Chapter 7: Chapter 7: The Old Maiden of Sobu High.
"Ding Dong Bell~" [T.N: I have no clue how bells ring in a text format lol]
'Time move so quickly when you are not paying attention.' Nanahara Yu complained while still typing on his mobile.
But he froze suddenly in the middle of his track, as his expression changed to a panic, his heart started beating violently.
He Bunk Shizuka Hiratsuka's class due to his shock, he remember.
If he didn't return to class before she conclude her lecture, there was a very high probability that Nanahara Yu would taste the famous Iron feast from the Old Maiden!
Of course it was something undesirable to anyone, and Nanahara was no different.
He tossed the now empty barley tea can into the air and swiftly kicked it inside the trash can and ran quickly towards the classroom of Class F, second grade.
If memory serves him right, the Old Lady has a habit of dragging her class for about 10 minutes after the bell rang, so he still have a chance to atone himself.
But his expectations failed him severely when he reached his classroom, the Iron Lady has long left the classroom and it was now filled with chatter between his classmates.
Nanahara Yu feels like crying, but he couldn't muster any tears.
"I-It's over, I'M Dead, Hiratsuka Sensei didn't extend the class today... I'm Cooked..."
But as soon as he finished speaking, he felt a sensation as if someone with a malicious intent was gazing at him with blood lust.
Then, a bone dissolving level of chill came from his rear.
Of course Yu Nanahara knew well from whom this familiar aura of oppression came from.
First, he quickly turned around, bowed, and apologized, all in one breath, his actions were so smooth one would have to question if he has practiced this beforehand.
"Hiratsuka Sensei, I'm sorry! I had a terrible stomachache and went to the toilet!" He exclaimed without any hint of pride.
If you apologize before the other person has time to get angry, you should be able to restrict them from resorting to violence to a certain extent.
Nanahara Yu thought that his performance was perfect and there should be no flaw in them.
But for some eerie reason, Hiratsuka Shizuka simply remained silent.
Nanahara Yu, with his backs covered entirely with sweat wished to know what she is thinking so bad.
Just when the trembling of his knees reach a new height, a sudden voice came from above that startled him.
"Going to the bathroom? Yes, Yes, that is the case. You haven't taken this situation seriously I see..." Then again, it was silence and lastly a sigh.
"Nanahara!!! Do you think I'm an idiot! Now you really are guilty of a serious crime!"
Nanahara Yu could feel the sudden energy that gathered to the parallel of his head. If he has to guessed it was the famously known Iron fist of the old Lady.
He gulped tremblingly, but it appears like the old Maiden who stood before him wasn't really as cold blooded as the rumour has told.
"Forget it, follow me first. We should talk to the office since it seems like you have a lot of things to say." She said, and paused for a moment.
Then Nanahara Yu feel a smile filled with animosity directed at him, "the office should also be a better sound proof..." She said and leave immediately.
Should he follow? or should he not follow? That is the question.
But ultimately Nanahara chooses the former, since he should be able to beg for mercy.
------
Hiratsuka Shizuka originally wanted to reprimand Nanahara Yu harshly.
But because of his decisive apology her excessive irritation has subsided a little and instead chooses to speak with him in the office.
Nanahara Yu followed Shizuka Hiratsuka to the office silently.
Because it was lunch break, there were no other teachers in the office as most of them went to eat.
Nanahara Yu took the opportunity to glance at Hiratsuka's face and figured that she seemed to be not as angry as he originally expected.
It was a slight relief but, she still spoke coldly.
"Do you have anything else to explain? I like hearing your excuses."
Perhaps she intended to give him some time to sort out his thought, after dropping her statement, she just ignored him.
With a smooth and measured movement, she retrieve a cigarette from her pocket, tapping it onto the table a few times then bit on it gently.
After that she fumbled around the messy table in search of her lighters.
With a quick eye Nanahara Yu quickly pulled out the lighter from the clutter on the table.
Then with a somewhat surprise Shizuka Hiratsuka, he leaned forward and lightly lit up the cigarette she was holding.
"click".
Hiratsuka closes her eyes and puff the cigarette a few times before she returned her focus back to Nanahara Yu.
Perhaps it was because the cigarette tasted very good or because the boy in front of her was an eye candie, the gaze she directed towards him became softer.
"So?"
"Hmm?"
Even if Nanahara Yu felt slightly guilty for bunking the her class, he couldn't exactly identify what this lady wanted the explanation of.
On the other hand, looking at the boy still pretending to be unaware, Shizuka Hiratsuka felt her anger acting up again.
"Why do you sleep so often in class?"
This was what concerned Hiratsuka Shizuka the most.
It was not only her who noticed this frequent behaviour of Nanahara, even other teachers have mentioned it a few times before, he was a habitual offender alright.
It was the reason she calls him over this time, she felt it was the most crucial to fix this behaviour of his first to avoid his performance declining greatly.
"Ahem, Hiratsuka Sensei, I'm sorry, I just didn't sleep well last night."
This wasn't a lie, he had indeed stayed up late before he transmigrated to this world.
But Shizuka Hiratsuka's face darkened, with an obviously dissatisfied expression.
'This kid must be hiding something from me.' She thought.
Otherwise, how could the good students who had flourished so greatly in terms of behaviour and academic before sleep in class and withdraw from sports entirely.
She sighed and suddenly exclaimed, "Kid, don't talk nonsense! You promised me before that you would live a good life in Sobu High, don't you?!
You withdrew from the club and took a nap during class for several days in a row. Is this what you called a good life?
Especially in baseball, even if it is too difficult leading Sobu High School to win the national championship, breaking through the prefectural competition and competing at Koshien would have been no problem for you! Don't you want a recommendation for a good University?!
Why the hell did you quit and just laze around!?"
The more she speak, the angrier Hiratsuka Shizuka gets.
She inhaled sharply and glance at Nanahara Yu viciously.
"You should be thankful that Nowadays laws are so strict about excessive punishment from teachers."
Although her tone and what she said were quite harsh, Nanahara was all but grateful.
He knew that even though this Old Maiden looked speak like this and appear... Like... That on the surface, she still cared deeply about him and didn't really want to beat him... Up?
Anyway, because she was a very serious and responsible teacher, even from an emotional standpoint, Nanahara Yu believed that this teacher deserved a serious answer.
After all, writing light novels is not something to be ashamed of anyway.
"Actually, I planned to become a light novelist. The reason I have slept in class for the past few days was because I have been working on my draft at night and I've already finished it... So I won't be sleeping in the class anymore." He said seriously.
"As for withdrawing from sports... that is my personal bias."
Hiratsuka Shizuka narrowed her eyes, and stared silently at Nanahara Yu.
When she find nothing odd, Hiratsuka Shizuka nodded superficially, while considering other things.
As a long time follower of Shonen Jump, she naturally knows about the light novel award period every April.
If anyone wants to debut as a light novelist, this period of time will indeed be the best choice but also simultaneously the most difficult.
"Have you finished your draft?"
"Yes."
"What type is it?"
"It's... Uhmmm.... A slice of life romance... Type of novel?"
Hiratsuka narrow her eyes again, "When you returned, send me a copy of your draft, and then I'll let the matter of you sleeping in class be forgotten."
"Ayy?"
"Could it be that Nanahara-kun was lying to me when he said he was writing a novel?"
Hiratsuka Shizuka's expression turned rigid instantly.
"N-no, that's not the case. I will send you the copy of the draft when I returned... Sure sure."
Nanahara has never felt so helpless and afraid before.
It seems that this old lady did not trust him completely.
Asking him for the draft seemed like a way to gauge whether he was lying or not.
If he can't do it, he suspect that this old lady would surely show him why she gained all of her nickname.
But this was also a reflection of how responsible she was.
As the saying goes, a lie needs countless other lies to cover itself up, but fortunately this wasn't a lie.
Of course, it's not entirely the truth. But does that really matter?
"Then that's it. Don't forget to send me the copy. Maybe I, your japanese teacher, can give you some advice."
Hiratsuka smile brightly.
Writing light novels can barely be considered a serious job.
But well, it appears that the boy at least does not develop in a bad direction.
"Hiratsuka Sensei, is the talk over? may I leave now? I haven't eaten anything yet." Nanahara smiles slightly while asking.
"No, just the "sleeping in class" part is over." She nonchalantly responded.
"Now, the reason why you withdrew from sports..."
Nanahara Yu's expression froze and smile bitterly.
"I've already said this. Resigning was my personal choice."
Hiratsuka Shizuka raised her hand, indicating that he didn't want to hear such ambiguous answers.
"What's the reason?"
She squinted her eyes, and stared into Nanahara Yu's eyes.
"Is it because we lost to the private Toyosaki academy? If that's the case, it was just an exchange match, and it won't affect the county selection competition that will come in 2 months."
Nanahara's eyes turned colder the more hiratsuka speak.
"Teacher Hiratsuka, you must understand that a baseball field is also a battlefield, it is just without steel or blood. Once defeated, there will be nothing but corpse, left in the sand, only waiting for the slow decay..."
He paused for a moment.
"But the worst part was not the defeat—It was a betrayal!"
He shook his head and stop himself from getting too heated up.
"Anyway, Hiratsuka Sensei, if we continue furthermore, there won't even be any bread left in the store. So I'm going to eat first. Goodbye."
Nanabahara Yu ran away, waving goodbye to Shizuka Hiratsuka.
There was a "swish" sound behind him.
It was because the old maiden stood up.
This frightened Nanahara Yu to speed up his pace and disappeared in a blur.
Although, Hiratsuka Shizuka didn't seem to have any intention of pursuing him. After all, she couldn't really starve her students.
Anyway, there was still a chance in the afternoon.
She threw away the cigarette butt into the ashtray, and looked at the empty office door with a wry smile:
"What he said just now was quite cool."
Thinking back to the scene just now, she felt her head ache, but it's not entirely without gain.
It was basically certain that the general problem came from the exchange match with the private Toyosaki.
She haven't any idea about the "betrayal" part but...
"I'll have to think of other methods..."
-------
Next to Sobu High Stadium.
Saika's face turned red, panting slightly while bowing to Nanahara Yu:
"Thank you, Nanahara-kun."
Nanahara Yu looked at him and replied with a nonchalant smile:
"I should be the one thanking you."
Things went back to ten minutes ago——
After Yu Nanahara escaped from the office, he happened to meet Totsuka Saika.
With a brief inquiry, he learned that Totsuka Saika was going to help Hikigaya go to the cafeteria to bought bread for lunch.
So, Nanahara Yu ask Totsuka Saika to borrow money and went with him.
As expected, the cafeteria was crowded at this time, with a bunch of tall and sturdy men crowding at the bread window.
Let alone the little guy, it would be difficult for even Hikigaya to push through them.
Fortunately Nanahara Yuu has an excess of muscle, so he could easily push through the crowd.
This was the reason this little guy thanked him.
Nanahara Yuu glanced at the big bag of bread held by Totsuka Ayaka and asked curiously:
"Does Hikigaya eat so much?"
"Yu, Yuigahama's lunch is also here."
Nanahara Yuu was stunned:
"Did you do this every day?" Nanahara asked, incredulous.
This made Saika a bit flustered and answered him shyly, while lowering her head.
"Not really, Hikigaya said that this would make me more manly... It's an exercise"
Nanahara Yu was silent for a moment, and said with a strange look:
"A... Aha¿ I SEE... So ou want to get rid of the cuteness¿"
Totsuka Saika blushed instantly, glancing to the side, not daring to look directly at Nanahara Yu.
"Uhm, I also want to be a manly man like Nanahara..."
Nanahara Yu glanced to the side and said:
"Okay, then... Uhm ... Then you work hard."
Second grade F class classroom.
"I...I'm back."
Totsuka Saika whispered while holding a large bag of bread.
"Wow, Sai-chan, you are finally back!" Yuigahama exclaimed happily, "Come come, the Mustard Puff Russian roulette only needs you and me!"
"Mustard Puff Russian roulette?"
The name make Totsuka Saika a little curious.
"Actually, there is a bunch of puffs with a lot of spicy mustard in it. They have all chosen, and none of them are the spicy one. Only you and I are left."
Yui explained.
"I...should I participate too?"
Totsuka Saika shrank her neck. He was not too fond of spicy food.
But the others all looked expectant.
Hikigaya didn't dare to look at the little angel. He glanced aside and said:
"Totsuka, playing games with everyone can also increase your masculinity."
"Well, okay then."
Since Hikigaya said so, he couldn't refuse.
He put the bag of bread on Hikigaya's desk, and then looked at the plate in front of Yui.
Totsuka Saika said to Yui nervously:'"You...you choose first."
"Then I'll pick one first?"
Yuu swallowed her saliva nervously.
