A luxurious car pulled up in front of a slaughterhouse not far from Totsuki Academy.
"This is the place. Since Totsuki has extremely high standards for ingredient quality, all the meat is sent here for immediate processing after slaughter. The meat from this small slaughterhouse is delivered to various Totsuki classrooms, research labs, private food storage facilities, and so on, all on the same day," Hisako reported respectfully to Erina. She then turned to Sui with a hesitant look. "Sui, are you really planning to work here for a while?"
"Yes," Sui replied with a nod. He had planned to use the Nichirin Kitchen Knife to handle food at the slaughterhouse, aiming to unlock its hidden properties.
"Actually, Sui, if you want to practice your butchering skills, I can arrange for someone to teach you. You don't have to come to such a filthy place," Erina said, frowning. The bloody environment was obviously distasteful to her.
"It's fine," Sui said. He wasn't really looking to learn butchering techniques; he simply needed to process large livestock.
"Very well. I'll come with you and take a look," Erina said, reluctantly agreeing.
"Huh? Erina-sama, you can't go to a place like this! It would be beneath your status!" Hisako exclaimed in shock, quickly attempting to dissuade her.
"Yeah, Erina, you don't need to come with me. I won't be working here for more than a few days," Sui added.
Erina hesitated for a moment. Hisako then chimed in, "Besides, Erina-sama, you have a judging event coming up soon. It would be improper for you to appear covered in blood."
"Alright," Erina nodded. Then, she looked at Sui and said, "Sui, work hard. I'll come check on you from time to time."
"Got it," Sui said with a smile. He then followed a Totsuki staff member into the slaughterhouse.
As he walked in, the overwhelming stench of livestock hit him. Pigs were being herded off trucks, squealing loudly as they were led to the slaughter.
"You're the young man here for work today?" A middle-aged man appeared, with a towel tied around his head and stubble on his chin. He had a sturdy build and slapped Sui on the shoulder as he spoke.
"Yes, I'm here to work," Sui confirmed. Hisako had already made arrangements, informing the slaughterhouse that a Totsuki student would be coming to assist.
"You're pretty scrawny," the man remarked, eyeing Sui's slender frame. He scratched his chin thoughtfully, then sighed. "This is a tough, physical job."
After a moment, the man seemed to reconsider and said, "But it's fine. I'll find some lighter tasks for you."
He likely assumed Sui was an ordinary student, working part-time to pay his way through school. While most Totsuki students came from wealthy backgrounds, there were exceptions—students like former first seat Kojiro Shinomiya, who came from a lower-middle-class family and pursued cooking so his mother could enjoy delicious meals.
"Thank you," Sui said, smiling. He appreciated the man's kindness.
"Haha, no worries!" the man chuckled heartily. "It must have taken a lot of effort to get into Totsuki. Keep up the good work, kid. You can call me Uncle Takeda."
Sui followed Uncle Takeda into the slaughterhouse. Inside, only a dozen or so workers were present, busy with the initial processing of slaughtered and bled livestock.
"Are you ready to start?" Uncle Takeda asked.
"Of course," Sui answered, then went to the locker room to change into work clothes.
"Huh? You brought your own tools? We have specialized equipment here, you know," Uncle Takeda said, noticing the large Nichirin strapped to Sui's back.
"Oh, this is the knife I usually use at school," Sui explained.
"Alright," Takeda nodded, though a bit surprised.
"Hey, I heard you're a student at Totsuki. Is that true?" A short, dark-skinned boy approached Sui with a look of admiration.
"Yeah, why do you ask?" Sui replied, puzzled by the boy's excitement.
"My dream is to get into Totsuki next year!" the boy said eagerly.
"Really? Then you should work hard," Sui encouraged him with a smile.
The workers around them laughed. "Haha, Atong, you should give it up. There's no way you'll make it into Totsuki!" one of them teased.
The boy, Atong, scratched his head in embarrassment but kept his enthusiasm intact. He was very chatty and continued pestering Sui with questions about life at Totsuki.
Through their conversation, Sui learned that Atong was 14 years old and still in junior high. His parents had passed away, so he worked at the slaughterhouse to support himself. Despite the teasing, it was clear that the workers cared about him deeply.
"I gotta ask—since you go to Totsuki, have you ever met the God's Tongue, Erina-sama?" Atong asked with wide-eyed anticipation.
"Uh, yeah, I've seen her. Why?" Sui asked, trying not to laugh. Not only had he met Erina, but she was also destined to become his wife.
"Really?! What's she like? Is she as beautiful and amazing as everyone says?" Atong's excitement grew.
Seeing his reaction, Sui wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry. 'So he's a fan of the tsundere?'
"Yeah, she's very beautiful," Sui said, nodding.
"Erina-sama is my idol! I want to be a chef just like her someday. I even follow her on X!" Atong said proudly, pulling out his phone to show Sui.
'Huh? She has X?' Sui thought, a bit surprised. He glanced at the screen and saw that it was indeed Erina's official account. She had millions of followers, and each post had tens of thousands of comments, all praising her beauty and skills.
Sui was speechless. 'So it turns out my future wife is a national idol!'
