Chapter 34: Chapter- 33 The Offer Ø
[It seems you've arrived,] the humanoid figure remarked, its voice echoing in the stillness.
Edward, staring at the mystic being before him, felt a mix of confusion and irritation.
'Why would you wait for someone on the summit of a mountain?' he thought to himself, brushing aside the distraction.
"Who might you be?" Edward inquired, trying to regain control of the conversation.
[Fair question,] the being replied in a tone as neutral as the mountain air. [But shouldn't you introduce yourself first?]
Edward hesitated, then stated, "I'm Edward Lionheart, the first son of the Lionheart clan."
The being, whose name he still didn't know, seemed to ponder this for a moment, tapping its chin thoughtfully.
[Lionheart... hmmm,] it mused, the name sparking a distant memory.
After a pause, it continued, [Ah yes, the hero of the mortal world—Vermont, I presume?]
"Correct," Edward replied, his voice flat. "But you still haven't revealed who or what you are."
[I am Glacies, the Spirit King of Ice, and the ruler of this territory you've occupied for the past eight days,] the figure proclaimed with a hint of pride.
"What do you want?" Edward asked, his tone indifferent.
"
[No small talk, I see,] Glacies acknowledged. [Well, I was simply curious—how does a mortal end up in the spirit realm?]
"I can't explain it," Edward replied, holding Glacies's gaze with unwavering resolve.
Raising an eyebrow, Glacies recognized that the mortal standing before him wasn't lying. [Truly odd,] he mused. [If that's the case, I have a proposition for you.]
"What kind of proposition?" Edward asked, intrigued despite himself.
With a thoughtful expression, Glacies elaborated, "As you've likely noticed, the land I govern is quite serene and tranquil. However, therein lies the problem. this pace of life soon becomes monotone and predictable." He shook his head, a hint of longing in his eyes.
"And what am I supposed to do about your bor-?"
"I want you to stir discord within the spirit realm," Glacias interjected, cutting off Edward's question with chilling ease.
"…"
Silence stretched between them, both parties weighing each other's intentions.
Finally, Edward broke the tension. "What's your insidious scheme?" He fixed his gaze on the mystic being before him.
Glacias chuckled, a low, mocking sound. "To think you would uncover my plan so quickly… I want you to obliterate the ruins of the mythical era." His eyes drifted away after saying this
"So that's your agenda, huh... But what do you mean by the ruins of the mythical era?" Edward pressed, searching Glacias's face for answers.
As their eyes met, a flicker of wariness crossed the spirit king's features.
[Your very soul disgusts me, it's a revolting mixture of emotion—split and weary,] he murmured, his voice tinged with disdain.
After a moment of tense silence, Glacias lowered his hands from their formal stance and pointed a finger toward Edward.
[You carry within you something that should have been destroyed during that time period…]
"That would not make any sense" Edward spoke shaking his head.
Edward's composed demeanor shifted as shock washed over his face while he gaped at the spirit. Edward wasn't disturbed by the spirit's knowledge of the Sword, but it was the flicker of fear that ignited within his eyes as he glared at Azphel that concerned him.
"... What do you know about Azphel?"
"I can't divulge that," Glacias replied, roundabout the conversation to the original topic. "I need you to destroy the ruins of the Mythic Era."
"Straight back to business, I see. But you still haven't answered my question," Edward pressed.
[As I mentioned, these ruins were forged during the Mythic Era, vast cathedrals crafted by the gods themselves.]
"Then why would you want to see them destroyed?" Edward retorted baffled by this information
[I differ from the other Spirit Kings—I thirst for knowledge and crave answers. I require your help to retrieve a golden-bound book titled 'The Whimsical Chronicles,] Glacias Revealed.
"The Whimsical Chronicles? I've never heard of it."
[It's a book that contains records from a time before record, an epic of sorts]
"... If this book is so invaluable, why not go after it yourself? Why rely on a mere weak mortal?" Edward questioned.
[would have, but the cathedrals are accessible only to humans. I don't understand why but large monoliths which surround the location pose as barriers] Glacias admitted, his tone tinged with curiosity.
"... I can do it but I would need two things as compensation"
[That depends, what are they?] Glacias pondered
"First want to get contracted, and second a way home"
[if that's all? Then that would be fine] Glacias spoke nodding his head
****
[this conversation was extended long enough I will take my leave]
Watching the mystical figure disappear Edward was left on the mountain summit
