Chapter 156: Volume 2 Chapter 35: Live Like A Borer, Die Without Working

Garde hadn't expected that Kristen would actually stay another night at Saria's house while he was still there. But it would probably only be for one more night, right?

Although Saria had indeed left a room for Kristen, while in Columbia, Garde was certain he would be staying with Saria.

If they shared a room every night, Garde feared that Saria wouldn't be able to bear it, and neither would he.

Before dawn, Garde had already gotten up. For him, only two or three hours of sleep a day was enough. In Saria's room, he found many books, some of which were about originium arts.

However, the books Saria read were quite complex. As someone who wasn't familiar with originium arts, Garde couldn't understand them at all. But he did spot a few fashion magazines at the side of the wardrobe.

At first, Garde thought Saria never read such magazines.

But what girl doesn't like to dress herself up?

Even though his relationship with Saria was already very close, it was still not a good habit to snoop around in someone else's belongings.

So, Garde picked up one of the fashion magazines on the table and began flipping through it. The magazine introduced a women's seamless sports bra, which had a design exactly like the one Saria wore the other day.

In addition, there were descriptions of some high boots and stockings, one of which Saria had worn during their time in the rainforest and tropical land. It was designed to prevent mosquito bites and sunburns. The downside was that if worn for too long, it could start to smell, which was why Garde had held himself back from licking it at the time.

Sometimes, Garde really wished he were a lizard man instead of a crocodile man. After all, lizardmen had longer tongues, unlike crocodile man, whose kisses were always clumsy.

But since he had been born a crocodile, he had the Renekton template. If he had been born a Safira, whose template would he have gotten?

While Garde was reading, he heard some noise coming from outside.

He checked the time: it was just 6:30 AM, quite early.

Garde stayed where he was, almost like living with a girl he didn't know. If he weren't so socially awkward, he'd have tried to avoid any awkwardness during daily routines.

However, the second time they met, he had already seen her body. Sometimes when he closed his eyes, a flash of golden hair would appear in his mind.

His evaluation? Not as good as Gavial, Laurentina, or Saria.

His girlfriends were the best, his girlfriends were number one in the world!

Garde licked his finger and flipped the page of the magazine. He noticed his nails had grown again, even though he had just trimmed them in Melun City.

However, Garde didn't seek out Kristen, but Kristen came to him instead.

Knock knock!

Garde opened the door and saw Kristen standing outside with a cold expression. When she saw the fashion lingerie magazine in Garde's hands, her face didn't change, but Garde could almost feel the disdain in her eyes turning almost tangible.

However, Kristen held her tongue and didn't say anything.

"Follow me," she said. "I'll announce your appointment today. If you want to do well in your position, don't be idle."

Hearing Kristen's words, Garde was taken aback. He looked at the clock behind him.

"But it's only 6:30 AM. Six-thirty in the morning!" he said.

"In Columbia, the hardest-working workers are already at work by seven o'clock. I'll give you half an hour to wash up and have breakfast. You need to be at the company by 7:30," Kristen replied, her face expressionless.

She had no idea what exactly Saria saw in Garde. Could it be that he couldn't even manage to show up to work on time?

"Um, I have a question," Garde raised his hand, as if asking a teacher in class.

"What other doubts do you have?" Kristen asked.

"How many days does Rhine Lab work each week? How many days off do we have, and what are the working hours?"

Realizing that Garde was from Sargon and didn't understand the local rules, Kristen responded with a faint smile. "Rhine Lab has one of the best welfare systems in all of Columbia. We only work six days a week, from 8 AM to 6 PM, with an hour-long lunch break."

Kristen glanced at her watch.

"It's 6:37 AM now, and you've already wasted 2 minutes and 36 seconds of my time. Do you have any other questions? If not—"

"I quit."

Kristen almost choked on her words as Garde interrupted her.

"I don't think I'm qualified for this job yet."

Garde said this with a sincere expression.

"Theoretically, Rhine Lab still owes me the guide fee. Once it's paid, I could deposit it in a bank here in Columbia and earn interest, at least several million a year. I wouldn't have to worry about my future."

"Not to mention, Saria still owns a significant share in Rhine Lab. As Rhine Lab's stock price skyrockets in the future, the dividends will be enough for us to live off for the rest of our lives."

"So, I think it shouldn't be a problem if I don't work."

Garde spoke confidently, believing his reasoning was sound. Money was just a thing, and as long as it was enough, he didn't need to worry.

As long as he was strong enough, was he really afraid of not finding ways to make money?

Renekton had worked for Shurima for thousands of years, but now he was tired and wanted to rest. Garde decided to let him rest.

For a moment, Kristen couldn't tell if Garde was speaking the truth or just being sarcastic. The threatening tone in Garde's voice from yesterday still echoed in her ears.

She didn't like Garde, and she didn't believe that Saria would have a happy life with him. A man who couldn't even be bothered to work—was he really worth trusting?

But since it was Saria's choice, Kristen didn't intend to interfere... for now.

What she wanted to do was something else.

"Garde, I don't care whether you want to work or not. What I need from you is to represent Rhine Lab and announce the results of your mission."

Kristen stared at Garde with an emotionless face.

"You should know that Saria is under a lot of pressure over in Sargon. If you can publicly reveal your identity as her guide, it might help relieve some of that pressure."

Garde thought about it and realized this was the key. For Kristen, his survival was of no consequence. But if his revelation could help divert the pressure on Saria, it would benefit both sides.

"Okay."

Garde agreed without hesitation.

"But I have one condition."

"I can accept anything except transferring shares," Kristen replied, not surprised. She would have been more surprised if Garde had asked for nothing.

"No, I only want the shares you hold."

"Impossible!"

"I'm not asking for them for myself, but for Saria."

Garde looked at Kristen with a scornful tone.

"Saria has given so much to Rhine Lab, and you can't even give her a small amount of shares?"

Kristen met Garde's gaze, her face unreadable.

But in the end, she made a decision.

"Okay."
