The Billionaire's Dilemma

Chapter 38: A New Lead on Marcus

Emily's heart raced as she opened the attachment. The document detailed a series of unauthorized transactions offshore accounts, shell companies, and suspicious payments. Each entry pointed to Marcus Caldwell, and the dates lined up perfectly with the Singapore deal Julian had confessed to.

"This isn't just covering tracks," she murmured to herself. "Marcus is embezzling money."

She grabbed her phone and dialed her best source for financial records Lisa, an analyst who had helped her crack tough cases before.

"Emily?" Lisa answered, sounding curious. "Didn't expect to hear from you so soon."

"I need a favor," Emily said, keeping her voice low. "Can you dig into Marcus Caldwell's financials? Offshore accounts, hidden assets anything that looks dirty."

Lisa chuckled softly. "Digging up billionaire secrets? My favorite. Give me a few hours."

As she ended the call, a new determination settled over Emily. If Marcus was guilty, she could protect Julian by exposing the real mastermind.

Her thoughts were interrupted by another buzz Julian's message.

Julian: Still on for tonight?

Emily hesitated. After everything, seeing him felt dangerous but the pull was too strong.

Emily: Yes. I'll meet you at 8.

She needed to know how much Julian truly understood about Marcus's betrayal and whether he was willing to face the truth.

Later That Evening

Emily arrived at Julian's penthouse just as the sun dipped below the horizon. The air between them was charged as he welcomed her inside.

"You seem distracted," Julian noted, pouring her a glass of wine. "Is everything okay?"

She took a breath, steadying herself. "I got an anonymous tip," she admitted, meeting his gaze. "About Marcus."

His expression hardened. "What did it say?"

"He's been moving money through offshore accounts money connected to Singapore."

Julian's jaw clenched. "I trusted him for years. If he's been stealing"

"He has," Emily interrupted softly. "And I'm going to prove it."

For the first time, Julian looked vulnerable. "If this comes out, he won't just go after me. He'll come for you too."

Emily placed her hand over his. "I'm not scared of Marcus. But I need to know… will you let me finish this?"

A long silence stretched between them before Julian nodded. "If you want the truth, I won't stop you. But Emily be careful."

The unspoken truth hung in the air: If Marcus discovered how close she was to exposing him, he wouldn't play fair.

And Emily was now walking a dangerous line

between justice and survival.
