The Boundless King: Anime Mania

Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Shadows of the Monarch

[15:57, 03/03/2025] Mellow: The day had faded into a quiet evening, the sun dipping behind the horizon as the last few rays painted the sky in a fiery orange. Aki leaned back against the chair in his room, resting after another day of aimless wandering through Konoha. The village, for the most part, was a peaceful sight, but it was starting to feel a little too small for someone like him. Aki was a force of nature, an anomaly among the ninjas of the Hidden Leaf. His strength had grown exponentially, but the challenge was beginning to feel a little hollow.

"Alright, enough with the playing," he muttered to himself. He had been skirting the edge of true mastery for too long. The time had come to get serious again.

"Ael," Aki called.

The familiar sound of soft, ethereal laughter echoed as Ael materialized beside him. Her golden eyes glinted with a knowing smile. "Oh, back to training already? Didn't you just have your fun?"

Aki shrugged lazily. "I've had enough downtime. I'm getting too comfortable, and I can't have that. Plus, there's still a bunch of potential to unlock in me. Better get to work before I get lazy and forget everything."

Ael nodded, floating next to him, arms crossed. "That's what I like to hear. So, what's the plan?"

Aki gave a confident grin. "I'm gonna dive into my Shadow Monarch abilities. Been neglecting them, haven't I?"

---

The moment Aki decided, the air around him shuddered, and a familiar black portal opened. His personal Virtual Battleground—a world designed specifically for him to train without any consequences—appeared before him. Aki stepped through without hesitation, the shadows of the virtual world swirling around him as the battleground stretched out infinitely before him.

Once on the other side, he immediately felt a heavy, dark presence settle in the air, and the ground beneath his feet was covered in a thin layer of mist. This was his domain, where his powers as the Shadow Monarch could fully manifest. He had already proven himself capable of handling raw power, but this... this was different.

"Ael, System, time to get serious," Aki called out as he raised his hand. The shadows began to respond, stretching from the very ground, swarming like a hungry entity, each wisp of darkness a potential ally. "I want to test something... a little more personal."

The System chimed in with its usual chipper tone. [Ooh~ Aki, you're really going for it this time, huh?]

Aki's eyes narrowed. "I need to decide which direction I'm going. The army or the elite warriors?" He raised two fingers, and before him, two paths appeared in shimmering holographic light. One led to army domination—a path to create an army like Sung Jin-Woo's, unstoppable in its numbers. The other was about creating an elite squad of warriors—shadow beings that would evolve and grow through their battles and devouring other shadows.

[The army route is fun! But the elite route would let you dominate with quality!] The System seemed to be enjoying itself, encouraging Aki to choose. But Aki, as usual, was more of a thinker.

Ael, observing the paths, crossed her arms. "You know, you could always mix the two. Build an army, but evolve your best shadows into absolute monsters. You can't go wrong with both."

Aki smirked. "That's exactly what I was thinking." His mind was already running through the possibilities. "I'll go with both. Let's start small and grow big."

---

Aki focused his energy. His power surged. He reached into the darkness, pulling and weaving the threads of shadow around him. He wouldn't rely on random shadows today. No, this time, he would create two of the strongest shadows he could, a nod to the path of the Shadow Monarch.

"I call upon the two who will shape my foundation," Aki muttered as his energy reached its peak.

Before him, the shadow took form. Out of the abyss, two figures emerged, each more imposing than the last.

Igris—a towering figure in gleaming black armor, sword at his side, eyes glowing with cold determination. The air around him hummed with power as his presence weighed heavily upon the surroundings.

Beru—a terrifying insectoid figure with sharp, predatory limbs and an aura of absolute dominance. His body was sleek, and his eyes gleamed with deadly intelligence. Every step he took seemed to shake the air itself.

Aki stood before them, his grin wide. "Perfect." His hand lifted again, and he spoke with an air of command, "You two will be the foundations of my army. Igris, Beru, you will grow stronger, evolve, and help me carve my path."

The two shadows kneeled before him in respect, their dark auras pulsating as if alive. They were his creations, and with them, his army would begin to take shape.

Aki stepped back and gestured to the shadows that had gathered around him. "Now... let's test how far you can grow."

---

Aki's eyes narrowed as he observed the two shadows. He focused on Igris, watching the flickers of shadow essence within him. "Devour," he commanded. At his word, Igris's shadow flickered and rippled. The weak shadows around him twisted and dissolved, their energy being absorbed into his form.

Igris's armor darkened, becoming more intricate. His sword gleamed with a new light, and his aura grew heavier, more oppressive.

"Good," Aki muttered, nodding in approval.

He turned his attention to Beru, and with a simple thought, the insectoid general began to absorb the shadows as well. Beru's exoskeleton shuddered, becoming even sharper and more deadly. His eyes glowed as his body became a perfect blend of monstrous power and agility.

[Ding! New System Feature Unlocked: Shadow Evolution!]

The System's voice rang out with satisfaction. [Ooooh~ Aki, you've gone and broken the rules again! You've unlocked Shadow Evolution! Now your shadows can grow and evolve as they devour and battle.]

Aki looked pleased. "So, this is how it works, huh? Devour, evolve, become even more powerful." He turned toward his two generals. "This will be a fun journey, won't it?"

---

Aki grinned. His power was growing, but there was something even more satisfying about this path he had chosen. The elite squad would evolve through battle, becoming unique powerhouses—ones that he could command as extensions of his will.

"Alright, let's see how far you two can take me," Aki muttered, stepping forward. He looked at Igris and Beru. "We'll test the strength of your evolution soon. For now, let's head back."

He raised a hand, and the shadows surrounding him disappeared into his own darkness, fading into the air. The Virtual Battleground dissolved around him, and he returned to the real world.

The path of a true Monarch was set.

---

Aki stepped out of his training domain, his mind running with the possibilities. The shadow evolution method was now in his hands, and with it, his plans for the future were taking shape. He would build an army—but more importantly, he would evolve his generals into true champions.

"There's still so much more to do," Aki muttered, a gleam of determination in his eyes. "But for now, I'll rest. The world can wait."

As he returned to his home, he felt the weight of his power growing heavier—like a crown settling on his head, reminding him that he was no longer just another ninja in the Hidden Leaf. He was a king.

A king with shadows by his side.

And the world had better watch out.
