The Big Bang Theory: Me and Paige

Chapter 19: Chapter 19: The New Roommate

Chapter 19: The New Roommate

The apartment building, a glorious, if slightly dilapidated, testament to early 20th-century architecture, had always been a bastion of geekdom. The hallways were filled with the familiar sounds of video games, science documentaries, and the occasional, very loud, argument about the finer points of quantum mechanics.

And then, she arrived.

A new roommate, a kind, normal woman named Sarah, moved into the apartment next door. She was a breath of fresh air in a building that desperately needed it. She was kind, she was friendly, and she was... normal. A normalcy that, to the guys, was the most terrifying thing they had ever encountered.

Sheldon, ever the paranoid one, was the first to notice. He was standing in the hallway, a suspicious look on his face, as Sarah, with a friendly smile, tried to open her door.

"Excuse me," Sheldon said, his voice a low, suspicious rumble. "I am Sheldon Cooper, and I must ask you a series of questions before you are allowed to enter the premises. First, what is your scientific background? Second, what is your stance on the 'Many-Worlds Interpretation' of quantum mechanics? And third, why are you smiling so much? It's... unnatural."

Sarah, a look of profound confusion on her face, just blinked. "I'm sorry, what? I'm just trying to get into my apartment."

Sheldon, however, was not deterred. "I see. A defensive posture. A classic tactic of a spy or a highly advanced android. You are hiding something, and I will find out what it is!"

The guys, of course, were in a state of pure, unadulterated panic. They were watching the whole thing from their apartment, their faces a perfect picture of terror.

"A new roommate," Leonard whispered, his voice a high-pitched squeak. "And she's... she's so normal! She's a statistical anomaly! This is a scientific mystery!"

Adam and Paige, watching the whole thing unfold, just shook their heads. Adam, a playful smirk on his face, knew this was a prime opportunity for a prank.

"This is it, my love," Adam whispered to Paige. "The most glorious prank of all. We're going to take a perfectly normal woman and turn her into a mythical, mysterious, magnificent creature of their own creation. The System is already running. I'm going to give her a backstory so ridiculous, so unbelievable, they'll have no choice but to believe it."

Adam, with a few subtle taps on his phone, engaged his System. A small, invisible display popped up in his eye, and he began to create a series of fake digital footprints for the new roommate. He created fake social media profiles with bizarre interests, fake news articles about her being a part of a "secret government experiment," and a series of fake, encrypted emails that were, of course, a part of a fake, secret, government mission.

The guys, meanwhile, were on a mission of their own. They were trying to "uncover her secret." They were using a series of bizarre, overly-complex methods, including a "forensic analysis" of her garbage, a "criminal profile" of her motivations, and a "psychological assessment" of her "unnatural" friendliness.

The prank culminated in a chaotic, glorious moment. Sarah, a perfectly normal woman, was walking down the hallway, her arms filled with groceries, when she overheard the guys' conversation.

"I'm telling you, guys! The breadcrumbs in her trash can are a secret code! It's a message to her handler!" Howard was whispering, his voice filled with a sense of profound conspiracy.

Sarah, a look of profound confusion on her face, just stood there. She put her groceries down and, with a heavy sigh, just shook her head. "Okay, guys, what is going on? What are you talking about?"

The guys, a look of intellectual betrayal on their faces, just stared at her.

"We... we know who you are," Sheldon declared, his voice a low, suspicious rumble. "You are not a normal human being. You are a highly advanced android, and we will find out your true purpose!"

Sarah, a look of profound amusement on her face, just burst out laughing. "You guys are so weird! I'm not a robot! I'm a veterinarian! My 'secret' is that I love animals. And the breadcrumbs in my trash can are just... breadcrumbs. From a sandwich."

The guys, intellectually devastated, just stared at her. Adam and Paige, meanwhile, were quietly celebrating their success. They had just taught the geniuses a valuable lesson: that sometimes, a normal human being is just... a normal human being.
