The Butcher of Sargon (LoL x Arknight Fanfiction)

Chapter 154: Volume 2 Chapter 33: Isn’t Your Home Next Door?

"Nothing much," Garde replied calmly as he turned around.

"Just taking a look at the room's layout."

Logically speaking, he hadn't done anything wrong. Even if Muelsyse noticed Kristen's presence in Saria's house, it wouldn't have been a big deal.

However, when Garde realized that Muelsyse was using her Originium Arts to probe the room, he decided to hide Kristen.

It wasn't his own reputation he was concerned about—it was Kristen's.

This kind of awkward situation, how could she let one of her subordinates witness it? It would surely be a blow to Kristen's standing.

Muelsyse glanced briefly toward the wardrobe but didn't overthink it. She had only come upstairs because she'd heard some noise.

If she had come in person, she might have smelled the lingering scent of shampoo and body wash from the bathroom. However, her water construct lacked such senses.

"Did you turn on the hot water just now?"

"Yeah, I wanted to check if the appliances here were still working. After all, Saria's been away for a few months."

"True."

Muelsyse looked around, surveying the room's decor, which felt oddly familiar.

"I just remembered!" she exclaimed, clapping her fist into her palm.

"When Saria and Kristen first moved in, Kristen stayed here with Saria for a while."

"But later, Kristen got too busy with work and research and stopped living here altogether."

"This used to be Kristen's room!"

As Muelsyse spoke, she didn't notice the faint twitch at the corner of Garde's mouth.

Now he understood why Kristen had been in this room—it was her room!

Still, Saria must have considered this possibility when she invited him to stay here, right?

Could it be that Kristen, who usually didn't live here, just happened to stop by today on a whim—and he just happened to run into her?

Garde figured it wasn't entirely out of the question.

Even though Muelsyse now knew this room had once belonged to their superior at Rhine Lab, she didn't react much. If Saria had agreed to let Garde stay here, it wasn't her place to interfere.

Instead, learning that it was their CEO's former room piqued her curiosity. She began eagerly inspecting the surroundings and eventually plopped down on Kristen's bed.

"Ah! Sorry, sorry—I got it wet," Muelsyse muttered. She had almost forgotten that this was her water construct, and her body was made of water. The bedspread was immediately soaked.

"You did that on purpose, didn't you?" Garde said.

"Of course not!" Muelsyse denied flatly.

"The beautiful and kind-hearted Miss Muelsyse would never hold a grudge and seek revenge just because someone called her old!"

"So, Miss Muelsyse," Garde said, stepping closer to her water construct.

"Did you forget that your real body is downstairs?"

"Huh?"

Before Muelsyse's water construct could respond, Garde turned and walked out of the room, flipping off the lights as he left.

"Hey, wait! I'm sorry, okay? I'll clean the bedspread!" Muelsyse's water construct chased after him.

As the room plunged into darkness, a faint muffled whimper could be heard in the silence.

Downstairs, Garde caught the real Muelsyse, who had nowhere to run. Without hesitation, he gave her a light but firm slap on the backside.

Muelsyse's face turned crimson with embarrassment in front of Whisperain.

"Ugh! I'm not a child anymore, you pervert! Creepy crocodile! You're just using this as an excuse to take advantage of me!"

"Please, your butt isn't even pleasant to touch. Your construct felt better," Garde said with a look of disdain.

He turned to Whisperain and added, "Remember, when you're staying with Aunt Muelsyse, don't pick up her bad habits. Mischief leads to spankings."

"Okay," Whisperain nodded seriously, tugging on Garde's sleeve and looking up at him with wide, timid eyes.

"Can't I stay with you, Garde?"

"Of course, you can," Garde reassured her, ruffling her hair.

"But I'm often not at home and can't take care of you properly. That's why I've asked Aunt Muelsyse to look after you."

He could care for Whisperain in the short term but couldn't be there for her forever.

Staying with Muelsyse would give Whisperain a stable environment, and once she regained her memories, working alongside Muelsyse could also be a good option.

"I'll visit you often."

Hearing this, Whisperain finally seemed at ease.

"Honestly, what's so great about this stupid crocodile?" Muelsyse muttered under her breath as she approached, rubbing her still-sore backside.

"All right, it's getting late. Let's head home. Since we're just next door, Whisperain, you can come over anytime Garde's around," Muelsyse said, hands on her hips.

For a moment, she couldn't help but suspect that Whisperain was part of some grand scheme by Garde to give him an excuse to visit her house whenever he wanted. But after spending the past few days with him, she'd noticed that Garde didn't seem to have any romantic interest in her at all.

This realization made her question her own charm.

'So what if I'm a bit flat-chested and not exactly curvy?' she thought.

'Aren't cute looks supposed to be enough for a girl?'

Despite the numerous security patrols in Rhine Lab's residential area, Garde escorted Muelsyse and Whisperain to their door before heading back.

Once inside, Garde went straight upstairs.

He opened the wardrobe, and inside, Kristen was struggling to sit up, trying to assume a more dignified posture.

When the door opened, Garde was greeted by the sight of a bound and gagged blonde beauty sitting in the wardrobe, looking up at him with a calm, steady gaze.

"Sorry about that," Garde said, removing the cloth from her mouth.

"I figured you wouldn't want your subordinates to see you like this."

"They already have," Kristen replied in an even tone, showing no apparent distress over Garde's actions. During her time in the wardrobe, she had even managed to come up with two new research ideas.

Garde suddenly remembered that, technically, he was Kristen's subordinate.

After untying all the bindings, Kristen stood up and faced him.

"Am I free to move around now?" she asked.

"Uh, yes, of course," Garde said, scratching his head. It seemed like Kristen wasn't too bothered by the whole situation, and to be honest, neither was he.

'Maybe it's because I'm not attracted to her,' he thought.

Kristen sat down casually, leaning back in the chair with her legs crossed.

"I'll choose to believe that what happened today was just an accident," she said, her expression unreadable.

"After all, you could have used more effective means to exploit me, but you didn't. I just want to know one thing—how did you know the code to this house?"

Although her mouth had been gagged, Kristen's ears had been free to pick up the conversation between Garde and Muelsyse. From that, it was clear that Muelsyse was aware Garde could enter Saria's home, which meant he hadn't broken in using some special Originium Arts. He had entered through the front door—with permission.

Why?

Kristen could only think of one possibility, and Garde confirmed it.

"Of course, Saria told me."

"Impossible!" Kristen's composure cracked for the first time.

Even when Garde had seen her naked or physically restrained her, Kristen's rationality had remained intact. But hearing that Saria had given the house's access code to a third party was enough to shake her.

For some reason, Garde felt an odd sense of satisfaction at seeing Kristen's reaction.

'Because I don't like her?' he wondered. 'Maybe.'

A menacing grin spread across his face, revealing his sharp teeth.

"What's so impossible about it?" Garde leaned down, towering over Kristen.

"This is Saria's house, and I'm Saria's boyfriend. Her fiancé, actually. Is there something wrong with me coming home to my own house?"

"Now, you, Miss Kristen," Garde continued, his grin widening.

"If I recall correctly, isn't your house next door?"
