Chapter 3: Chapter 3
"Leave my office before I call security," Alex commanded, his voice firm and unyielding.
Beth stormed out of the building, fuming in disbelief. "I can't believe Alex called it quits," she muttered to herself.
As she walked away, her expression turned paranoid. "He never laid a hand on me, but that doesn't give him the right to throw me out whenever he feels like it."
Beth's stroll was interrupted by a stranger clad in a white round-neck shirt, black sweatpants, and a face mask, who approached her with an air of mystery.
"Take this," he said, handing her a phone. "My boss wants to speak with you."
Beth spun around, startled by the sudden encounter. Regaining her composure, she accepted the phone, eyeing the stranger warily.
"Hello?" she answered gruffly, not in the mood for small talk. "Who is this?"
The voice on the other end was low and mysterious. "You don't need to know my name. If I wanted you to, I'd have approached you myself. I can help you get Alex all to yourself."
Beth's annoyance grew. "Why do you think I need your help? What exactly do you think you know?"
The voice responded slyly, "I know for sure that he just ended things with you."
Beth's eyes widened in shock. How did this stranger know? she wondered, her mind racing with questions.
The stranger's voice broke the silence. "I'm sure you're surprised, but you have nothing to worry about. I can help you."
Beth's trance was broken, and she asked, "How can you help me?"
The voice responded, "For now, lay low. You wouldn't want Alex to see you and make his dislike for you grow even more."
Beth agreed, "All right then."
She then asked, "How do I get in contact with you?" realizing she didn't have the stranger's contact information.
The voice replied, "Liam will give you his contact info. He'll relay messages between us."
Beth's gaze shifted to the stranger, assuming he was Liam.
Beth agreed to the stranger's terms, but her mind lingered on one question: why hadn't the mysterious voice given her direct contact information?
As soon as the call ended, Liam gestured for Beth to share her phone number. Once she did, he nodded and turned to leave, disappearing into the crowd as suddenly as he appeared.
With nothing left to do, Beth headed towards her car, her thoughts still consumed by the strange encounter and the mysterious offer of help.
*At the bar*
A young lady with a heart-shaped face and slender jawline scanned the bar, searching for someone. She wore a stunning red gown with cherry accents that fell just above her knees. Her caramel-golden blonde waves cascaded in loose curls around her shoulders, and her hazel eyes sparkled with calmness and warmth.
As she moved deeper into the party, her gaze suddenly froze. Her red purse slipped from her grasp and fell to the ground. Before her stood her boyfriend, passionately kissing another woman.
"Tony?" she called out, her voice trembling with disbelief.
Hearing his name, Tony looked up, seemingly surprised to see his girlfriend. However, his expression quickly shifted, and he spoke with an angry tone.
"What are you doing here?"
Nyx's eyes narrowed, surprised by the anger in Tony's tone. "I should be the one asking you that," she retorted, struggling to keep her own anger in check.
"How could you kiss another woman, forgetting you have a girlfriend?" Nyx's voice rose, her anger and hurt boiling over.
Tony's expression remained eerily calm. "It's over between us," he stated, his voice devoid of emotion.
Nyx's eyes widened in shock as Tony's words cut through her like a knife. She struggled to process the sudden breakup and the revelation of his infidelity.
The room seemed to spin around her as she took a step back, searching for a place to sit and gather her thoughts. Tony, on the other hand, walked away, arm in arm with the other woman, leaving Nyx feeling shattered and humiliated.
"I loved him with all my heart," Nyx whispered to herself, still trying to wrap her head around the situation. "And yet, he ends it like nothing ever happened."
As she watched Tony and the other woman disappear into the crowd, Nyx made a silent vow not to shed a single tear in front of him, despite the searing pain in her chest. She stood tall, her eyes dry, and her heart heavy with the weight of his betrayal.
In Alex's apartment, a middle-aged woman, elegantly dressed in a simple yet expensive blue gown, adorned with fine jewelry, sat with her black hair pulled back into a sleek ponytail. The atmosphere was tense, but Candice had decided to wait with her stepmother for Alex's return.
Initially, Candice had intended to share her test results with Alex, but she reconsidered, thinking it best to wait until after his conversation with their stepmother, which was likely to be unsettling.
With her decision made, Candice left the living room and headed to her bedroom, her stepmother barely acknowledging her departure.
Alexander stepped into the living room, where his stepmother, Diana, was already seated. He let out a subtle sigh and moved forward to take a seat.
"Good day, Mother," he greeted her, trying to sound cordial.
Diana ignored his greeting, her expression stern. "Do you remember our agreement?" she asked.
Alex nodded, his eyes cast downward. "I do."
"Good," Diana replied curtly. "When do I get to see her?" she asked, her tone firm and expectant.
Alex remained silent, unsure of how to respond to his stepmother's question.
Alex's mind flashed back to the agreement he had made with his stepmother. He was to get married by the age of twenty-five, with a three-month grace period to introduce his wife to the family. If he failed to meet this condition, he would forfeit control of the company.
How could something so critical have slipped his mind? Alex wondered, his thoughts laced with a mix of anxiety and self-reproach
Diana's sharp tone snapped Alex back to reality. "Young man," she said, her voice firm and stern. "I asked you a question. When do I get to see your fiancée?" Her eyes narrowed, expecting a prompt response.
"Soon", Alex replied curtly
