The Devil CEO’s Reborn Lover

Chapter 26: Unveiled Lies, Unspoken Memories

The rain tapped softly against the windows of the Qin estate, but the storm inside Wu Mei's heart was anything but gentle.

She sat on the edge of the bed, her fingers gripping the bedsheet. The vivid flashes of her past life kept replaying—Liang Yue's twisted smile, her mother's cold hand pressing the pen against her fingers, He Sheng whispering empty promises as he led her to destruction.

It had all returned.

Every wound. Every betrayal. Every drop of blood.

Her heart beat slower now—not from fear, but from clarity. She remembered everything.

And yet… she said nothing to Qin Yanzhou.

Not yet.

He was too gentle these days, too attentive. She wasn't ready to tell him that his carefully guarded world had already started to shift in her mind. She needed time to process it, and more importantly… to decide what to do with the truth.

Meanwhile, something else stirred the city's attention.

Wu Yue.

Her stepsister, who once thought herself invincible, now bore the consequences of her cruelty. After the incident—an accident, the public said—Wu Yue's face had been left partially disfigured.

The media hadn't caught the full story, but whispers filled the air. Surgery wouldn't help soon. She wore a mask now, always. Her pride, however, hadn't faded.

Today, Wu Yue was set to attend a high-level shareholders' meeting for the Wu Corporation. It was her chance to prove she was still in control. To show that nothing could defeat her.

Wu Mei, in a black silk dress with a high slit and cold elegance in her steps, decided to attend too.

"Where are you going?" Qin Yanzhou asked, adjusting his cufflinks.

"Just somewhere I feel I need to be," she said, brushing a hand down his arm. "Don't worry, I'll be back before dinner."

He watched her with sharp eyes but said nothing. Only kissed her cheek, whispering, "Call me if something happens."

The Wu Corporation conference room buzzed with quiet conversation. Suits filled the chairs, and at the head of the table sat the core shareholders—some elders, some ambitious newcomers. The air was thick with perfume, tension, and speculation.

Then she walked in.

Wu Yue.

Covered in a long beige coat, a wide-brimmed hat shadowing her eyes, and a silk mask over the lower half of her face. A hush fell over the room as all eyes turned to her.

Some looked away out of pity.

Others whispered.

She stood tall, pretending not to notice. Her voice rang clear.

"I appreciate your presence today. Though I'm not at my best physically, I'm still perfectly capable of leading this meeting."

Murmurs of agreement followed.

Then the doors opened again.

This time, it was Wu Mei.

Every head turned.

She was like ice and fire in one frame—elegant, controlled, but with that dangerous glint in her eyes.

"Wu Mei?" Wu Yue's voice wavered slightly. "What are you doing here?"

Wu Mei offered a sweet smile. "Just observing. Or do I need your permission to witness the family business?"

The air cracked with tension.

Wu Yue scoffed behind her mask. "You shouldn't be here. You abandoned Wu family, who truly loved you, and chose to chase power through Qin Yanzhou. How pathetic."

That word—pathetic—hit the room like a slap.

Some men frowned.

Others exchanged glances.

But Wu Mei didn't flinch.

Instead, she walked slowly toward Wu Yue, her heels echoing like a countdown.

"You speak of love, Wu Yue," Wu Mei said calmly. "But do you know what's truly pathetic?"

She reached up suddenly—and before anyone could stop her—she yanked Wu Yue's mask away.

A collective gasp swept through the room.

Wu Yue staggered back, her hand flying to her face.

Scars ran down her left cheek—faint but visible in the harsh boardroom lighting. Her jaw was slightly misaligned, and her once-proud lips now trembled.

The silence was deafening.

A few whispered.

"Is that really her?"

"What happened to her face?"

"She used to be beautiful…"

Wu Yue's eyes widened in panic, and for the first time in years, she looked small. Cornered. Humiliated.

Wu Mei leaned close, her voice like silk dipped in venom. "Now everyone can see who you really are. No mask can cover the truth forever."

Wu Yue clutched her coat and fled the room.

No one followed.

Wu Mei stood in the center of the room, calm as still water.

Then she turned and walked away without a word.

Later that evening, the sky had darkened. Qin Yanzhou was waiting at home when the door opened. Wu Mei entered, her hair slightly damp from the misting rain, her shoulders relaxed.

He stood from the couch.

"How was the walk?" he asked quietly.

She looked up at him, slightly startled. "I never said I went for a walk."

He tilted his head. "You didn't have to. I received ten calls. All about you… and Wu family business."

Wu Mei chuckled faintly, kicking off her heels. "It was time the world saw her for who she is."

Qin Yanzhou approached, lifting her chin with two fingers. "Something's different about you."

She held his gaze but didn't answer.

"Your eyes," he murmured. "They're darker now. Deeper. Like they've seen something... old."

Her breath caught.

"You remember, don't you?" he asked, his voice barely audible. "Everything."

She didn't blink.

Then, softly, "Yes. It came back to me."

A pause.

"Why didn't you tell me?" he asked, gently but firmly.

"Because I was afraid," she whispered. "Afraid that I will change again and that I will be another person."

He touched her face. "I don't care who you were, Mei. You're mine now. present and every future you want."

Her heart twisted.

She stepped closer, resting her head against his chest. "I love you ."

He wrapped his arms around her like a fortress.

" I love you to wife."

As the rain finally stopped outside, Wu Mei closed her eyes, letting herself breathe in the quiet, solid warmth of the man she once feared, then hated, and now—

Now, perhaps... loved.
