Chapter 43: Chapter 43: That Fast?
Seeing that Raven was convinced, Saiki Kusuo cut off his mental link with Charles and teleported to the small village where Kitty was staying.
According to the Kitty of 26 years in the future, Kitty's parents were originally teachers in the town. Because Kitty suddenly obtained the Time Stone and awakened her mutant abilities, her parents had to take her away and hide, to avoid being found.
And now, she hadn't left yet. It seemed she either hadn't awakened her powers or hadn't acquired the stone yet.
A series of footsteps interrupted Saiki Kusuo's thoughts. He looked up to see a young girl with a backpack walking towards him. Seemingly noticing his gaze, the girl stopped. There wasn't a trace of fear on her face at being looked at by a stranger; instead, she tilted her head and sized him up.
Kitty was dressed adorably by her parents, but contrasting with her clean clothes were her shoes, which were dirty and covered in mud.
This was because she'd been helping in the fields.
On her way home, Kitty had found a glowing stone. Out of curiosity, she'd picked it up.
As soon as she held the glowing stone, a surge of power seemed to be absorbed into her. She immediately felt a change in her body.
She was about to go home and ask her parents about it when she unexpectedly ran into Saiki Kusuo.
His pink hair and green glasses intrigued her.
Having read Kitty's mind, Saiki Kusuo knew she'd already obtained the stone. He walked up to her and asked bluntly, "Could you give me the stone in your pocket?"
He was trying his best to imitate Charles and Erik's tone and expression when they were trying to sweet-talk young girls.
It seemed to have some effect. Kitty instinctively touched the pocket where she'd put the Time Stone and asked, "Did you drop that gem, mister?"
Saiki Kusuo, without a hint of guilt, lied. "Yes, it's mine."
Unexpectedly, Kitty pouted. "You're lying! You look exactly like the chubby kid next door when he tries to trick me out of my lollipops."
Saiki Kusuo: "..."
(That's...a remarkably vivid comparison!)
Saiki Kusuo wasn't good at dealing with children. After failing to get the gem through polite conversation, he reverted to his usual deadpan expression.
"Alright, what do you want in exchange for the gem?"
The well-behaved child, taught by his parents never to bully the weak, patiently negotiated with her.
Kitty, in turn, wore an expression that said 'you're finally getting it', and held up three fingers. "Buy me three lollipops, and I'll give it to you."
Saiki Kusuo breathed a sigh of relief. He'd been worried she'd make some unreasonable demand, and he'd even been prepared to, against his better judgment, just snatch it.
But three lollipops...only that???
Saiki Kusuo reached into his empty pockets, his face turning ashen.
He suddenly realized that, in all the time he'd been in this world, he didn't have a single cent on him.
Noticing his change in expression, Kitty asked, "You don't even have enough money for three lollipops, do you?"
"I don't, but I can create three for you," Saiki Kusuo said.
Lollipops were cheap, after all, and it was easy to create them through equivalent exchange. Unexpectedly, Kitty pouted again.
"No! Who wants to eat lollipops you made? I only want the lollipops from that store over there!"
Kitty pointed to a small shop not far away.
"I'll only eat them if you buy them yourself. If you don't buy them, I won't give it to you."
Saiki Kusuo's face darkened. "Listen, kid, don't push it. Be grateful you're getting anything at all. Do you believe me if I say..."
He didn't finish his sentence. Kitty suddenly let out a sob and squatted down, crying hysterically.
"Waaah, big brother, I just want a lollipop! Mom gave us so much allowance, you can't keep it all for yourself!"
Saiki Kusuo: "..."
Kitty continued to wail, "I know you don't want to take care of me. You think I'm a burden, that I'm cramping your style with the girls. I promise, if you just give me one lollipop, I'll go straight home and I won't tell Mom you're using my allowance to pick up girls!"
Several adults happened to walk by. When they heard Kitty's words, their expressions changed, and they began to whisper and point.
Person A: "That brother is such a jerk. He can't even spare the money for a lollipop for his little sister."
Person B: "Didn't you hear the little girl? Her brother wants to use the money to pick up girls. He's crazy for women."
Person C: "Exactly! If I had such an adorable little sister, I wouldn't need any women. I'd give her anything she wanted, and I'd go home every day and play with her."
Person A: "..."
Person B: "..."
Brother, I think your words just now were a little dangerous.
Saiki Kusuo, unjustly taking the blame, felt a headache coming on from Kitty's crying.
Bratty kids were a pain to deal with, no matter where he was.
If Kitty weren't a girl, he might have threatened her viciously. If that didn't work, he might even have covered her mouth, dragged her into a corner, and taken the stone.
However, the reality was that he could only resign himself to his fate. He warned her not to run off and teleported back to Charles's house.
It seemed Erik was in the living room having a deep discussion with Hank, the silver-tongued Magneto leaving the honest Hank completely bewildered.
As for Charles and Raven, they seemed to be reminiscing in an upstairs room.
Wait, why would they go to a room to reminisce?
The confused Saiki Kusuo, ignoring Erik's knowing look, went to the room they were in.
He saw Raven very boldly trying to take off Charles's clothes, while Charles, looking terrified, clutched at his precarious virtue—no, his clothes.
Hearing the door handle turn, they both looked at the bewildered Saiki Kusuo, who had just walked in.
The atmosphere froze for a few seconds.
After a few seconds of silence, Saiki Kusuo said, "Excuse me," and properly closed the door.
Then he heard Charles's heart-rending cry: "Saiki, it's not what it looks like! Save me!"
Saiki Kusuo hesitated for a few seconds, but when he saw Raven glare at him menacingly, he immediately turned and left without looking back.
Seeming to protest Saiki Kusuo's abandonment, Charles roared in his mind.
"Save me, you bastard! Are you going to betray the meal you ate for free?!"
(You could easily deal with Raven with your powers! Hmph, men are all talk!)
(Also, I'm still a kid! Don't show me such shocking things!)
Saiki Kusuo went downstairs, where he was greeted by Erik's schadenfreude-filled teasing.
"You really have no sense of romance, Saiki. I made it very clear, and you still dared to go up there."
Saiki Kusuo gave him a cold glare and threatened, "Do you want to go up and take a look?"
Imagining the brutal scene of Raven snapping enemies' necks with ease, Erik obediently shut his mouth.
A few minutes later, Raven pushed Charles downstairs.
Seeming to still hold a grudge about Saiki Kusuo's abandonment, Charles's face was a bit sour.
The trio sitting on the sofa simultaneously glanced at the clock on the wall, thinking in unison:
That fast? Charles, you're weak!
Their expressions were so obvious that Charles immediately exploded.
