The Devil CEO’s Reborn Lover

Chapter 48: The wand is destroyed

Qin Yangzhou instinctively moved closer to Wu Mei, shielding her with his body. Mo Qing and Zhao Xi stood beside them, tense and alert. The air crackled with an unseen force, and the very earth beneath them seemed to tremble under Dracon's presence.

"You're the one from the letter... the one who wants to use the wand for power," Wu Mei said, her voice steady despite the pounding of her heart.

Dracon chuckled, his cloak billowing in a wind that had no origin. "That letter was written by a coward. Xia Yi Ling feared what she couldn't understand. The wand doesn't destroy—it elevates. With it, I can create a new order in this world. One not ruled by fear, but by power."

"You're insane," Mo Qing spat, eyes blazing. "This world isn't yours to control."

Dracon raised a single brow. "Isn't it? This world responded to my call long before you arrived. And now that the wand is within reach... well, I'm afraid I can't let you walk away."

Before they could react, he raised his hand, sending a bolt of black energy toward them. Qin Yangzhou pushed Wu Mei out of the way, catching the edge of the blast on his shoulder. He grunted in pain but stayed standing.

"Yangzhou!" Wu Mei cried, scrambling to his side.

"I'm fine," he hissed through clenched teeth. Blood stained his sleeve, but his grip on her hand was firm. "Don't let him take that wand."

Zhao Xi drew his sword and charged at Dracon with a yell, only to be thrown back by a wave of magic that knocked him into a tree. He groaned and staggered to his feet, clearly dazed.

Mo Qing knelt beside him. "We need a plan. We can't fight him like this—not without magic."

Dracon advanced slowly, the wand's location clearly his only focus. Wu Mei, heart racing, reached into her pouch and felt the faint pulse of the map and bracelet still resonating with warmth.

She suddenly remembered the instructions in Xia Yi Ling's letter.

Find the wand. Destroy it. Or magic will destroy everything.

Wu Mei's gaze turned to the nearby cliff where the wand's glow had originally drawn them. She turned to Mo Qing. "Hold him off. I know where it is."

Mo Qing nodded. "Go. We'll buy you time."

Wu Mei ran, her feet barely touching the ground as she followed the glowing symbols on the bracelet. Qin Yangzhou started to follow, but Dracon blocked his path.

"You're not going anywhere," Dracon sneered.

Qin Yangzhou's jaw clenched. "Watch me."

He charged, engaging Dracon in close combat. Dracon tried to blast him back, but Yangzhou dodged with surprising agility, landing a punch that forced the dark sorcerer to retreat a few steps.

Meanwhile, Wu Mei climbed the narrow rock path, blood from her earlier wound seeping through the bandage. The pain pulsed, but she pushed forward. Her vision blurred slightly, but she forced herself to keep moving. At the cliff's peak, nestled between jagged stones, was a pedestal with a floating crystal orb. The wand hovered inside it—sleek, silver, and pulsing with light.

She reached out, and the bracelet on her wrist glowed red-hot.

Just before her fingers touched the orb, a voice echoed in her head.

The one who touches the wand must carry the burden. Are you ready, Wu Mei?

She swallowed hard. Her world had changed so much. A few weeks ago, she was running from betrayal, hiding her heart. Now she stood at the threshold of magic and war.

"Yes," she whispered.

She touched the orb.

The world exploded in white light. Power surged through her arm, through her blood, flooding every nerve in her body. The bracelet fused with her skin, and her eyes flashed gold. Her wound healed instantly, the blood drying into dust.

Below, the battle had turned grim. Mo Qing was down, shielding Zhao Xi who was injured, and Qin Yangzhou knelt, struggling to rise after being thrown against a tree.

Dracon raised his hand again, dark magic swirling.

But just as he released the deadly blast, the air shimmered—and Wu Mei appeared in front of Qin Yangzhou, golden light spiraling around her.

She raised her hand.

The magic hit her palm and dissolved like mist.

Dracon's eyes widened. "Impossible! You... you absorbed it!"

Wu Mei stepped forward, her voice calm but powerful. "This wand doesn't belong to you, Dracon. It chose me."

Dracon shrieked in rage and charged. Wu Mei lifted her hand and sent a wave of golden energy that hurled him backward into a tree. The ground cracked beneath the force.

Panting, Dracon scrambled to his feet, snarling. "You don't know what you've done!"

Wu Mei didn't flinch. "You're right. But I know what I have to do."

She turned, eyes glowing, and looked at the wand. It vibrated in her hand. Then she closed her eyes.

"Let it end."

With a scream, she slammed the wand into the ground.

A pulse of light exploded outward. The earth trembled, the air turned white-hot—and the wand shattered into fragments, which dissolved into glittering dust.

Dracon screamed in agony as the magic ripped away from him. His body crumpled and vanished into a gust of black smoke.

The silence afterward was deafening.

Wu Mei collapsed to her knees, gasping.

Qin Yangzhou crawled to her, gathering her into his arms. "Mei... are you okay?"

She leaned against him, exhausted. "It's over... the wand is gone."

Mo Qing and Zhao Xi staggered over, their expressions a mix of awe and relief.

"You did it," Mo Qing said softly.

Wu Mei looked down at her now-normal wrist. "But at what cost? That kind of power... it's too much for anyone."

Qin Yangzhou held her close, his voice hoarse. "You made the right choice. I'm proud of you."

She looked into his eyes and smiled weakly. "I couldn't have done it without all of you."

In the sky above, the sun broke through the clouds.

But far in the distance, hidden from sight, the last shimmer of dark magic whispered into the wind... waiting.
