielding the enchanted brick, strode over with an imposing air.

In the corner of the room stood a painting.

Lin Mo crouched down to look. This painting depicted only backs.

The people in the painting had their backs turned,

hunched over, heads lowered.

It was a very realistic painting.

So real that the people in it seemed genuine, as if they might turn around at any moment.

The figures in the painting were densely arranged, only their backs and the backs of their heads visible.

Without a doubt, this was also a ghost painting, and those people standing with their backs turned were not living beings.

Lin Mo looked carefully but couldn't tell which one was the split-headed ghost.

They all wore the same black clothes and had their heads lowered.

At this moment, a thought occurred to Lin Mo.

If the split-headed ghost was in this ghost painting, why not burn it and be done with it?

But what if the split-headed ghost wasn't inside?

Just then, Lin Mo suddenly heard a ringing sound.

He immediately realized it was three o'clock in the morning.

The alarm he had set earlier went off.

There was no time left.

It was too late to burn the painting, and it was equally impossible to identify which one was the split-headed ghost.

Lin Mo had a sudden inspiration and shouted: "Alright, stop hiding, I can see you!"

After saying this, Lin Mo turned and quickly headed out.

He moved extremely fast.

The alarm sound in his mind grew louder, and Lin Mo suddenly felt dizzy, his steps becoming unsteady. Just as Lin Mo walked out of the room, he felt his vision go dark. When he opened his eyes again, he saw Mao Mao Hen Dan Da's anxious face.

Her strong hands were grabbing Lin Mo's shoulders, shaking him vigorously.

No wonder he felt dizzy.

"Alright, stop shaking me."

Lin Mo said, and Mao Mao Hen Dan Da immediately stopped.

"Lin God, you're awake?"

Lin Mo nodded, then sat up.

He first checked the time: 3:01 AM.

If he had been a step slower earlier, his next appearance would have been inside the ghost painting room 409.

Although Lin Mo had subdued the ghost paintings in room 409 before, no one could predict what other changes might occur the next time he entered.

It was like choosing a logout location in a game.

Logging out in the middle of a monster group was the worst choice.

Lin Mo was an experienced player; he wouldn't make such a rookie mistake.

"Lin God, how's the situation?"

Mao Mao Hen Dan Da seemed a bit uneasy. She knew very well that although the Security Bureau hoped these survivors could truly master the ability to survive in the nightmare world, and had told them all the known information,

In reality, very few people could achieve this.

Mao Mao Hen Dan Da was well aware of this fact.

Without Lin Mo, if she fell asleep again, it would be a matter of life and death, with a very high chance of not waking up alive.

"The situation is good, everything is under control."

Lin Mo wasn't boasting.

This time it really went exceptionally smoothly, although he did encounter some dangers. For example, he was nearly KO'd by Xiao Yu at the beginning, then suddenly encountered the split-headed ghost, and later was tricked and trapped in a ghost painting. If he hadn't been observant, found a way out, and discovered a method to enhance his strength, this time he really would have been done for.

Lin Mo could see that Mao Mao Hen Dan Da was struggling to hold on, and if she didn't sleep soon, there might be problems.

So this time, he summarized his experiences from the three nightmare world encounters and his personal insights, compiling a set of survival rules.

"Mao Mao, remember, in the nightmare world, the first principle is survival, and to survive, you must overcome the negative effects brought by fear."

Lin Mo had already planned to give Mao Mao some intensive special training in this area when he got the chance.

But now there was no time.

She needed to sleep and rest, otherwise her body wouldn't be able to handle it.

He explained the layout of Building 2 in Green Garden Community to Mao Mao Hen Dan Da.

"Remember, I left a white bone mask in the room where you were hiding. You can think of it as an item. When worn on your face, it will enhance your physical attributes. I tested it myself, and it increased my strength by at least double. But there are side effects. During this process, your mind will be invaded by extremely terrifying negative emotions. Don't wear this unless absolutely necessary."

Lin Mo thought for a moment and added: "If you have to wear it, given your resistance ability, it's best not to exceed 30 seconds. Otherwise, you might be controlled by the white bone mask and become a madman who only knows how to kill."

Mao Mao Hen Dan Da nervously committed this to memory.

"Don't be too nervous. This time, I'll sleep with you to ensure you're safe."

After Lin Mo said this, Mao Mao Hen Dan Da's face lit up with joy.

She looked at Lin Mo, thought for a moment, then suddenly asked: "Lin God, do you have a girlfriend?"
